  • Mass Effect is a series that has garnered too much worship and critical acclaim to just end after Mass Effect 3. So my belief is there will be another Mass Effect game in the future. I support a Prequel, why not the First Contact War? I think it was simply too short. The war was over one planet, The Turians occupied it, Humans reclaimed it, Both sides rallied their fleets but the Council intervened and stopped it. I think a Prequel should introduce something new entirely.

  • i do not think #8 would be answered in the movie

  • @zenlord22 yea. we discussed this. if no asari (liara) romance, then no need to explain #8.

  • If this actually came out, I bet all of the chavs who haven't played the game would get confused.

  • Mmm not sure prequel would be better I think

  • id like it to be the first contact war cause that would allow them more freedom. + that way would not upset any video gamer's cause it would not damage the games... and paint a backstory of the entire mass effect universe.

  • @bouldy2 Valid point.

  • Lol, shit storm incoming on your next video.

    I do prefer femshep.

  • I feel that the movie should be a combination of the three Shepard reputation stories (War Hero, Ruthless, and Sole Survivor). His origin could be Earthborn or Colonist to show humble origins and starting at a disadvantage yet overcoming them. The Skyllian Blitz is Shepard's first real taste of combat, and he excels as a leader. The massacre on Akuze scars Shepard for life, and it takes him a year to recover. During the retaliation on Torfan, that emotional damage leads Shepard to (cont.)

  • (cont.) ruthlessly slaughter the batarian slavers at the cost of his own troops. The Alliance sends Shepard on shore leave, as it's evident he needs a break from military service. Fast forward to 2183: Shepard is called into Captain Anderson's office and informed that he will serve as Anderson's XO aboard a brand new prototype stealth frigate, the Normandy. *roll credits*

  • @Doofe2012 Great points, but what is the character arc in the Origin Story? I feel like that's you speak of 2 arc.

    1. humble beginning to fearless leader

    2. up and coming young leader --> corrupted by rage --> trying to mend his/her way and earn forgiveness

You can only do 1 character arc in 1 movie.

  • @simongenius1 Yeah, in the game one can only select 1 service reputation for Shepard. However, I was thinking the movie could show a Shepard who fought at all 3 battles detailed in the 3 reputations (Elysium, Akuze, and Torfan). Since, you know, those all took place a year apart from each other and one person could conceivably have been present at all 3 battles. I think this would be the best choice for the plot of a Mass Effect movie since it doesn't really establish a true canon.

  • @Doofe2012 As much as I love battle and action sequences. With so many battles in ME1, ME2 and ME3, doing 3 battles in the origin story shouldn't be the thing the moviemakers focuses on. They really have to "pick their battles."

  • @simongenius1 While I somewhat agree with you, you have to remember it's Legendary Pictures doing the film, and most of their movies are the typical summer action blockbuster deal. While the game may have been 40% or less action, the film can't be that way if the producers want it to be commercially successful.

  • @Doofe2012 Firstly, games have waaay more action than a movie. Corridor after corridor of baddies that take like hours to kill through. Secondly, i'm not saying cutting down on the action, because there definitely need to be more than 3 high octane action scenes. However, each planet (e.g. Elysium) may need more than just 1 action sequence to tell the whole story on that planet. So each planet ends up having 2-3 battle scenes on it. Then you get 6-9 gunfights, each 4-5 min.

  • @simongenius1 Not in the case of Mass Effect 1. There's a lot more conversation and exposition in that. I agree with you on how they would tell the story on each planet, though.

  • male shep hands down

  • NO! the next video will become a vicious battle of the sexes featuring Hale v.s. Meer fights and both real sexism and people unjustly being judged sexist. That is part of why I would vote for a fist contact war or an origin story for a character other than Shepard, like Joker or Anderson. When Shepard makes his (or her, but I doubt that will happen) first appearance on the big screen people who played ME will inevitably be disappointed. It will never be their Shepard.

  • I think a shepard origin story would be the most interesting, as you can explain the world in which shepard inhabits as he/she grows up, thus avoiding a ton of exposition when the main story begins.

Though personally, I have always thought that mass effect, like most rpgs, would be better served by a television series rather than a film, so as to fully explore each of the characters. It is the characters their interactions and the world which is mass effect's greatest strength, not the story.

  • @simongenius1 i agree with you that there should be a shepard origin story but there is 3 different origins that you can chose between: 1 being that you were raised by military parents on spacechips, not very interesting. 2 you are an orphan raised on the streets in one big city on earth, could be interesting. 3 you lived on a colony which were raided by slavers, which i think is best to make a movie about. and there is shepards pre-service history were you also get 3 very different choices.

  • @slowryd3r In my shep origin script, I picked already. Yea, I picked Colonist background. No one should see Earth till ME3 and been the child of ship captains make Shepard similar to Tali's background, possibly a bit spoilt and lacks character depth. I picked war hero. Ruthless doesn't make sense, especially not for femshep and surviving alone doesn't explain the origin of shep's leadership skills.

  • Male is more familiarized (2007). Default female was just determined a few months ago.

  • Shepard Origin would probably be my pick, but I think ME1 would still be fine. I think the backstory with relays/Turians/reapers could be easily explained. At the start of LOTR they just showed like 5-10 minutes of back story and I'm sure a similar thing could be done. As for Spectres, thats not overly complicated either. Asari being all female? Make Liara and Shepard sex buddies and explain it there. Rachni/genophage don't need a lot of screen time either.

It all comes down to clever writers.

  • @pyder31 Here is a personal challenge. Go and write bit of the script from where Shep needs to find evidence to show Saren's guilty to where Shep succeeds. In that 15 min, you meet volus information broker, tali the quarian on pilgrimage, wrex the krogan mercenary, garrus the turian c-sec officer, Fist the club owner who betrayed the Shadow Broker and decides to work for him somehow. It's probably the most confusing and chaotic scene in ME1, highlights that there are many concepts.
