  • I was born in time to meet Booker. Wonderful man about the size of two men. I'm looking at this video thinking I played on this guitar a couple of times when I was a teenager in Detroit. I wish I could get that time back, just for one day.

  • Is that Sleepy John Estes sitting in between Bukka and The Wolf?

  • @rmurbach1961 I think maybe the Rev Gary Davis?

  • @rmurbach1961 @BordiniBlues85 it's rev. pearly brown

  • That would bring a tear to a glass eye. Absolutely brilliant.

  • I woulda given my left breast to be in that room. Damn. Born to late or too early always been my curse.

  • @CarolyntheGreat breats :)

  • That's Mel Lyman who appears at the upper right corner of the screen at about 3:36. He was with the Jim Kweskin Jug Band in those days. Then he became some kind of cult figure up in a horrible place called Roxbury Mass.

  • @ThomasDeLello LOL Roxbury!!! Great place!!

  • My dad (born 1936) said one of the cowboys was Chet Atkins. He was also shocked that I found footage this rare....God Bless YouTube!!!

  • @A317861 The cowboy with the glasses looks kind of like the later Chet Atkins, but Chet wouldn't have been that old and didn't wear the glasses in '66.

  • Mark Guiliana in the background at 2.28

  • at 3:47 it looks like Woody Guthrie lighting a cigarette in the background there just behind Wolf over his left shoulder

  • @mdparrish1973 Unfortunately, in 1966 Woody Guthrie was laying in a hospital bed in Brooklyn State Hospital, crippled by Huntington's disease.

  • Il ceffo nel mezzo ha addosso una balla mica da scherzo. Ahaah!

  • @Methotrexat3 ahahaha è vero!! pieno come un otre! anche Howlin' Wolf però è messo bene...

  • THERE ARE SEVERAL UPLOADS AT THIS 66' NEWPORT FESTIVAL FEATURING DIFFERENT ARTISTS.

ANYONE KNOW WHO ALL THESE PEOPLE ARE?

    1) I SEE HOWLIN AND REV PEARLY BROWN AND MAYBE A WOMAN THAT SINGS WITH HIM LIKE BLIND WILLIE JOHNSON USE TO DO.

    2) I DONT KNOW THE GUYS WITH THE HATS.

    3) WHO IS THE GUY WITH THE LONG FACE AND MUSTACHE.

    4) IN ONE OF THE OTHER NEWPORT VIDEO'S THERE'S A WOMAN WITH A FULL SET OF BUCK TEETH.

    5) SEVERAL YOUNG MEN STANDING UP.

    6) AND OTHERS.

  • @WSMitchell1 yeah.well there were no 'electronic tuners' back then (i've never even used a tuner for at least 12 years..and anyways, when you only play by yourself, who needs a tuner?) but you are right, Bukka played in open minor tuning.. soooo sick since he played the slide, I personally have tried to play slide in Dminor and I just can't get that major sounding blues all the time. Ihave to play bukkas stuff in just open D... just easier for me...and it's fairly close to him..cheers

  • i migliori vi amooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!yeah!

  • Great! Too bad they never paid guys like this instead o' the mafia goon rock star types like Clapton.

  • I'd give so much to have this company! It is nice to see Rev. Pearly Brown getting mellow there, a man rarely mentioned. Bless.

  • which tuning?

  • @estderoma Seems to be some sort of open G tuning. Today I tried this: 6=G, 5=G, 4=D, 3=G, 2=B, 1=D. Worked just fine.

  • @estderoma Correction: the top string is a high G! I wouldn't risk that with my strings.

  • the blues wouldnt be the blues without a blind guy

  • i dont give a flyin f*@k what color you are what creed you are how big your shoe size is or how bad you stink haha this right here is some damn fine blues playing

and id like to thank the gentlemen in this video for playing this music!

    legends enough said!!

  • Is that Woody Allen at the far right @:38 second mark (and a little before and after)?

  • @dalexander36 No he wasnt that old in 1966 Im not sure who the cowboys are though

  • @GrisGrisOnUrDoorStep Just out of curiosity I was browsing pics of folks I know who played with these guys at one time or another. Could be members of the Bill Monroe Band and the smal hat guy kinda looks like Earl Scruggs. Im sure im wrong but i have seen pics of Bukka and Howlin Wolf with both of those bands. Porb taken at various folk festivals from the 50s and 60s. I guess its just gonna be a mystery.

  • @dalexander36 it really looks like him!

  • Mr Bukka White always kicking ass as always, he is one of the greatest delta players ever!

  • oh man!! that just blew me away

  • This beats everything

    .

  • B.B. kings cousin Bukka White???

  • @vauxhall908 Yep

  • Great stuff.

Incidentally, the guy on the right at 4:04 is Mel Lyman.

Not important relative to Bukka and Wolf, but a character in the Newport days.

  • This is great but I wish Howlin Wolf would shut up :-)

  • @bluepez57 I know ya kiddin' but it's called jibbin' just for the folks (not you) who aint been to a REAL blues house with more than one player and no headliner. That's when you get some of the best impromptu stuff! Look at Kilby Snow sitting in the middle soaking it all in! (I'd do the same thing!)

  • @mta415 : Yes, mta I was kiddin around - this is great ! Thanks for the info on Kilby Snow - I could not figure out who that was.

  • niggas plays hip hop now

  • @kickalion These aint no niggas, these here are men!
