yeah my teacher told me apparently my year was the last year to study it i find it pathetic the goverment can pull out a play but they dont ban violent tv shows or films which portray violence on a much larger scale than this poem
We Analysed this poem in my english class yesterday, this is porbably the only poem i liked in the anthology book, But, Does Anyone know the name of the song, it adds tension it it...
It is an artist's job to highlight controversial or difficult issues.
Surely it would be much better for teachers to encourage their students to discuss these issues than to pretend that they don't exist.
Students should be credited with enough intelligence to understand the hopelessness and futility of the protagonist's actions, and to respond positively to that theme.
It is disgusting, despicable and medieval that this poem is being removed from the syllabus. Whoever made such a descision has no sense of depth and really they should be taken away and shot.
I for one loved the depth of this work its one of those video's you just have to watch and to me is rather like all creative works from the last few decades a challenge to the norm, after all punk was of the same ilk but far more ranting.
This is well worth watching. Love it or hate it look beyond the negative comments and decide for yourself.

umm... I'm really afraid for the next generation if you can't see why this was removed from the syllabus. It's emo negative crap. There is enough of this garbage in the mainstream media and on youtube without being subjected to it in school as well.
I saw this on BBC news this morning, I can't believe they have taken it of the syllabus! Its completely ridiculous that anyone would think that this poem would turn anyone to 'knife crime'! It was a cowardly decision to remove it just because too many people are afraid to be even remotely 'un-pc'.
I am the producer Joel Cannon, if anyone could post the video of the BBC aired Broadcast i would really appreciate it!, Thank you for your support, If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask,
this is pure poetry it only give to you it time i know i was 1 in 3 million it was how the time's felt to me and many more, more now looking back at it, we dont to act on it.
Just saw this video on the BBC, I can't believed they've started censoring what students can read in schools. plus Peter Sissons seems to think everyone but him is an alabastor retard, too thick to understand things like subtext.
Guys considering this is an English poem your talking about most ,if not all of you need to do something about your spelling, and grammar . Its painful to read !
it's wierd that the protagonist in this vid is male. but carol ann duffy never actually specifies in the poem whether this person is male or female. well in al her poems theres a strong female protagonist. soi think that she must have followed pattern
It was ok, I enjoyed the music, although I didn't like the bit about the autograph, the whole point there is that the character thinks he's more important than he actually is, and expects a reaction from the dole office worker, who gives him none and treats him as another client, that's my understanding of it anyway. Bit disappointed with the goldfish, but the ending was really good

what a shit video, the whole point is is that u dont know whether its a boy or a girl....ur interpreting an ambiguous character from a feminist poet as male, completely missing the point of all her poetry
Excuse me, but i heard first hand from the mouth of Carol Anne Duffy that the character was intended to be male. The poem was written in the 1980's and is partly a reflection on Margret Thatchers Britian.
and so is to bother watching them and commenting on them. god, you must have such a shit life . why dont u go do somehting useful with your life, like this person has.
A group in our GCSE class done something very similar to this but assumed the murderer was female... I ahve to say it wasn't nearly as well done though. Congratualtions!
Good qeustion, however i heard Carol anne duffy do a reading of this poem on an english trip and this question came up. She says she intended this character to be male.
Just as a little question. Was the trip you went on called 'Poetry Live' buy any chance? I went to the Poetry live and thought it was very good and gave the feeling of the poem and just have the poet read it out was very effective and i enjoyed it very much. Good Video iclejoel =D. Keep it up!

Hey how do you like this excerpt from an essay that I had to write in english that 'novelised' the poem?
Moments pass before, finally... the breadknife grabs my eye and, without thought, I grasp its comfortable handle. I open my door. Im not thinking.
Brandishing the knife, I am faced with the world... And one big decision: Who?
