There's no question Mario was the best dancer. That's why I don't like seeing trained dancers like Mario on the show. It's almost unfair. What captured America's heart with Emmitt Smith was the transformation. Taking a football player and turning him into a Ball Room dancer. That's what the show is supposed to be about.
I so agree with you. Every year when DWTS starts my mother and I talk about how Mario should have won the contest. As a matter of fact, I quit watching DWTS for the most part after this and some other things, namely popularity of the pro dancers/stars affecting the voting. I catch it every now and then but I don't watch it regularly.

Thing is Mario not winning, didnt matter. His career got a HUGE resurgence. He had nothing before, now he hosts Extra, by himself and he hosts Americas Best Dance Crew, and does Broadway and TV here and there. So somewhat if he came in second place? he needed this show, and he got the most out of it, from NOT winning then anyone I ever seen.
Mario is a better dancer than Emmitt Smith. He was much more technically sound than Emmitt. And he should. He's a professionally trained dancer. Smith was out of his element. But Emmitt had more fun, and it showed in their dance. Emmitt smiled genuinely and often during his performances. It won over the crowd and the voters.
yeah, but they keep advertising dwts as a dance competition, not a popularity contest. for people who actually pay to see ballet or ballroom dancing, it's absurd to have a worse dancer win over a much better one - even if we know that the most who watch dwts don't know a thing about ballroom dancing. here's an analogy: wouldn't it be absurd to have patrick swayze win over mikhail baryshnikov in a ballet version of dwts? btw, i don't care how much more experience baryshnikov had over swayze.
You miss the point of the show completely. The object is to take a celebrity that doesn't dance professionally, and watch them evolve into a dancer. It's not a dance competition for trained dancers. If that was the case, Mario should be competing against Karina and the other pros. And as good as he is, he would surely lose to them. That's why Swayze should NOT be on the show. He's a trained dancer. Emmitt Smith was a football player. It was interesting to see him progress.
Emmitt Smith, the football player, embodied the true essence of the show. Take a celebrity with NO PROFESSIONAL TRAINING and watch them evolve into a dancer. Mario had prior professional dance training. And while he was great, you didn't see great improvement.

There's no question Mario was the best dancer. That's why I don't like seeing trained dancers like Mario on the show. It's almost unfair. What captured America's heart with Emmitt Smith was the transformation. Taking a football player and turning him into a Ball Room dancer. That's what the show is supposed to be about.

I so agree with you. Every year when DWTS starts my mother and I talk about how Mario should have won the contest. As a matter of fact, I quit watching DWTS for the most part after this and some other things, namely popularity of the pro dancers/stars affecting the voting. I catch it every now and then but I don't watch it regularly.

Just because you might not be able to dance like that naturally, doesn't mean that other people can't. He's latino. We latins have it in our blood! hehe When I use to go out to my favorite nightclub every weekend with my friends to dance, I ALWAYS had women coming up to me and asking if I was a professional dancer! I've never, ever had even one lesson in my entire life!!

Mario may be a reasonable dancer he is not capable do combat with Karina's expertise and professional skills.

Thing is Mario not winning, didnt matter. His career got a HUGE resurgence. He had nothing before, now he hosts Extra, by himself and he hosts Americas Best Dance Crew, and does Broadway and TV here and there. So somewhat if he came in second place? he needed this show, and he got the most out of it, from NOT winning then anyone I ever seen.

Mario is a better dancer than Emmitt Smith. He was much more technically sound than Emmitt. And he should. He's a professionally trained dancer. Smith was out of his element. But Emmitt had more fun, and it showed in their dance. Emmitt smiled genuinely and often during his performances. It won over the crowd and the voters.

yeah, but they keep advertising dwts as a dance competition, not a popularity contest. for people who actually pay to see ballet or ballroom dancing, it's absurd to have a worse dancer win over a much better one - even if we know that the most who watch dwts don't know a thing about ballroom dancing. here's an analogy: wouldn't it be absurd to have patrick swayze win over mikhail baryshnikov in a ballet version of dwts? btw, i don't care how much more experience baryshnikov had over swayze.

You miss the point of the show completely. The object is to take a celebrity that doesn't dance professionally, and watch them evolve into a dancer. It's not a dance competition for trained dancers. If that was the case, Mario should be competing against Karina and the other pros. And as good as he is, he would surely lose to them. That's why Swayze should NOT be on the show. He's a trained dancer. Emmitt Smith was a football player. It was interesting to see him progress.

Emmitt Smith, the football player, embodied the true essence of the show. Take a celebrity with NO PROFESSIONAL TRAINING and watch them evolve into a dancer. Mario had prior professional dance training. And while he was great, you didn't see great improvement.

BreeShorty, boy, you sure got that right! I only started watching the show a few seasons ago so decided to go back and check out the finalists. I love Cheryl Burke but you're right , absolutely no comparison, these two are fantastic. Such a shame.
