  • Lol at the epic news music at the end

  • 8 Record Labels Disliked This....

  • Young Guru knows about Uniform commercial code!!!

  • One thing that irritates me. Is the guy in the beginning saying he wants to be by his "people" like really? It's 2012, let's get off this blacks stay with blacks and whites stay with whites. Just be around ppl who u wanna be around.

  • What is the first to do if you go independent , its way harder to get big indepently rapping .

  • Brilliantly said... Now iv heard that, back to the studio!

  • deutschland uber alles !!

  • real isht!! Check out my tracks everyone. They're "my" work from top to bottom. No one helped me except videos like this

  • this is my church ..

  • WOW JAY-Z REALLY HAS AN INTELLIGENT BODY OF PEOPLE AROUND HIM THAT'S PART AND PARCEL OF HIS SUCCESS!

  • real talk!

  • He is talking true! Just watched 3 minutes and I know what he is talking about. I don't want to sign a record contract when I can pay around 10$ and the rest of the money will be mine. cdbaby(dot)com is an example.

  • You right! He did not sign the 360 deal they wanted him too. That was mostly what his fight was about.

  • Independent is the way

  • sad how Lupe went ahead and signed the 360 deal

  • @JRobdakid2 he did not sign a 360 deal he wont sign it yet wouldnt his new album be like 3x platinum by now if he did sign the 360

  • niggas aint fuckin round

  • ya ya he is so right, what that fuck do labels do after all, i remember the one artist that fought and got his freedom GEORGE MICHAEL, remember from SONY LABEL

  • ppl don't support the real artist

  • that's why pac and biggie died think about it. Pac was gonna start his own movement and what happen?

  • Illuminati want my soul and my body

  • Real Spit. Listen Please!

  • VERY NECESSARY VID ON MUSIC BIZ EDUCATION! BRILLIANT!

  • I love how the epic music drops when he puts the cherry on the top. Word ^ ... yo. To support another progressive artist Check REVERBNATION // ARTIST NAME :: KILLATACTICS

  • this is probably the truest thing I've seen about the music business broken down in understandable terms. I love this. We NEED this type of knowledge being dropped.

  • drop good knowledge

  • The rap game gone be like the drug game in a minute.. Niggas gone be moving city to city trying to take over.. independently.. which is basically whats going on right now..

  • More knowledge more power. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

  • cierramay

its actually pretty easy. even if it is expensive. now u have a lot of people wanting to make music(idol-the voice) build a studio and charge. everyones been doin it in cali

  • Young Guru Always Kicking Knowledge, That Kind Of Talk Can Only Come From Educated Niggas, Nuff Respect.

  • yea I knew this stuff for years but it nice to hear an intelligent black men tell the world

  • Now this is what I call a great video! Extremely informative.

  • my question is...how do you be independent? how do you sell your own cd's...how do you own your master, like he said....

  • @Cierramay Are you that oblivious? Build your own studio, press up and sell your CD's, keep all the money and own masters. Got it?

  • @giftedindividuals It just seems too hard to do everything on your own without a good marketing/PR behind you and an agent to book you....but i like what you're saying.

  • @Cierramay The problem in this obviously lies in "how do I do all this"? If you have zero experience, it will be hard initially. Find info about local studios, find out if they offer engineering services, talk to the people around you and see if they're "on board" with what you're about to do. But most importantly, you have to be about it 10000% before you can try to achieve all that. Have in mind that recording and mixing 6-7 songs can cost you at least 3000 USD, this aint a game. (cont. pt 3)

  • @Cierramay But at the same time that's the cost (and the very definition) of being INDEPENDENT. You really have to be your own master. Save money, figure out exactly how your music will be unique, find your own lane and make sure you have a team around you that really believe in you. Just look at Wiz khalifa, Drake, or The Weeknd. You can get more info regarding this if you watch Bun B's interview with allhiphop (here on youtube), where he talks about the independent game. Good luck my friend.

  • @Cierramay excellent question. What you have to do initially is to record your music on your own. That means getting hold of a studio, an engineer, possibly a producer (there are a lot of instrumental free beats online, you can start with that), and obviously quality lyrics and songs. But the most important aspect is having a TEAM. Having people around you that are "bout it" just as much as you are. Calling every day for show scheduling, going to meetings, promoting you. (cont on part 2.)

  • Keep Doin' You're Thing - GURU - and I still won't let you block my shot

    - Big Wes

    p.s. I got married...

  • @Lifeforce013 Say what??? LMAO!!! So, if someone doesn't agree with your Theology/ideology then they are a slave. Well, what makes you not a slave?

  • @TheDrFeelShow lmfao

  • This is pretty deep! I guess it's not worth all the glamour

  • @LifeForce013 Devil? Sorry dude the whole industy is about owning the artit. An actual devil is not what this is about. Howver Jay is indeed a good biz man.

  • @AndreRedd1Empire first stop using the race card all people are equal maybe not where you live things may seen that way because how you are treated but we are second yes they do there are bad apple in the industry but still they care if they did not they would not invest plus it a business and the goal is to make money just at your job but I feel like we as people are punishing them for working hard and invest in thing we love

  • they dirty maaaaaan so dirty.......guru and jay-z is not to be fuk with they have they own power

  • Speaking the REAL!!!

    -G

  • I LOVE what he's saying; I left "rap" back in 1999, to start a business; my plan then, was to make enough money to Buy my OWN Equipment, so I could put out my OWN Music; I got tired of working with Producers, who were always 'shady' - or 'too busy' - or something else.... I've sat back and Watched things Change; WHEN I Drop an album ... It'll be 100% Internet; Too many ways to earn money without Signing with a Company, that WILL Pimp you for their benefit

  • Bottom line..our people don't engage in economics/business law or finance at its scientific level. If we did Jay Z, Puffy and all the other "moguls" would have a solid global distribution channel..but they don't.

  • true speak

  • Young guru has set his own protocol now: always drop gems of knowledge and always stay with a fresh shapeup. Ive never seen not do either hahaha

  • one of the best discussions I needed to hear

  • THE CONTRACTS GOT WORST...

  • A Slave Owning Bank. Preach brother preach! I'm a fan of Young Guru the musical humanitarian now as well as the producer. That's how u do it. Now I'll follow u on twitter/fb and give full support 4 your art. Ty 4 the knowledge.

  • I hate how he looks at things like there out to get you when they care about the music as much as you do but they have to make sure they get a return on their money and can pay every one but people hate the label then don't buy but illegally download so that why they want a 360

  • @foreverGraceby Do you really think Them corporate ass white folk up in these Hedge Fund Buildings REALLY Give a damn about REAL HIP HOP? Not that radio shit THAT FROM THE SOUL HIP HOP AKA BLACK MUSIC

    Answer that question

  • The thing I do not like is when artist do not have the money a record label does so when you go to pick up a mic and you see 100$ mic and a 5000$ what mic are you going to get you have a budget label know what best to buy because it their job to know so your not going to make as good music

  • phuck corporate record pigs...they make slaves outta artists ..I wouldn't do no seven albums for NOBODY!LOL

  • Straight truth :)

  • Dude is telling it!!!! Pharoah Monche did a DEEP freestyle about them 360 deals at a KRS-ONE/Buckshot album release show. Unfortunately, cats wasn't hearin' him. Young Guru is saying what Ray Charles, Chuck D and Prince have said for years: own your masters or the master owns you.

  • this is some good stuff...i just registered today for a music seminar in ny with music exec from everywhere...this is giving me the ammo i need to deal with these people...smart man

  • THe people are so call jewish Zionist/nazis. down partners with the vatican.

  • Guru is a powerful man in the game. When Jay-Z is shouting your name on so many records you know you made it. This is great advice.

  • Good stuff.

  • haha this is what beenie needs to listen to.

  • the bad part about this moment in time is that dude had the mic all in his mouth n shit and I didn't see no other mic but the one he had. So I feel for the next guy who have to speak.

But ultimately I'm totally down with what Guru was saying and support that shit 100

  • Intelligent dude. Great advice!!!!

  • "IM NOT SIGNED AND AN'T THAT A BITCH"!!! At least thats what i thought before i watched this video. Great info...LOOK OUT FOR INSANE MUSIC PRODUCER D'OCHO, and much love to all producers and if some one is ever hating that is a sign that you are doing somthing right!

  • Smart man

  • Lowkey, a UK rapper, is staying totally independent and hes becoming real successful. hes got 90,000 followers on facebook. so, dont be a sell out! if you got a real and honest message - these record labels dont want that! the corporate music, news and shows -- they all want to DUMB DOWN the masses. dont get tricked.

  • Dam, this gives me chills. I've been pretty saying this shit for the last decade!

Pretty much when Biggie and PAC Died the game started fading away!

  • thats a trur vid. many rappers and people like me talents. dont get to be show. noo support wat so ever

  • @LindsyKirby44 throw me some of your ass ; )

  • truth

  • this blesses me

  • SOME OF THE BEST AND REAL SHYT IV EVER HEARD

  • Thank you. There's a new movement in hip hop. They shoulda never educated us because as minorities have done forever, we figured out the best of a bad situation. Were too smart to keep us down anymore. We see through the bullshit, we hear all the bubblegum rap, and we tired of it. Now we got the geniuses behind the scenes leading movements. Makes me wanna pick up the pen and just unload. Thank you Guru, Lupe, Nas, Gemini. Ive always said honesty is so rare its gonna become a precious commodity.

  • @jdeanne805 i agree with you, ive hated rap for the last 10 years, but im starting to see a dramatic improvement in the originality of new and modern hip hop and im liking it.

  • @ezmo776 as a composer I thankyou for keeping your eyes and ears open

  • Amen brother!

  • EVERYONE TAKE NOTICE OF THIS VIDEO: The information presented here by Young Guru is solid gold information. It's value far surpasses that of any record deal.

  • I still dont se why people say we should fear the illuminati. of course the the people behind the scenes supposedly but I dont fear them, I fear people that do bad things, but not the illuminaati

  • @bozav the members of the illuminati DO do bad things. However, we still should NOT fear them. We need to get to know em....know what they're about ...but fear them? No. Fear no man.

  • @Classyandsuperb Exactly, to me It dosen't matter now, I don't fear rthem and never will as a matter of fact I thinki there actually quite annoying :P

  • @Classyandsuperb: I agree...

  • 4.58

  • i know this is random but

i love how the guy holds his mic. :)

  • to be fair they know most goyim don't understand semiotics. subtle? why bother :-)

  • 0ct 15th?! nice top mate-Hageloperationspapierklammer?

  • Preach the truth Guru; these artist sign 360 deal and they don't see the slavery behind it. I guess there are more sheep in the world than wolfs...

  • @monacograham wolves.

  • thank you

  • @troofdotcom And that my dude is correct. And incorrect at the same time. I believe there are bigger players on the map. But for Western Civilized countries where they have the most invested interest their movements are more visible to us so it seems like their the biggest ones out there. I'm not saying their not to be recogned wit. They very much are. The way the world is leaning to wards global banks (Rothschild's anyone) its clear as day that Guru talkin real talk. Bless up homey

  • This Video Is Fucking Awesome

  • TROOFDOTCOM!!!

  • Great vid. But iluminati are not the top dogs, the rabit hole goes deeper.

  • There are alot of great artist out here for real . they do not have the capital to go it alone. and they get barley any support from black media or black music fans, If you have no capital you need a record company or production company to back you.

  • I'm sharing this video!!!

  • I like the comments on this page!!!Productive,Relevant and Encouraging!!!Nice work!

  • Can't say this is new news! It's mostly old news too me!But I do except the food because I didn't know the 360!That's news to me !Thank you I learned something today!

  • He did a great job breaking down the music biz, I disagree with his statement about people not supporting the conscious music though, Positive music isn't marketed the same way negative music is, and marketing is everything.

  • I like the fact, that he's wearing a german soccer jacket! :-)

  • After working with mayor labels for a couple of years myself, I can say, he is absolutely right!

The only question I would ask him is how to get your "product" promoted worldwide, if it's not done by a record label?

You can have the nicest homepage, myspace account, ... if it's not promoted in a big way (and that means investing lots of money), how do you get your product out there? How do you stick out of the masses on the internet?

  • Check my page out!!! I need the support of the real Hip Hop fans out there!!! the things this man is talking bout is real truth. Lets lift the independent artist up past the mainstream!!!

  • is that rza in the beginning?

  • The "business" (that we ALL worship) is the business of the devil. We're ALL "enslaved".

  • This is a smart dude. I'm not going to bastardize what he said by putting in my own opinion, he said it all perfectly, and he's clearly a smart man.

  • So from what Young Guru is saying Madonna, U2, and Shakira are all slaves for signing 360 deals?

  • @RichieRich623 BASICALLY

  • @RichieRich623 Nope....the top 5% of elite artists make money of tours....Young Guru is speaking to a lower tier genre that don't get to see the mega-tours the likes of Madonna or Beyonce'. You're talking about some the highest grossing artist in the business. He's referring to grassroot artist that have real messages and under-appreciated talent that major labels take advantage of daily. TLC, New Edition, Vanilla Ice all got jerked by labels despite major success....

  • wtf is he talking about? dont sign the contract if you dont understand it. record labels just offer you something. if you dont want to accept it, you dont have to.

  • and I bet major labels are gonna still fuck with him!!

    devils have no shame!

  • WOW. Deep. I've never been hot on getting signed, I have trust issues LOOL too many people in life with hidden agendas, and when it comes to record labels, management tryna take creative control and turn you into a product, like say you were created on an assembly line! Are you mad, I'll be dammed if I let anyone suppress my creativity or tell me who to be. This video just gave me even more reason to do my own thing! =)

  • God Bless man, God Bless. I have been a indie recording studio, getting people quality tracks, high end masters, and not dealing with there music, as far as distribution, or any of that. I see a artist, and want to see them get what they deserve! good teaching, wisdom

  • The time has come for the healing of the black male.

  • Real shit. I'm staying Independent.

  • This is why I love Young Guru, he tells it like it is!!

  • you see the reckid company is like a slave masta, and you da slave, the music is like da cotton day make you pick it. dont be a slave

  • CORPORATE SLAVERY! Don't make deals with devils!

  • @neteraset9 Please google Radiohead's Thom Yorke says major music labels are a 'sinking ship' and read the article. Educate , empower and protect yourselves-Peace! :)

  • haha that foo went in lol

  • THAT'S REAL SHIT RIGHT THERE. GLAD I SAW THIS VIDEO.

  • Great info! Real & True!

  • I put that I didn't like it because I LOVED IT. Thanx for the real. This man is obviously NOT distracted. He is in a game and he knows the rules of the game. We tend to just turn on a light switch to see in the dark but we gotta start UNDERSTANDING what actually generates that energy source. Alot times we don't give it a second thought. SOMEONE IS DOING A GOOD JOB OF DUMBING US DOWN. Everything can be broken down into a science. Thank you for that.

  • Comment removed

  • I agree guys if you are trying to sell your music do it your own self. Never step inside of these corporation's doors.

  • Listen up. If you are truly talented, you WILL get a legit salary, without any non-sense with any record labels.

  • This has got to be the best lesson in the game today...thats it!!!! If you need more then that.. Quit

  • In association with what this cat is saying.... if you make music, you should be spreading this video to anyone who will listen, or else you might as well ignore the message all together.

That being said.... allow me to plug my own music... if you like acoustic music go listen to "Bad Acid and Boogie"!!

  • "please make me a slave" - great comment!

  • great info for artis

  • This is some REAL shit

  • Comment removed

  • love the germany jacket

  • The realest shit every said about the game right now!

  • Great video

  • wow wow wow

respect just grew for Young Guru

    The Almighty's Blessings

  • Old news (applicable to ALL musics) clearly articulated. Thanks for posting.

  • He is dropping knowledge.

  • NO Limit Cash Money the whole Texas the south been doing independent forever. i did the math the other day myself small 10 x 10000 = 100k a very small amount of records sold can definitely result in significant paper 1000people at a show for 20 or 30 a pop so and so forth. I no longer really support hiphop due to its over all negative impact on the people but its still cream that can be made in that industry. "even if the prison lock me IM gone press 100000 and sell each and every copy" - Z Ro

  • @illholla84 West coast hip hop artist BEEN knowing all of this. We've been on the indy rap shit since the early 90's. That's EXACTLY why we have rappers like C-Bo and E-40 who arn't as known as guys like Beanie Sigel or Cam'ron but have sold more units and have made more money off of the rap game than both of them.

  • Thank you, Guru. For letting these dumb asses know, that there is know damn illuminati.. I been saying this for years.

  • i love this :) young G i totaly agree wif wat u say <3 amen bro

  • Amen, PREACH that good word

  • already :-)

  • Real talk this is y i love the internet, it gives every1 a chance to hear wonderful and much needed information like this! I just hope people r really paying attention to wat he's talking about. I love it........Thanks guys

  • That's one of the reason's I left a major and started my own!!! I saw the writing on the wall back in the early 2000's!!!

  • @jhman07 sorry i had to quote you cause you really dropped it down on that one

  • Major Label my FOOT!

  • @MadameTrechell....people keep asking why she won't sign....well there you go....

  • This dude aint just talking about Hip Hop, this is life in general. The corporate analogy goes across the board of life...

  • People wanna always try to "love" the business that they make their money in!

With all things, u can love it, but, "when the money u make from whatever u love buys u a bigger house, ur love for it will turn into business!

Not all folks can get rich off of a pie "they created at home", and then just continue making pies for free with the same quality!

I wonder if the guy who owns the "bentley car corp.", "loves" rick ross and all those who spend with him?

or just the money they bring????

  • @ominousred True!

  • dunno, he dumbed down the illuminati, nas was throwning up Masonic signs back in 1994. And Lupe? He's down too, I have proof. maybe Guru doesn't know enough yet but means well.

  • @BeachFizzle

He's take on the Illuminati is sort of downplaying what someone (corporate or individual) would do to keep a position of power. Even if its just a bunch of families who have control of an industry, they definitely will not let you reap rewards in an area where they have a stranglehold unless you are on board.

  • Props to Young Guru for layin down the problem of corporate personhood!

Get involved and sign the motion to end this corrupted law!

    head to ----> movetoamend(dot)org/motion-amend

  • I needed this helps me come into this game from another angle still need some help so ya check me out!

  • Finally, a magazine that features an artist's/engineer's long earned understanding of the mechanics of artistic slavery/prostitution. What young guru expresses is the knowledge that seasoned artist have always understood ever since art and commerce mixed. Bottom line though is that, promotion, production and distribution was the only reason for labels, young artist must understand that they can now do all that themselves, all they need is enough energy and money to buy their promotion. thanx

  • This Helped Me Out. Much Appreciated.

  • General Moe- HandSteady Visuals!!!

  • so illuminati real huh ?

  • @Warkid1992 its not what you think it is,,,this is jayz's top guy exposing the snakes in the game...and yes even them

  • Thanks for recognizing us,thanks for not selling out, thanks for dropping jewels
