@AznWaterGun : I sort of doubt it. You have no idea what part of the main board shorted out when you dropped it in the potty (or squirted it with your AznWaterGun). For $25 it might be worth a try though.
As a courtesy I will answer this but you need to do more research on your own to verify this information. Both screens look very similar but supply sites seem to indicate specific replacements for specific generations. To be safe, only buy what is specifically mentioned in the ad; G3 or G2..
can i replace an ipod touch 3rd generation 8 GB lcd screen with a 3rd generation ipod touch lcd screen or do i need a 2nd generation lcd screen for that?
@MrElnaco13 Apparently no one knows the answer to this or cares to answer it, sorry but this is really not an Apple repair site! You must have an old 3G lcd kicking around and want to repair your 2G. Try it and see but I’d bet you an apple that it won’t. I know for sure the digitizers have different connectors and I bet the lcd screen resolutions are different between generations so the lcd connectors will be different too. Report back your findings. DB
@MrElnaco13 Now I have some more info: Looks like the 8GB G3 Touch is actually a G2 machine and so needs a G2 digitizer. The 32GB and 64GB G3s need G3 digitizers being true G3 mainboards. I am going by this site info at ifixit dot com.
You need to disassemble and compare the connectors to those on the net.
@jerkidiot --- I bet you’re sunk (along with your iTouch). You would need to do a complete disassembly, clean and dry all the circuit boards and connectors and re-assemble to test it. If you can hear music but the screen is dead, I would try replacing the LCD ($25) before posting it on eBay for parts.
My iPod has like a little line across the screen. My Dad says it's physically broken and I don't blame him because my Mum throw it against our wooden counter. Any suggestions?
@angelxlotus: Sorry, you can’t choose the family you are born into. But I think one of the data lines is broken on your LCD. If there is no case damage you might be able to get away with a warrantee repair from Apple. I suppose you could cross your fingers and try a “restore” after a backup.
The plastic tools are available usually with the screen, read the discription of the item where you buy it. I'm sure you can buy them seperately too. Search for "ipod tools"
Any other tools I used in these videos were just out of my toolbox.
if my screen is all white like its fractured i will need a new lcd screen right? anyone know how much they are or how much it would be for the apple store to get it fixed?
please help me i only got a ipod touch 32gb a week ago and someone knocked iti out of my hands
Your screen is cracked. The lcd screens are available on-line or search eBay. They are cheap, like $30. Apple Store is not an option as they charge a couple hundred to do the same thing I did in this repair. However, if you are not super handy, this repair is not easy and you might as well buy a new pod and try to re-sell your old one. Sorry to hear about your loss.
i have a problem with my touchscreen. i have a waterdamage and replaced the touchscreen but it doesnt work. i dont know whats going on there could you give me a tip?
Humm. Water damage. I'd say you have a deeper problem than just the touch screen. Did the water damage happen and then the touch screen stop working? If so, your water damage might have shorted the circuitry that works the touchscreen and a new screen will not help (as you discribe). The only other suggestion I have for you would be to dismantle the entire unit down to the main board and clean all the contacts with 91% alcohol.
Yeah, I didn't record that fiasco. There are many other videos available that show that process. Just know that you will ruin the bezel. I used the spludgers and a guitar pick and a lot of time. It's a mess. Wish Apple used tiny screws.
if your ipod touch 3g is water damaged, can replacing the screen work?
