  • I also used half white half brown flour to make it a bit more healthy it was lush! and such a higher quality than what you get in the shops!

  • Thank you very much for posting, Bread turned out great, really nice, and so quick and easy! I doubt if ill ever by a loaf from the shops again and in the process actually realized how much I enjoy baking! thank yoooouuuu! xxx

  • It turned out better than I could have ever imagined, thank you so much for this recipe...they're so easy to follow...please do some more!

  • Thanks for this video, it's just what I was looking for..going to try it later this week!

  • Why does it sound like you are sawing through wood? Is the bread's crust that hard? Is it possible to make a bread with a very soft (like a store loaf) crust?

  • 4:22 - 4:26 lol

  • hi how long will this homemade bread last?Im from e tropics

  • that's good, didn't khow British have the mood to make breads. but good job on this.

  • Thanks for the help. I tried converting using one of the converters on the net but it just did not look right.

    @adjustedstone

Hi I've converted this recipe to the following US measurements and it works beautifully! :)

4+3/4 cups unbleached bread flour, 2 tsp salt, 1tsp brown sugar, 2+1/4 tsp of instant rapid rise yeast (or 1 satchet of 7g instant rapid rise yeast), 1+2/3 cups lukewarm water,

    3tblsp melted butter.

    Temperature 400f for 30 mins.

    Hope this helps. :)

  • what is a sultana?

  • Nice.

I bake my own bread too. I can't abide store bought now!

    Well done.

  • hi the video looks awesome .i lived in canada i was wondering if it's gonna turn out the same if i used whole wheat flour instead of white flour and also i guess our measuring cup is not the same as in u.k. can i use canadian measurement instead? Thanks

  • Hi, I am thinking of getting a mixer just like yours to start making all sort of cakes, cookies and bread. May I know which model of Kenwood are you using? Interesting recipe you got there. Thanks.

  • I cant wait to try this! I love the taste testers :) I laughed soo hard!!

  • Love this! My kids love "helping out" in the kitchen. Good to see a basic recipe that will actually work for them.

  • Very nice video - my attempts at bread making are pathetic - I prefer the fresh white sliced stuff! But at nearly £1.50 a throw, I think I'd better try YOUR recipe.

BTW - Something entirely different. In case you don't know about 'gardasil' vaccine, PLEASE see Alex Jones on here (You Tube) on this subject. VERY important for parents with young kids, especially girls. (Dr Sherri Tenpenny talks to Alex about 'gardasil' vaccinations and the dangers thereof) This is VERY important subject matter

  • Thanks for the video. I plan on making this bread. I live in the US and the conversion is giving me a bit of problems. Do you have the recipe in US measurements cups, oz, ?

We do not have easy yeast would it be the same as rapid rise?

    Thanks

  • @adjustedstone yea its the same

  • @adjustedstone Hi I've converted this recipe to the following US measurements and it works beautifully! :)

  • Thanks for the video. I plan on making this bread. I live in the US and the conversion is giving me a bit of problems. Do you have the recipe in US measurements cups, oz, ?

    Thanks

  • thank you for sharing!! I really must try it!

  • can i bake in microwave,in t hat the max temp is 210 celsius, and also tell me that how to check 115 c temp of water without termometer

  • @gunsite308 ,I completely agree about the machine...what with the electricity of the mixer and the oven, fan and lights, each loaf must cost about 2 or 3 pounds!.so... even easier if you CUT the water in with a KNIFE..the dough doesn´t stick to the knife and the work is far lighter.

but kate, thanks for the video!

  • Indeed bread can be made with all purpose flour and many types(at least here in the US)are made with it. However the taste and texture is very different for the educated palate. Not to say that both can not be good, indeed they can but it depends upon the product itself. A ver fluffy tender dinner roll is best with the all purpose, while a chewier, crustier one is best with bread flour/strong flour. White bread can be very good with ap flour, use all milk instead and you will love it.

  • Thank you so much. Great and great-tasting recipe. Cheers from the U.S.S.A. :)

  • Kate I bet you taste good like bread and butter.

  • Kate you're amazing. I wanna eat your bread off of you.

  • What would be the measurement in US measurements. Thank you.

  • you could also try 2/3 strong white flour and 1/3 strong brown flour, thats what i use, adds abit of contrast to flavour

  • Could you add edam cheese to make a cheese loaf?

  • This was amazing! I made this tonight and it turned out spectacular! Thank you so much for sharing your recipe!

  • Thank you so much for this! I made bread using this recipe today and it came out great. Instead of white flour I used wheat. At first it wouldn't rise, so I opened the warm oven and put the loaf pan on the door and put a damp towel over it and it rose that way.

  • I have a bread maker and usually use that but when I put my dough into my loaf pan and use the oven, my dough is always uncooked....I knock the loaf on the bottom and it sounds hollow...but its raw in the middle when cut...can you help....I live at above 5,000 ft.

  • Hi and thanks for your recipe, it looks great :)

I was wondering....do I HAVE to use yeast ? Not a big fan of it, doesn't go well in my stomach, can I use baking powder instead ?

  • excellent video kate..... my wifes been cooking and baking for 35 years and has massive exeperience in the kitchen however she was glued to the pc watching your bread recipe .... so well done

however having a fan oven does help... we only have a standard electric oven with no fan assistance ,but we do have a bread maker .....

can you use the same recipe and add tea and fruit for a fruity loaf? well done and keep up the good work

  • I'm a 40 yr old bloke. I followed this recipe and I hafta say it really does work.

  • Right, Bread Number two, well done! :)

  • whats the purpose of adding flour on top of the other loaf do you have to do that I might try this recipe to see how it comes out,,,,

  • Hello thanks for this receipe. Its a keeper. I never had such soft n perfect bread at home until i made this one :-)

  • You're a real natural with the camera!!! i've watched may "how to" food videos. You're wonderful!! :D

  • nice

  • Made this today... wow DELICIOUS :D thank you!

  • hello, i would like to ask, if i add like 2 eggs, what will the results most probably be?

and can i use corn flour instead?

  • hello, i would like to ask, if i add like 2 eggs, what will the results most probably be?

and can i use corn flour instead?

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you. My bread was lovely. Soft, high and tasty.

And complete after work rather than the standard 4 hours it normally takes me. I didn't use instant yeast, I had the yeast proof in half the water and added the remainder in the mixer. Such good stuff, I'm thrilled.

  • made it today! was guud!

  • Nice video, thank you. What is your opinion on all-purpose white flour that's common here in the U.S.?

  • i had never made bread before ever lol , but wanted to try , i followed ur video and it came out amazing and smelt lovely, my husband and kids loved it , thank you for making this video :) ,

  • can't bit down the smell of homemade.... hahaha... love your vids. help me alot deciding which bread to make... thanks.

  • Yes, bread number 2 looked much nicer. Yummm

  • Lovely! :)

  • You are so funny when you say that you are constantly accosted by parents for the recipe. I am a teacher, myself, so I completely understand when you mean.... ;o) I make a mean Play-Doh for my students to play with, and I let them take it home to play with. I LOVE the recipe... it's soooo easy and mostly definitely better than the clunky bread machine. To see the dough rise and slight kneading is just so satisfying. I wanted to know if I can use this recipe to make baked soft pretzels? Thanks!!

  • I made it. It's simple to make, and everybody loved it. Even my 3 yr old daughter.

  • This is the best bread I ever had. My husband just kept on raving. Thanks so much!!!

  • erm rnt u using a bread machine?!

  • @astroboirap no she was using a mixer..

  • Hi Kate,I've just made that loaf ,absolutely brilliant, and so simple. Do you have a wholemeal bread recipe,or do I just replace the strong white with strong wholemeal flour.

  • i dont know if you'd know the answer, but do you think this is healthier than traditional store white bread? I've been told that white bread virtually has no nutritional value compared to wheat, so I'm just curious. :) This recipe looks excellent and delicious!

  • thanks a lot.. i

im making it at the moment.. so ill let you know in 1hr..

    thanks !!!!!!!!!

    xxx

  • This recipe turned out wonderful from across the pond. Worked well and the family loved it. Thanks for the lecture.

  • if i do individual rolls, i do have to let it rise too...? (sorry, first time trying!!!! x.x)

  • wad's an airing cupboard? >< first time im hearing of something like this.. if i dont have an airing cupboard.. is it okay if i just place the dough with a pot of boiling water together in the oven? to speed up the doubling of size! =D i wanna try this out!! cause it seems reeeeaalllyyyy convenient! ^_^

  • Comment removed

  • @duaneafields lol ive just been watching olivas kitchen ..loved your comment great boobs i agree

  • oh u are intelegent

  • Kenwoods ROCK!!! I have two. A 1982 one, and a 2006 one. Can't make awesome shit without em.

  • Thank you for videos. I'm new to baking so I thought I'd try your recipe as it seems easy enough, but I keep getting a bread with nice crust but the inside not cooked properly. it happened three times now. I don't know what I'm doing wrong as I followed the recipe to the letter each time. can you pls help?

  • Hi, I tried this recipe yesterday. It turns out fantastic. Thank you for it.

You know what my daughter told me. She said, mom you should open a bakery :)

  • LOL at knockoff Kitchen Aid

  • @pandavideos21aidan Kitchen Aids are the worst mixers to use for kneading dough. This is primary due to the wimpy 325-watt motor. Also, the Artisan series has a plastic gear box which abrades away when kneading bread dough.

KAs are also one of the cheapest mixers on the market and so tend to be more popular than their quality should merit.

  • @martisbvk

While the newer probably the last 10 yrs the KA is not the powerhouse it use to be but I assure you earlier models were. In fact the mixers were known to last 30 yrs or more, Mine is about 13 yrs old and I make bread frequently with the smaller model without problem. I did like the orbital action of Kate's mixer with the dough hook.

  • It took me my third attempt to get this to rise as nice as yours did in the video but I got there and I'm binning my breadmaker now!! Yipee. Thanks for sharing this excellent video

  • Just wanted to let you know I make bread with this recipie every week now and everyone loves it. I was wondering if I wanted to make a fruit loaf do I just add sultana's and maybe a pinch of cinamon??

  • @Amandah86 Hi, i'm delighted to hear you are having success with this recipe! What I like to do is soak sultanas in either orange juice, or maple syrup (just enough to cover about 60g) and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon for 30mins-1hr so they plump up and then add this to the mix! Very tasty addition! Keep cooking, x

  • Great video & recipe! Thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you Olivia for this great simple recipe. My family loves it. Could you possibly add things to it, like rosemary or walnuts?

  • @benzmxd Sounds delcious! I would add approx 80g of walnuts, but go easy on the rosemary as it's very strong! You could rub the uncooked loaf with a little olive oil, rock salt and some rosemary before baking! Sultanas and walnuts are lovely together! Keep cooking x

  • Very nice video!! Congratulations!!

  • lovely, i wish i could try too:D

  • What a great non fail recipe !! I have had 100% success, perfect loaves every time.Even Wholemeal. We don't buy bread anymore!!! I'm amazed a dumb old fella like me can make a perfect loaf everytime in about an hour and half.THANKS OLIVIA

  • What a great non fail recipe. So foolproof even an old biddy like me can get perfect results every time, and all within an hour and half. Who needs a bread maker!!I've even tried Wholemeal with complete success......THANKS OLIVIA

  • So I had to convert this to USA measurements. If you don't mind, I'll post them here for your US buddies- 4 3/4 c. bread flour. 2 t. salt 1t. brown sugar. 2 1/4 t. yeast (I used bread machine yeast, not instant) 1 2/3 c. water(ish) 3T butter. in kitchenaid mixer. I made this recipe today, and boy howdy! I can't wait to sink my teeth into it for dinner! Thank you Olivia for posting this, (have to say I had a few pieces just after lunch, and they were amazing!) it's now my daily bread recipe!

  • Whats the difference between strong white bread flower and regular flower? Ive never seen it in my local shop.

  • @Amandah86

    Hi

You prob havn't noticed it, but most supermarkets will sell it! Strong Bread Flour has a higher glutin content which makes the dough elastic and gives bread the lovely light airy texture. You can't make bread with regular four i'm afraid!

Today I made my bread recipe and added a heaped teaspoon of cinnamon and about 75g of sultanans and 50g brown sugar. I made 10 x 100g rolls and cooked them for 15 mins. They were delicious!

  • @OliviasKitchen You can make bread with regular flour, I've done it many times. It's just not as good.

  • very nice!!

  • Still enjoying making this recipe!! I make the bread often and everyone loves it!!

  • Still making this wonderful bread recipe!! My entire family loves it and I enjoy making it! Hope all is well with you and your family!

  • hi there great recipe will it hurt if i used flora marg instead of butter and some mixed fruit aswell

  • @TheBoldman1

Hi, you can use Flora, or even Olive Oil! Mixed fruit would be a lovely addition. Why not add a teaspoon of cinnamon too!

    Happy Cooking.

    Best wishes

    Kate

  • fun--- =) Can someone tell me what kind of mixer she has?

  • Simple & fast ! Thank-you for posting. Looking for old fashion doughnut recipe the cake type, also fall is getting closer would love some soup and stew recipes. Happy Cooking from Canada

  • What an awesome, simple recipe! I must try it, it seems foolproof even for a novice baker as myself. I hope my taste testers are as cute and affable!!!

  • why is there no eggs? :D im just asking because most recipes have eggs in them :) Thankyou~

  • awesome ...i will give the homemade one a try...good job

  • thank you i will give thi recipe a try... is the butter that you added unsalted butter or salted? thank you .

  • @Markofitch

    Hi

Thank you for watching! You can use salted, or unsalted - whatever you have at home! The salt in the butter will just add flavour - HAPPY COOKING! x

  • You are fabulous! A pleasure to watch / listen to / follow. My bread turned out beautifully too :o) Thanks - a delighted Aussie mum

  • lol oops spoke to soon, sorry Olivia I see the measurements that i need. thanks

  • Very nice video, I loved how you tested both methods and how you got your family involved...such sweethearts! I want to try your recipe right now so I'm off to look for a table of measurements that will translate the liters into cups. wish me luck. :D

  • can i make baguettes out of this? and can i use cornmeal instead

  • @jenniexpark .

    Hi

You can make baguette-shaped bread, but French bread uses a very different recipe and you might find this recipe too dense. Also, in France they have a different type of flour which i'm not sure is readily available in our shops! Re the cornmeal, you could def add 100g and just use less while flour! Good luck

    Kate

  • Great video and recipe!

  • I loved it I made pizzas thanks

  • can i replace the strong white bread flour to normal flour as i couldn't find it in my area

  • Hi

Unfortunately you do need 'strong' white flour. Let me know where you are based and i will find a supplier for you! It's the higher levels of glutin in strong flour that are important for the texture of the bread! Let me know.

    Thanks

    Kate

  • @cherie88cc92 yes I did I still was fine

  • When you say 'that smells like home made bread', well, so would the other, because you use the same ingredients, just the other one takes longer.

  • very good video

  • Thanks for posting this.. I just started out on makeing my own bread. I have made two sucessful and one fail so far. Tomorrow I think I will try your recipie.

  • i dont understand, first you say this recipes is easy because you dont have to do all the kneading and rising, but then you say, you have to knead it and let it rise...

  • the taste test was the best part... I will try this recipe, looks like fun! :)

  • what is an "airing cupboard?

  • @gbislander

Hi, an airing cupboard is where my hot water tank is, so it's lovely and warm, I usually use it to store my towels. Anywhere warm will do!

    Thanks for watching!

    Kate

  • @gbislander . Thanks :0) I subscribed to your lovely channel, but I don't know how to insert a picture by my name. Any ideas?

  • Delightful. I haven't tried the bread yet, but the video and cast were a pleasure.

  • This is fantastic and has inspired me to bake a loaf this morning... wish me luck!

  • :) Your video made me smile :) I loved the way you guys voted for the best bread .. It made the video more exciting.. Thank you for the wonderful recipe ..

  • Thank you this is going to be ggreat for my Food Technology project!

  • Still enjoying making this loaf of bread...it is so easy and it is so good...are you not able to make anymore videos? Your recipes are all so good and easy to do. Thanks!

  • great recipe. thanks for sharing.

  • Hey Kate. I had made several wholemeal loaves over the weekend finally getting it right I think. I wanted to make a while load in a tin, never done it before and I busted my Kenwood so I actually needed to knead this one. I went at it for several minutes thinking oh god this isn't going to work. Slapped it in the tin then went off to Watch an episode of Dr Who. I came back stunned. It worked. It was like magic. Just baked it and I can't tell you how thrilled I am. Like a 5 year old :o)

  • I have no idea what grams means. I only know in cups

  • google it.

  • I make this recipe all the time now and the bread is indeed easy to make and tastes wonderful. I wanted to say that since there is only three of us here now we sometimes don't finish the entire loaf and I will cut it up in little squares and put the cubes on a lightly buttered cookie sheet and bake for several hours at 230* F and they make delicious croutons to munch on! Everyone loves them!

  • This is such a great video. Thank you for sharing your recipe and presenting it so clearly.

  • I do like this - lovely and simple! Might give this a try with my kids instead of using my bread machine, to compare the end results.

(Just hope the nail varnish gets taken off though when you're teaching cooking!!)

  • thank you now i have a perfect solution for my need to make bread fast so as not to miss my appointment

  • I made this bread the other day and it came out PERFECT!!! What an easy recipe and what a beautiful loaf of bread! Thanks so much and keep the videos coming I enjoy your videos and your daugther is precious!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't have bread flour on hand but continued watching because I loved the accent and the precious taste testers at the end were so charming!! I can't wait to try this easy bread!

  • Even though its your first blog, must say you were very professional and clear on go to go about making bread.

    Thanks

  • Great stuff. I'm gonna have a go at this. Thanks!

  • Fantastic....off to try for myself now as I have the bread making bug!!!

Just made my first loaf this morning with bread making machine, ok I guess but I'm looking for perfection.

    Thanks in advance.

  • The taste test at the end was very funny.

  • Mmmmmmm

    Homemade Bread...

I use my breadmaker for molasses raisin bread, which is good...But my mom makes the same homemade bread which is far better than mine.

    Newfoundland cousin :)
