I am not a scientologist nor do I have any future plans of becoming one. But the stories believed by scientologists, do have cinematic potential. In my opinion.
The church of Scientology requires you to make a pact to them. When the pact is performed you have a certain bond with this religon. When you have accepted xenu as your god in reality you have sold your soul to satan and damned yourself to eternal suffering. Of course being rich and famous here on earth seems cool but once you have died, all the money in the world cannot save you from the fire pit that is hell. And once you die the decision is made, there is no going back.

How does anyone fall for this shit? Because this is not revealed until the person is already well and truly snared into the organisation. Of course if this were told as part of the intial recruiting drive most people would be going "ummm what the fluck" but that's not how it actually works.
Generally speaking the new recruit just starts out doing a few basic courses in stuff like how to communicate better. And then Scientology keeps telling them that they need to do more and more courses, that if they just do this next course their life will be even better. And a lot of the early courses do work and do have a benefit for the person so they get sucked into it more and more. And of course each level or course costs more and more money.
By the time they reach OT 3 (the "Xenu" level) they are either so brainwashed they actually believe it or they figure it for the bullshit it is but are so ashamed at being duped out of a shiteload of money, personal time and possibly family or friends as well that they stay in Scientology out of a sense of shame and not really knowing where else to turn for help.
From what i've seen of the early courses- these are "softening up" brainwashing techniques. How staring at someone for 2 hours can be called "communication" is nuts- it's a sure way to induce a hypnotic trance.
The tedious word drills etc will induce some trance states, too. If you are told to repeat a tedious task over and over- your ability to think is reduced and you get used to following orders without question.
