Thank you for your video. I was diagnosed with primary progressive MS a year ago. Right now it's relatively benign but that may not last. I've a string of other problems that either elude diagnosis or have been diagnosed differently multiple times. All I can do is hope I keep what health I have & keep my insurance. Good luck to you. We need a national health care plan or a state run health plan because costs are skyrocketing and more people are unable or choose not to spend the money for coverage and when they get sick,taxpayers have to cover them so is that fair to me who pays $300 a month for my coverage? well with all due repect no it isn't.Every G8 nation has a national system of some type,it's time we did too.

Well I really didn't think that anyone actually thought that Health Care was free to the point that not even any Taxes went toward it, but you are correct to say that our Taxes are probably higher. And further to the Free Vs. NOT Free status of Canadian Health Care. As I said there is no direct charge to the patient for medical care just like there is no direct charge to you when the Fire department responds with 20 men and two pumper trucks to put out your house fire for a cost of about $30.000. You aren't billed for any of it because the cost is covered from Taxes which everyone pays to various levels of government anyway. I like it, and I think Americans would too!
At the risk of starting a Civil War here in Canada over this, I will re-clarify. Where I live in Canada, you can walk into any hospital and have your medical problem taken care of without any direct expense to you, not even the cost of a Band-aid. The Government pays for everything out of General Revenue which is derived from taxes. You don't get a bill, and there are no monthly medical bills at all, unless you decide to buy stuff from the pharmacy, like Bandaids, cough syrup etc.
Health care in the United States is based on the dollar. If you have lots of money and can afford good health insurance then you get the best care in the world. (But be careful that you make sure you use direct deposit for your health insurance because if they find out you have breast cancer then the insurance company will rip up your premium and send you a red letter saying you've been dropped)! We have Free Universal Health Care in Canada, so you don't pay for anything not even a Band-Aid, but it isn't always easy to get non critical things done quickly, as there is usually a waiting list. I'd like to (briefly) make the point that the reason for our shoddy health care in America is precisely because of government regulation. If we allowed competition in the medical field it would result in (a) better care, and (b) lower prices - the natural effects of a market economy. I did not go to medical school for 4yrs plus 5more for residency and another 1yr of fellowship and an average work week of 60hrs. during residency and owe $150k to make around $120k that Canadian doctors make, when our salaries are over $500k for a Radiologist. Well deserved let me remind you.

Healthcare is not a right. I should not have to pay for your poor health. Maybe you should have stayed in school and payed attention. No offense but most Americans that complain about not having good or no healthcare is because they lack a good job and education. We all have a choice and many chose the wrong path.

I simply can't understand why people feel they deserve big salaries full well knowing that there are hard workers that simply don't have the opportunities others have. Maybe you grew up in a prosperous neighborhood, or just had too many rich kid friends at college but I have a news flash for you. I am chronically ill, I receive medicare for that reason. Medicare is not just for 65+ it is also for chronically ill. Not all disabled receive medicare. We are in a different system.

Medicaid is health coverage provided by the state for people with low or no income. Medicare is health coverage provided by the federal government for people over the age of 65 or those who are disabled. She doesn't look 65 so I assume she is disabled and that's why she is getting medicare. So basically, she is bitching about government health care not doing anything for her. What I can't believe is that she wants more government health care.

For your information, Akf worked very hard before she became ill. She enjoyed her job very much. She was young when she became ill and had no idea "they system" she paid into would turn it's back when she was unable to work. Having your arm out of the socket while the muscles stretch and tear for hours while the staff checks your insurance coverage and reads the book on how to put it back into place in the ER...well, let's hope you don't experience that even ONE time.

The US health care system is seriously flawed and that's what Michael Moore's documentary will expose. Here, insurance is not about getting you the care you need. It's about them paying the least amount of money they can to keep their profits. Even if it's not the best treatment for the patient.
Insurance companies even have doctors on their payroll to recommed treatment to patients so that they don't have to pay out on claims. And yes, it is disgusting!
Yes, its called having an HMO. That is what you get for having cheap insurance. Why should hospitals cover your bills. They are not in business to give away money.
You are a small percentage of the american population. Most people live paycheck to paycheck. Call it lazyness or whatever you choose, but not everyone has the ability to place themselves in a situation to get a higher education and a well paying job. I'm not wealthy. But I don't live in poverty either. I have "good insurance" and I pay alot of money for it.
(con't) You are lucky enough, like myself, to be healthy and not really "need" insurance. If something catastrophic were to occur to either of us, I'm willing to bet this "good insurance" would fight our claims. In my opinon, insurance is the biggest scam in the history of mankind (all types, not just health).
Actually, my Dad went had serious problems and his health insurance never questioned a charge. These scams you refer to are insurance compaines making sure there are no false claims. False claims happen everyday and if I were them I would check and double check.

(con't) As a young adult, it's incredibly expensive to insure my vehicles. I understand that young drivers are a higher risk for an insurance company. And I do get discounts for never having a ticket *knock on wood* and being married, and things such as that. But if I were to get in an accident, my insurance company that I pay thousands of dollars to every year, would pay to fix my car and then raise my rate b/c I'd now be labeled as a higher risk.
(con't) Do I not pay for the insurance for just such a case? And then they are going to punish me for using it for what it's intended for!? It's ludicrous. You deserve your success. You worked hard for it. But please jump down off of your high horse for a second and realize that being up there doesn't make you better than everyone else.
I am not what health ins. you have but my fathers ins. never went up do to all the treatments he had. Car Ins. is high because of all the false claims. "oh my neck hurts, etc". These claims happen every min.of the day. I have compassion or would not be a doctor. I could have easly gone into stocks or real estate and make even more money.

Thank you for your video. I was diagnosed with primary progressive MS a year ago. Right now it's relatively benign but that may not last. I've a string of other problems that either elude diagnosis or have been diagnosed differently multiple times. All I can do is hope I keep what health I have & keep my insurance. Good luck to you. We need a national health care plan or a state run health plan because costs are skyrocketing and more people are unable or choose not to spend the money for coverage and when they get sick,taxpayers have to cover them so is that fair to me who pays $300 a month for my coverage? well with all due repect no it isn't.Every G8 nation has a national system of some type,it's time we did too.

Well I really didn't think that anyone actually thought that Health Care was free to the point that not even any Taxes went toward it, but you are correct to say that our Taxes are probably higher. And further to the Free Vs. NOT Free status of Canadian Health Care. As I said there is no direct charge to the patient for medical care just like there is no direct charge to you when the Fire department responds with 20 men and two pumper trucks to put out your house fire for a cost of about $30.000. You aren't billed for any of it because the cost is covered from Taxes which everyone pays to various levels of government anyway. I like it, and I think Americans would too!

At the risk of starting a Civil War here in Canada over this, I will re-clarify. Where I live in Canada, you can walk into any hospital and have your medical problem taken care of without any direct expense to you, not even the cost of a Band-aid. The Government pays for everything out of General Revenue which is derived from taxes. You don't get a bill, and there are no monthly medical bills at all, unless you decide to buy stuff from the pharmacy, like Bandaids, cough syrup etc.

(But be careful that you make sure you use direct deposit for your health insurance because if they find out you have breast cancer then the insurance company will rip up your premium and send you a red letter saying you've been dropped)! We have Free Universal Health Care in Canada, so you don't pay for anything not even a Band-Aid, but it isn't always easy to get non critical things done quickly, as there is usually a waiting list. My understanding of the U.S. system is that you can get anything done very quickly, but you have to pay is that correct?

You still have to wait. usually for the insurance company to tell the doctor what they will pay for.

I'd like to (briefly) make the point that the reason for our shoddy health care in America is precisely because of government regulation. If we allowed competition in the medical field it would result in (a) better care, and (b) lower prices - the natural effects of a market economy. The doctors that make $120k are family doc's. They are not slackers but they are paid a lower wage because there is less involved. They do not operate or read xrays, etc. In fact there has been a major decline of Family Physicians over the last 10yrs. because of the low pay. More Med students are doing residencys in more lucrative postions. We hate dealing with idiot patients all the time for crap pay. Always complaining!!! Most not all.

I did not go to medical school for 4yrs plus 5more for residency and another 1yr of fellowship and an average work week of 60hrs. during residency and owe $150k to make around $120k that Canadian doctors make, when our salaries are over $500k for a Radiologist. Well deserved let me remind you.

why you ask me what is the income tax rate canada? google it. as far as i can find, it's in line with US tax rates. the only significant additional tax I see is 6% national sales tax.

dacherx, Our hospital has many Canadians paying cash to have there surgerys done here in the U.S otherwise they would be waiting months in Canada. There healthcare system is falling apart and they have a worse shortage of Doctors because of the low pay.

Healthcare is not a right. I should not have to pay for your poor health. Maybe you should have stayed in school and payed attention. you already are subsidizing other people's hc in an roundabout and wasteful way. if you are 31 yo, like in your profile, and childless, most of your healthcare premiums are paying for families, 40, 50, 60 year old's covered by your plan, who have much higher medical expenses. After 65 or whatever retirement age, you are probably dumped off to medicare by your private insurance anyway. Oh no, you'll be on government hc insurance too.

If we do what Michael wants (socialized healthcare or Universal) you will see the biggest shortage of Doctors and increase of federal taxes that would put you further into poverty and millions of others.

not all doctors have big houses. actually they are small in comparsion to what they can really afford. I have a 3600sq. ft home only because we have kids and have family and friends stay with us throughout the year. We could have bought a 15000sq. ft if we really wanted to. We as most doctors have earned it. The majority could not handle are work load and have the smarts to event get into medical school. Hey we should make more money.

Maybe you grew up in a prosperous neighborhood, or just had too many rich kid friends at college but I have a news flash for you. There are plenty of doctors doing what they do with excellence in third world countries for minimum compensation because they CARE for the work they do.

I wish I had a rich family. They could have paid the $150K plus I owe in school loans. I did not go to the best schools. I did notice allot of fellow classmates not taking school seriously. They would rather go to a party or goof off than study. Only blame yourselves for the lack of conviction. Oprah is a great example. She came from a very very poor family. hmmm excuses,excused.

I am chronically ill, I receive medicare for that reason. Medicare is not just for 65+ it is also for chronically ill. Not all disabled receive medicare. We are in a different system.

they don't allow it anymore. I got a director account because that is what I thought,,, then I wrote to them and they said that they don't allow it because people were taking advantage of it.

Medicaid is health coverage provided by the state for people with low or no income. Medicare is health coverage provided by the federal government for people over the age of 65 or those who are disabled. She doesn't look 65 so I assume she is disabled and that's why she is getting medicare. So basically, she is bitching about government health care not doing anything for her. What I can't believe is that she wants more government health care.

For your information, Akf worked very hard before she became ill. She enjoyed her job very much. She was young when she became ill and had no idea "they system" she paid into would turn it's back when she was unable to work. Having your arm out of the socket while the muscles stretch and tear for hours while the staff checks your insurance coverage and reads the book on how to put it back into place in the ER...well, let's hope you don't experience that even ONE time.

I live in Canada. I have socialized medicine. I visited the doctor the other day. I had to wait an hour. The waits can be long, but everyone gets good health care.

I made my living out of working with disable people and I have heard MANY of them understandably "bitching" about their HC...especially those who do not have any. If someone is able to work, they are not truly disabled...only labeled as such by society. Thank-you for suggesting I move but you assume too much by suggesting WHERE I move. I plan to locate overseas. I'll need a plane ticket and I suggest you save your money because, one day; you may need it yourself.

You are out of touch until you or a loved one has a debilitating disease. I don't care what kind of health insurance you are under. You will find that it is very hard to get the care you need. You are just an ignorant ass..but I am sure someday you will be educated on the issue from a personal level, maybe not now but it is inevitable we will all have to visit a hospital maybe for 1 day or many.

medicaid is an insurance program we have in the US to help out families with low income & resources. The US health care system is seriously flawed and that's what Michael Moore's documentary will expose. Here, insurance is not about getting you the care you need. It's about them paying the least amount of money they can to keep their profits. Even if it's not the best treatment for the patient.

Actually, my Dad went had serious problems and his health insurance never questioned a charge. These scams you refer to are insurance compaines making sure there are no false claims. False claims happen everyday and if I were them I would check and double check.

(con't) As a young adult, it's incredibly expensive to insure my vehicles. I understand that young drivers are a higher risk for an insurance company. And I do get discounts for never having a ticket *knock on wood* and being married, and things such as that. But if I were to get in an accident, my insurance company that I pay thousands of dollars to every year, would pay to fix my car and then raise my rate b/c I'd now be labeled as a higher risk.

I am not what health ins. you have but my fathers ins. never went up do to all the treatments he had. Car Ins. is high because of all the false claims. "oh my neck hurts, etc". These claims happen every min.of the day. I have compassion or would not be a doctor. I could have easly gone into stocks or real estate and make even more money.
