  • not when you use windows movie maker...

  • whats the song on this?

  • @MarryUsCharlieMcdonn Its The Birthday Massacre - Happy Birthday :D one of my favourite songs

  • Wats the music? Were doing this at school. And im meant to be doing a newspaper article about wat happens next! :(

  • Hey how do you like this excerpt from an essay that I had to write in english that 'novelised' the poem?

Moments pass before, finally... the breadknife grabs my eye and, without thought, I grasp its comfortable handle. I open my door. Im not thinking.

Brandishing the knife, I am faced with the world... And one big decision: Who?

  • i love this, my a level english teacher showed it us as a good example of an interpritation, its amazing, i love the band who sing that song too (:

  • we had too watch this in english today lol, i like the soooooong.

  • good but tooo predictable!

  • dahm lol

  • You know, this poem's been pulled from the anthology, apparently, it encourages knife crime...

    =]

  • Yeah and the woman complained it was 'weird and disturbing'

  • this was the only poem i enjoyed in the whole anthology!

  • yeah my teacher told me apparently my year was the last year to study it i find it pathetic the goverment can pull out a play but they dont ban violent tv shows or films which portray violence on a much larger scale than this poem

  • Agreed, this was my favourite Duffy poem, the one we had to study instead, Stealing, was nothing compared to Education For Leisure.

  • love it we watcged it in english and i love the song who is it ? xxx

  • The Birthday Massacre-Happy Birthday

  • I don't get it.

What's the big deal about this poem?

  • Why cut it?

The Cremation of Sam McGee is scarier and the schools love that one.

  • i love this video.

we watched it today in English and all the class could talk about was how great the song is..

Could you please let me know what it is???

    xxx

  • The Birthday Massacre

  • We're the last year to study this poem!

  • Were still using the uncut AQA books, and just to rub it in, I did a poetry report and picked this poem to analyse. FunFunFun.

  • This is such a good video

    The music choice is excellent

    One of my favorite poems

  • This is my favourite poem I was sooo hoping it came up in the exam and now it's been cut from the syllabus =/

  • This was cut from our AQA books :(

  • My year is the last year to study this poem in the AQA book.

This i a great vid, with a hottie in it. great song.

my teacher made us watch it in lesson today.

whatever happened to that girl when she was 16 happened. and its good that people realise the difference between right and wrong.

not that it's okay to kill somebody because 'they dont like mondays'

  • 1:36=win

  • This is an amazing video

  • We Analysed this poem in my english class yesterday, this is porbably the only poem i liked in the anthology book, But, Does Anyone know the name of the song, it adds tension it it...

  • happy birthday by the birthday massacre

  • That was amazing. I love Carol Ann Duffy, and Education for Leisure is one of my favourites. :]

  • It is an artist's job to highlight controversial or difficult issues.

Surely it would be much better for teachers to encourage their students to discuss these issues than to pretend that they don't exist.

Students should be credited with enough intelligence to understand the hopelessness and futility of the protagonist's actions, and to respond positively to that theme.

  • It is disgusting, despicable and medieval that this poem is being removed from the syllabus. Whoever made such a descision has no sense of depth and really they should be taken away and shot.

  • Teehee, I remember making this =D

    lololol

    Good stuff.

    <3

  • I for one loved the depth of this work its one of those video's you just have to watch and to me is rather like all creative works from the last few decades a challenge to the norm, after all punk was of the same ilk but far more ranting.

This is well worth watching. Love it or hate it look beyond the negative comments and decide for yourself.

  • I saw this on BBC news this morning, I can't believe they have taken it of the syllabus! Its completely ridiculous that anyone would think that this poem would turn anyone to 'knife crime'! It was a cowardly decision to remove it just because too many people are afraid to be even remotely 'un-pc'.

  • Hello YouTube Fans,

I am the producer Joel Cannon, if anyone could post the video of the BBC aired Broadcast i would really appreciate it!, Thank you for your support, If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask,

    Regards,

    Joel

  • just see this on the bbc new

this is pure poetry it only give to you it time i know i was 1 in 3 million it was how the time's felt to me and many more, more now looking back at it, we dont to act on it.

  • Just saw this video on the BBC, I can't believed they've started censoring what students can read in schools. plus Peter Sissons seems to think everyone but him is an alabastor retard, too thick to understand things like subtext.

  • Guys considering this is an English poem your talking about most ,if not all of you need to do something about your spelling, and grammar . Its painful to read !

  • lol i watched this in english aswell and oh my god he is soooo fit

  • we watched this in english xD

    great vid - reli helped

    whats the song called?

  • The song is called 'Happy Birthday' by The Birthday Massacre.

  • wats the song called? oh and that video really helped me understand the poem

  • 01:36, u can c elmo on the table lol

  • Yeah helped me. I also have the exam on the 20th

  • this realli helped me! got my exam on the 20th and realli worrid! but thanx it helped!:D (Y)

  • BONTAAAAAAA

  • WATERRRSSS

  • cheers, doing my exam on the 20th!

  • i like it

  • it's wierd that the protagonist in this vid is male. but carol ann duffy never actually specifies in the poem whether this person is male or female. well in al her poems theres a strong female protagonist. soi think that she must have followed pattern

  • It was ok, I enjoyed the music, although I didn't like the bit about the autograph, the whole point there is that the character thinks he's more important than he actually is, and expects a reaction from the dole office worker, who gives him none and treats him as another client, that's my understanding of it anyway. Bit disappointed with the goldfish, but the ending was really good

  • i enjoyed this vid. my english teacher showed me it today. it was effective

  • Excuse me, but i heard first hand from the mouth of Carol Anne Duffy that the character was intended to be male. The poem was written in the 1980's and is partly a reflection on Margret Thatchers Britian.

  • the truth is presented!

  • Yeah I just don't think this guy gets the point of this video.

You done any other GCSE poems? This is good.

  • and so is to bother watching them and commenting on them. god, you must have such a shit life . why dont u go do somehting useful with your life, like this person has.

  • lol. ok. i will abandon my degree and do something useful, like making tacky youtube videos.....

damn, the ammount of souls i could save if only i was smart enough to take your fabulous advice....thank you father :)

  • same can be said for you buddo!

  • Needed more thought put into it

im doing this, but studied more, and not using pictures of goldfish found on google.

  • it makes u understand more

  • what the song

  • A group in our GCSE class done something very similar to this but assumed the murderer was female... I ahve to say it wasn't nearly as well done though. Congratualtions!

  • good interpretation of the text, what made you assume that the killer was male .....??

  • Well, i'm not sure! i have always interpreted the Murder was male!

  • Good qeustion, however i heard Carol anne duffy do a reading of this poem on an english trip and this question came up. She says she intended this character to be male.

  • Just as a little question. Was the trip you went on called 'Poetry Live' buy any chance? I went to the Poetry live and thought it was very good and gave the feeling of the poem and just have the poet read it out was very effective and i enjoyed it very much. Good Video iclejoel =D. Keep it up!

  • thx also help me with my english , btw the music matches the theme well

  • really like this has helped me remember for my english lit exam thanks:)

  • Beautifully done. +++

    The Birthday Massacre are awesome.
