all i have to say it's that there's a difference on making games "easier" and making games TOO easy and that's what games now days are some still are hard but there are others that are just too easy and their idea of higher difficulties is just making the enemies take more hits >.> that's not making them harder <.<
@RadiantJetfire Those were not modded names. its just a picture of the employee names in pregame lobby and the audio of the talking overlapped the pic
i think what kills gaming these days is the reliance on outside gaming engines ie unreal engine, and pretty pictures. i still think control and playability is way better than the pretty ictures on screen. madden of today is way better graphically but tecmo bowl and the earlier maddens still way more fun to play
i thought this was a great experiment. i grew up playing atari and old school arcade games, and the commodore 64. games and systems without the processing power, but al the heart and fun.
lol@the leisure suit larry comment. i must have all those age verification questions memorized from doing that so many times as a youngster on my dads apple II.
Nobody is a gamer unless they know about the history of video games itself. Nobody is a gamer unless they can appreciate the qualities and innovations that the games of the past have to offer
games these days are nothing compared to the old cause the older one are way harder for instance halo you can beat in roughly 7 or 8 hours tmnt will take a good 15 hours if your good and same with most nes plus there is scores to beat and everything ealse
That's why i'm saying. Games have evolved with the audience and nobody can be a true gamer unless they get to the roots of the games that are out today. The huge difference between then and now is the style of games. Most NES games are based on pattern recognition, reflex, hand/finger coordination, timing, etc. Alot of games today make things easy like saving, etc. It's interesting to analyze how point A (then) got to point B (today)
Saving? If you ask me the difficulty killers of games of was checkpoints on every corner and more precisely, no more lives, its all continue from checkpoint now.
Have you spent hours upon hours playing old NES games? SNES games? arcade fighters? I don't think so. Most adults can pwn YOU! Go back to training shrimp
Sweet! You got my respect for that dude. More kids need to play classics and understand. Sorry for the misunderstanding. You know...most kids arent like that
And my first comment referred to history. I know that I'll get my ass beat by a 30 year old gamer. I just love old games, and I probably know more about the history of video games then some adult gamers that have been playing since Pong.
Nice series and experiment. I wonder what other kids would think if they went through this as well. While we grew up on this stuff, they didn't, so it is nice to hear their perspective. You did a respectable job with it and while he may have sounded harsh on some things, he showed respect on others. Keep in mind guys that he is only 11, and his appreciation for this may change over time once he matures more. Great job with the video and followup on comments. :)
This kid likes battle toads and punch out b/c the level gets harder and harder, but don't like contra b/c it's hard. WTF!! I want to take that d-pad and slap him in the face with it.
It would be great if you could get a kid to play some old Mario and Zelda games. I would like to see how they think those would compare to the modern games like Galaxy and TP.
He didnt sound to excited about the Xbox with the nintendo emulator. I would be freaking out if I were him I would be like your the greatest uncle ever and thanks and stuff like that.
Games back then were harder because of the they didn't have the current "hold your hand" attitude. In the old days you had the manual to tell you what to do and that's it. It was all trial and error.
Nowadays you have the developers holding your hand at everything that could kill you. At every new obstacle you get an explanation what it is and what to do, when you learn a new move the game explains exactly how to do it. At the start of the game you have to look at or play a tutorial level.
I think he felt like you were preaching to him toward the end and that you were sort of making him respect older games when he really didn't.
I know if I was his age, I would just be like: Okay well its 2009, 360 is here now, so I see no reason to play this old crap. We aren't living in the stone age.
I think its hard for him to know a good game too, because his earlier games weren't all that great.
Give him a break man. He's only 11 years old and for probably never having taken a public speaking class he did really well. It's easy to sit back and criticize someone else doing an impromptu interview, but how do you think you would do responding to questions like those off-the-cuff?
No kidding. He didn't get far enough in Battletoads to even begin to understand how hard that game is. I could beat Contra without the code pretty easily, I never even came close to beating battletoads.
wtf is the hillybilly clip

This was a nice series to see :) It's true, most kids really aren't as open-minded as Dylan is to try out games from previous generations.
And to a certain extent, you really can't expect them to when we now have almost photo-realistic graphics and then dump them into the 8-bit era.

Yes I've spent hours playing Sonic 3, SMB3, Zelda 1, Contra, Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Galaxian, Galaga, Space Invaders, etc....
I love Super Mario World. A Link to the Past ftw, Street Fighter II is fucking awesome.
F-Zero is cool! Mortal Kombat is awesome!
Just because I'm a fucking kid doesn't mean I haven't played classics dude.
