Hmmm...I seem to remember reading a somewhat different story : McKay was a big fan of Jimmy Page and sent him a reel to reel of the McKay Quintet doing "Train", Page sent them back the tape with his guitar dubbed in.
Scotty toured with the Yardbirds in 1966 after Beck was fired (breakdown) and recorded his version of TKaR with several of the Yardbirds. This is probably why the Yardbirds were listed as composers, he was not good on checking facts and probably wanted to list them on the record, but could not due to their contractual obligations.
Yeah, why are the Yardbirds credited on the 45? It's a Tiny Bradshaw song. Anyway thhis is a pretty cool version among the many.

TKaR was composed in 1951 by Tiny Bradshaw, Howard Kay, and Lois Mann.
