I have tied a few with size 12 dry fly hooks. do you think this is too big?

@aspca226 Nah mate, I've got friends that even fish them up to size 8 when the fish are going nuts for big dries

@aspca226 size 12 is perfect. if you're fishing tiny brooks then you could go smaller - If if it's big, fast rivers then bigger is better (you need to see the fly). Essentially it comes down to where you use it and personal preference.
