  • Is that John singing lead vocal on this?

  • actually the first solo is JOHN ON HIS RIC,The 2nd solo is GEORGE,john did a lot of solos in hamburg you can here the tone of the 325 RIC,alot here, great playing RAW ENERY!!!!

  • How could you possibly know that?

Maybe you're thinking of "Roll over Beethoven" where the 2 solos are played by John and then George.

  • well i play a 325 ric,i know the tone of the guitar, and i know johns playing very well, just listen to the other solo, your hear the different tone of georges guitar and your hear the same kind of lick that george even did on the record version of the song,a lick he used a lot, example like in long tall sally, john does the first solo, which is more rythm like and george does the 2nd solo.john also does a lot of solos on the bbc recordings a lot more than he gets cerdit for.listen to distinct tone

  • @chokonudemailno, he doesn't do much solos on the bbc tapes, he has some, but if you have the complete bbc tapes george#s amount of solos dwarfes johns, and john only played solos in the early cover days, only beatles song he played solo on live was during you can't do that.

  • listen to the 325 in the treble pick up postition with the tone cut half way, that was johns sound.

  • listen at the begining of the song john starts it,listen when the solo comes you wont hear it,cause hes doing the solo, then when george does his solo you can clearly hear the 325 playing that rythm bro.

  • Yeah, after I sent my first comment I listened again and I realized you were right, for all those reasons. You da man. Or person, whatever ;-)

BTW - can George's 'solo' really be called a solo? It sounds like nothing compared to John's.

  • yeh john kick ass, later he would george do most of the solo, cause then what would george do?theres a funny little piece of recording when phil spector was producing him in 74,where john just want to play chuck berry songs in the studio, like a happy child he keeps saying i know the solo for johnny b goode, but then he says aw but what will Tex,do,so ill let him play the solo!same kinda thing happens with george.while phil kept complaining come on john do your song then ill let you do all the

  • @chokonudemail

George did most of the solos during their hamburg era days, not without a reason was he their lead guitarist from 58 onwards, but during the 8 hours a night time john also played some solos.

but george is, as always, way better than john on the guitar, nothing against johnny he#s great, but no match for georgie boy.

  • the chuck berry songs you want too.John loved Chuck Berry and knew a lot of the solos.

  • I have a 360 from '67.

  • cool wow 360 from 67,does it have the toaster pick ups or the new ones, cause the tone changed a lot with the new pick ups? i have a 325,v64,with the toaster pick ups, telecaster blond and grestch country gentleman 67 and play them with my beat up AC30.KEEP ROCKIN BRO,CHECK OUT MY PAGE YOU CAN HEAR MY BAND.THE KLAXXICS

  • Toasters! You betcha. I played it through a Vox in a band for 8 years. Don't ask me what model the Vox was ;-)

I'll check out your page. I'm envious of your Ric.

  • @marvy1118

roll over beethoven is entirely george.

  • @OropherThranduil Yep. I'd meant to type 'Long Tall Sally' but I had a brain-fart I guess.

  • OK - you are right. I take it back. On second listen, John's Rhythm guitar cuts out pretty much during the first solo but stays strong during the second solo.

    All hail chokonudemail!!

  • The Beatles do rock harder, faster and dirtier than anyone before them on this record, but it is also illustrates why Pete Best was given the boot. The drumming is god awful -sloppy and out of time - on this album. Even a perfect recording wouldn't have cut the mustard as a result, even with the vicious guitars and frenetic vocal performances. I don't think the Beatles were signed at this juncture, anyway.

  • what part of '62 is this concert?

  • Wasn't this recorded after Ringo joined the group ?

  • @subg88 The recording of this show in Hamburg was recorded in December of 1962 and Ringo Starr is the drummer here on all these cuts. If the drumming sounds sloppy its because they were playing to a room full of drunk Germans.

  • And no doubt the band is drunk also.

  • @subg88

6th June 1962 they got their contract.

they had the tony sheridan single out at the time and also their first own one, love me do/ ps i love you.

  • This version of matchbox is by far much better then the studio version recorded 2-years later at EMI. The lead guitar break by George Harrison is raw and powerfull and really packs a punch. This show should have been recored live by EMI. If so, it would have been one of the best live recordings of a rock band ever in the History of Rock and Roll. What a shame it was recored on a cheap reel to reel. Better then no recording at all I guess.

  • I agree the New Year's Eve recording (the parts that are authentic) of the Beatles was among their many performances. If you can get a chance check out their complete BBC recordings. George was on fire in some solos. The ones George Martin chose for the 94 sound more like the disc he would later record.. Also playing live on swedish TV show Drop in show still has them at the top of their live performance.s

  • @Renshen1957

right, swedish is a hell of a performance, and also their one of bbc live before audience rsession where they played a smoking version of i saw her standing there, there they also were on fire, george's the wildest ever during the 62-63 era.
