she throws those stupid whiny trills in her forced vibrato because she genuinely can't sing. you can train a voice and edit it extensively in the mixing room but at the end of the day if they weren't born with a voice, then they weren't born with a voice.

@meetdiamond You kind of are hating. Gwen has a highly stylised voice, her wide vibrato is unique and not many singers could replicate her vocals if they tried. Just because you don't like her sound doesn't mean she was born without a voice.

Writing hits and having a unique voice are great talents to have. No matter how good your voice is, if it's not highly distinguished then you won't have success. It's not the 80s anymore where Brenda K Starr, Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul could have hits.

I just personally don't like her voice. And I'm not strictly stuck on super polished voices either (I mean, I like everything from rapsy female vocals to country-twang to classically trained opera singers). I remember seeing this back in 1996 and saying to myself "this chick is going to be famous!" 2 months later they came here to Australia, and I got to kiss Gwen on the hand at an album signing in Brisbane. She also posed with me for a photo...I remember putting me arm around her waist and pulling her in nice and tight, and then she placed her hand on my back...I can still feel that touch even today....Life is made up of little memories like I've just described :)
