If you read lost as a book, you wouldn't imagine Sawyer as Matthew fox. Casting is about reading the script like a book, then trying to find somebody who matches the mental image and attitude of the character.
I never saw them plan anything without involving overreacted emotions.
They fight all the time. The defense is low... They tactical thinking is horrible.. they are just emotion packed humans lost on island... that's how i see LOST show :|

Most of the Lost characters pisses me off .. kind of... except Garcia. Everyone was emotionally psychotic. Ask's a question - Goes in rage. Find allie in trouble - goes in rage. Find something new - Goes in rage... in my eyes LOST = EMOTION > REASON

Also Fox was reading the orginal Sawyer script. Sawyer was changed whenever Josh Holloway read for it. They changed him from a big city con man to a Southern Con-man.
I think people just think that because their characters are already distinguished, but if you haven't ever seen Lost or saw this before you saw Lost, I think it'd be easy to see. I think Fox is a good actor.
@Jackfan08 I agree. Matthew Fox's version of Sawyer is actually kind of intimidating....almost psychotic, which would have been an interesting version. With Josh Holloway's version, you can tell from the beginning that he could have a sense of humor despite his bitter character. I don't see Matthew Fox's version of Sawyer cracking up jokes or making-up insulting nicknames, just plain villain!
