every teacher needs to view this movie, it has provided me with inspiration when i have had a bad teaching day. I cried like a baby the first time I saw this movie, teachers will relate best
The second most powerful scene of the movie with the breakfast scene.Extraordinary day and miracle at the pump. Two miracles.Helen's rebirth and coming to light and ann's deliverance too cause she saved helen and received love and cured the little unhappy girl within her.God bless them .
You need to visit Tuscumbia Alabama each Summer when THE MIRACLE WORKER is performed live behind Ivy Green, the home Helen grew up in, The pump is still there and the show is top notch.
This scene destroys me every time. I start getting choked up at "Wa wa" but when Annie yells, "She knows!" I completely lose it. Reminds me why I became a teacher.
I think people like you are really special. You must know exactly what Annie was feeling when she finally broke through to Helen. Thank you on behalf of the world.
Do you teach blind and deaf? I'm just curious, cause I feel the same way when I see people learning. It's like when you turn the light on in a dark room. Is wonderful!
this is soo beautiful i think annie finally opens her heart♥!! helen keller is a very intelligent woman and child this scene is wonderful!!!! soo emotional and beautiful!!!
This was a simple communications project to show the breakthrough and different sort of interactions that tie into Organizational Behavior within business. The object was to find examples of certain criteria within the forms of communication and relate them in a business sense, if I remember correctly.
I have to agree with the poster who said that Patty Duke did a much better job than Melissa Gilbert. I truly do not think that this is a movie that should have been attempted, again. Patty Duke's performance is phenomenal, never to be duplicated, no matter who may try. It is just one of those things that simply can't be improved upon, it is perfect the way it is. In other words,as the adage goes..."if it isn't broke, don't fix it".
Agreed. I wish Hollywood would stop remaking classics and instead rerelease these movies so that anyone who was never alive or old enough to see these film in the theatres could.
The performance by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke in this movie from begining to end is the greatest of all time....no other actors, child or adult that might come along, could ever top such a classic as The Miracle Worker.
Boy did she ever! Patty Duke's outstanding, emotionally charged, every-moment-gripping performance, in one of the finest movies ever made, was leeeagues above and beyond Gilbert's--to me somehow fake, and never believable--rendering. I was left wondering "Whyy..whyyy did they choose her?!"
I guess it depends on which one you saw first. I saw this one, first, and in my opinion, no one will ever be able to out perform Patty Duke as Helen Keller. I defy anyone , unless they have a heart of stone, to get through this movie without crying at the very end.
Amen! Absolutely true. I, to this day, can't do it! Especially since I came to find out Helen herself wrote that that day was the most important day of her life. The magnitude of that breakthrough overwhelms me, every. single. time.
Agreed. There are many emotional parts throughout the movie, but this one--this particular scene--is very difficult to to get through without being overwhelmed.
God, I cry everytime I see this. When she says "Wa Wa" and has an epiphany like a baby would when she starts to learn a new language....Oh God, here I go again. *Grabs Kleenex*
Annie (teacher) had been trying to do sign language in her hands so she could learn to talk that way, and identify things: with sign language. But she never ever understood, or tried to. Finally when they're at the pump, Annie spells out water in Helen's hands again and again, when Helen gets the idea. Then she starts to understand that the weird motions in her hands are names, and she gets excited. Helen is still blind and deaf, but she can now communicate through signing in someone's hands.
OMG... i cry everytime i see this scene, don't know why, but i guess the love and longing that the parents show for wanting to connect with their child, and the discovery of a breakthrough are so emotional, the music, and everything about it draws something out of me everytime, i needed to see this,, thank you
I agree. I have Sickle Cell Disease. Everyday is a struggle, especially when I find those who don't care. (I want people who care, but I don't want pity.) Happy Holidays to you!
My only problem with youtube so far is that I could find almost nothing from Helen Keller herself. This is archive footage out there, and people should really see that. It is a shame that there are so many people out there that are so horrid to people who are just as great as them, if not greater. Those who do not have to overcome adversity should have a double helping of empathy.

No other actress can do this like Patty Duke. Now I hear they're doing another version to be released in April. Can't we leave the classics alone?

It was a Disney movie isn't it? The girl in Helen's role is Hallie Kate Eisenberg. A redhead with curly hair.
She's good, but I like the 1962 better!
