And I do see the opinion of the liberals who may not like her for the war on terror however it is a situation where no real truth stands out. Condi should lead the rebirth of a new Republican party as it adopts itself to the challenges and opportunities of this century. Like Obama she belongs to the future. Many may not fully agree with her present Israel policy which would take away more land from this mini-state and thus compromise its security, but she stands out among young Republicans. She is a lady of deep substance and strong action. Her integrity is solid. Her service is impeccable.

That's my prediction based on a 2008 poll of New York State voters which predicted a 21% swing to a McCain-Rice ticket against either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton compared to Bush-Cheney in 2004.
That Senator Clinton's own home state would have deserted her to vote for VP Rice just shows that Condi Rice on the ticket matters.

riceforpresident - Of course under UK rule, the monarchy, the state and some capitalists, did deal in slaves and cities like Liverpool got rich over the trade.
However, the slaves did not come here much and so therefore slavery was not a thing most decent British folks had to dirty their hands with, so I suppose we didn't talk about it either and never got into the habit of saying "X has owned Y".

I think Americans should concentrate on learning civilised English first - without using phrases such as X "OWNED" Y.

Baldgol4, One of the major reasons was that McCain is trying to run from comparisons to Bush, so nominating his secy of state as his running mate would be counterproductive to that. It is unfortunate that he did not pick, though. I will agree with that.

Secretary Rice is an enormously impressive person. And I think her point regarding biased beliefs against those in the middle east is right on the money.
We tried to make similar arguments regarding the Black community in the 50's and 60's, and now we are trying to use those excuses today regarding the Iraqis and others in the Middle East. I guess we didn't learn as much from the Civil Rights era as we thought we did.
