  • oh! thai, please stop. this's real khmer. they r original on this show. go to argue on other shows.

  • it would be so memorable if all the thai laos and khmers are combined to dance together!

  • thankyou for liking cambodia,I was born there it is very beautiful

  • Beautiful dancing and music! Caambodia and Thailand are very similar in many ways. You should be like brothers, support and care for each other.

  • i'm thai people and respect Khmer too. we r same culture . and nearly area . i like cambodia so much . and i hope thai and Khmer better soon . i want us to be friendship same the part . i don't want the war . u know !! in the world . humman different about habit . so a few people make us to be estranged only the words and speech .... between us love and love for friendship love u cambodia

  • Sasagawa mentions Groslier's acknowledgement of Siamese performers in the royal dance troupe and also mentions Norodom Sihanouk claim that the Siamese 'taught Cambodia it's lost art form which they had preserved after sacking Angkor,' however, Sasagawa notes that the Siamese innovations (such as the story of Inao, an adaptation of the Malay version of Panji ) were not present in the Angkorian dance tradition

  • @kikuyaki that sounds really interesting

  • wow beautiful dance !!!

I'm from Europe and I'm realy in Love with Khmer Cultur I visit Thailand and Vietnam but for me Khmer Cultur is most interesting and most beautiful

  • This is very similar to Indian Classical dances

  • ผมเชื่อว่าท่ารำนี้เป็นของเขมร ไม่มีอะไรต้องเถียงอีกต่อไป

  • yep, unproductive and being brain washed by Thai movies. This is not good for the country of Cambodia at all.

  • those who watch thai movies in khmer, should just move to live in Thailand, they don't help or appreciate his/her own culture. Those are the unproductive khmer people. Think about it, what some of the bad thai soldiers did to khmer people along the borders

  • @viraklong1975 Even though a Khmer person watches Thai movies does not mean that they should just go live in Thailand. That's like saying just because you watch American movies means that you should go live in America. Movies and Wars are two separate things. One is an entertainment while the other is a political reason. Yes, I think it's wrong that the Thai people have killed many innocent Khmer people, but it doesn't mean that you have to hate Thai people or dislike their culture that bad.

  • @AnitaxBeezy That's just discriminating against them. I'm Khmer and was raised in the Khmer culture. Although I live in America and I do watch Thai Dramas and what not does not mean that I don't appreciate my culture. I love every little bit about the Khmer culture and heritage. You can't just go off saying that Khmer people who watch Thai movies "don't help or appreciate his/her own culture. Those are the unproductive khmer people." This really is my point of view of this, just saying.

  • Stfu and watch the video, thats reason why it's here so stop complaining and grow up btw I'm Khmer so don't fucking hate on it pussy ass cunts

  • If a student of history Siam me know what was actually once belonged to Cambodia, Thailand. We are brothers, but with time the colonial British, French, Thai, Khmer and waste land of the island 6 island to France. Therefore, we have similar cultures, it's not surprising. Local History and Thailand. Refer to the stone inscriptions and records, which are in the National Archives. But also take Inscription on the temple with Si Song Rak

  • ฉันเกลียดเขมร

  • Hahaha, I have no hate toward Thai people but for those who claim that Khmer culture stole or copy Thai "so-called original" beautiful traditional dance or culture, you really need to study the real ancient history of both Thai and Khmer it's really the other way around. Just saying.

  • Khmer hate.

  • This is not a thai dance we have videos of the apsara dance since 1940 princess bopah devi apsara dance. Where's your thailand proof? B.s you dnt even know the meaning of these dances u just move to muic. Copy cat

  • I'm Khmer with mixture of other backgrounds. I grew up thinking I was only Khmer, but realized there are other mixture in me and learned to embrace the other cultures as well. I hope that people learn to respect one another. I believe our culture incorporated some spirituality and can never NEVER be immitated. Khmer classical dance is not only art, but it also tells a story. You can feel the meanings behind it. That's what makes it more than just entertainment!!

  • Khmer classical dance is a very beautiful derivation of the Natya Shastra...one can find traces of Indian classical dance forms like Manipuri, BharataNatyam, Odissi, Kuchipudi, Mohini Attam and even Kathakali in the choreography...

  • Welcome to the Jungle......."Gun and Roses"

  • Where's the bukkaki?

  • I would love to see the rest of the performance ... so sad it is cut short.

  • the girls are so beautiful

  • i am half-thai and half-javanese. i respect and love all the rich cultures of south east asia. khmer people is very closely related to malay and javanese people.

  • Im Thai and I like khmer traditional dance

    :)

  • I appreciate the way you dance is beautiful. And tep apsara is your dance so stop saying you steal from me I steal from you bla bla bla. Because we share the same culture. As some body said that " You(I mean thai) don't know our history" and so do, You don't know thai history either. What we talking is about Arts , Arts have no owner and arts is not about copy.

  • @aescom

I´m Khmer and I respect Thais but not all thais on Youtube are smart and talk only shit about Khmer. I hope Cambodia and Thailand live together in peace

  • @Khmer96pride Thank you and not all Khmer on youtube are smart and talk shin about thai also

  • Comment removed

  • @Khmer96pride i hope so =)

  • Really I've never knew that you got a dance like this because The best thing that you can do is copy. I won't say that you steal from thai and you know what even the costume of the musicians is thai in the period of king rama the fifth called "Raja Pattern" and a few day ago I just saw korean cover from khmer and many many of Korean or even thai songs that you copy us. Stop! Copy and maybe I'll believe you

  • @aescom If you want to know where the original came from, you only have to look at the Apsara carving on the wall of Angkor Wat which was built centuries ago. If you want to know where the musician custome came from, look at Chinese suit, all of us just modified it to be our own. Thai and Khmer arts might look similar, but if you observe the details, we are very different, including the custumes. There are good and bad people everywhere, if we concentrate on positive, we will get along fine.

  • @sivhengu thank you for your comment and of cause I know we're different in detail ^^

  • @aescom Best wishes to all

  • @aescom OMG we copy you thais please sound more like u thais copy khmer...khmer people have proof and that from angkorwat temple carving do u thais peep have it nope yal got no temple beside khmer temple yal took. the ends!

  • @kmycherry Sorry sir ,even the way you wear dance skirt, it didn't look like the sculpture at angkorwat at all.

  • wow khmer traditional dance is so beautiful and it looks so difficult to dance. You need to have great balance and flexibility. It is by far better than thai, lao or hmong dance. The technical aspect of it... They are similar but I can tell that khmer dance really inspired other south east asia countries. No offense...

  • @puggie11 khmer dance is about sign languages. There are more than 5000 signs if you observe. Every movement means something from head to toes. This make Khmer dance unique and different from other that have similar dances.

  • @sivhengu

there was much more signs but the Khmer Rouge destroy much Documents and much Apsara dancers was killed by them

  • @Khmer96pride I gree with you. It's very interesting to watch how they dance. I didn't pay much attention when I was younger, 8 or 9 when I saw the performances in Cambodia (1960), I appreciate it now and more than before very proud of what we have, a unique art!

  • @ThaiforallThais

    He sounds very jealous

  • @Khmer96pride He's just another racist who can't appreciate other cultures and look at how we suffered so much during the war and after the war.

  • @Khmer96pride The language he uses sound cheaper than the beggar!!!!!!

  • they look like goddesses

  • @ThaiforallThais those aspara look better then your ugly cone head dancers

  • I Love my Homeland Cambodia and I Love our Beatiful Khmer Cultur.

Khmer Pride Till I Die !!!

  • /my little cousin justin is so obssed with khmer blessing danecs and khmer classical dances its so freken funny!

  • Im Khmer and all I want to say I<3their dances.!

  • you are dark because you are related to African, I am real khmer and all family have white skin and proude. And I also see millions of other cambodians are white skin just like me. Also, most VietKong people think that khmer are dark. I have seen dark vietkong as well. The fact is that some are darker or lightter, but please don't say khmer are dark. I am offended by whoever you are think Khmer people are black or dark.

  • the combination of arts n cultures between India n china create unique culteurs. farewell then

  • The etymology of cambodias founder came from north india. founders name was kamboja they named it kampeachea and then later changed it to cambodia. Khmers still believe in Hanuman and pray to vishnu and buddha because cambodia was once a hindu nation people wonder why we are dark because really some khmers are indian blooded until the chinese came to srok khmer. My father is indian and mom is khmer so I know my history pretty well. Also cambodia derived from the sanskrit.

  • @earth2dawit Hindu were white Persian mixed with southern(dark). and Ramayana was a historical of war between white and dark. ..haha !! Khmer were dark because they are the southern Indian...hahah

  • who's the lead dancer?

  • the lead dancer is in White attire

  • In this video the lead dancer is Miss Keo bora. She is also singer!

  • Did the khmer people invent the xylophone ?

  • yes!

  • @Seulcoeurbrise No, Khmer invented water...with out Khmer everyone would die..haha

  • lyric please...the rhythm is totally unique..

  • lol. i'm not talking about who created lao and thai. WE are talking about you bashing indian culture. u should give india some credit. apsara itself is an indian word. i'm gonna stop now. i feel like i am talking to a wall.

  • I am not bashing Indian culture.

    I owned Indian culture because

my ancestors were Indian and Khmer.

  • apsara is sansrit not indian. Yes we share indian culture. Khmer called Apsara is apsar but french come and called it apsara.

  • lol. and where do you think Sanskrit cam from?

  • Sanskrit is an Indo- European language that is not necessarily "from" India. the Aryan nomads that spoke the language came from central Asia thousands of years ago.

  • im pretty sure u got that info from wiki. i think u missed this excerpt: "the original speakers of what became Sanskrit arrived in what is now India and Pakistan from the north-west some time during the early second millennium BCE". my point is... sanskrit was in india way before making its way into southeast asia. in addition to khmers, laotians and thais also use sanskrit in religious ceremonies today.

  • @naruto10119

that is so incorrect!sanskrit was the base of what is today called "indian culture".Plus the aryan invasion throey that you speak of has been proved wrong, despite it bing provided by the vedas.true, it did come from the north west of india, but sanskrit as an organised language is essentially indian.Panini was the 1st human to organise the rules for a language, which was sanskrit.

  • Thanks for the info. But, was Tamil an existing language in any form before the Aryan "migration" from the north west so to speak? From what I've read, Tamil seems to be the more authentic language of India because of Mohenjo-Daro, or has this been proven wrong? I do relate more to Sanskrit, and it much more widely used than Tamil throughout Asia.

  • 1st of all- The script of indus valley civilisation- to which the Mohenjo-Daro belongs to, has not been decrypted, and has nothing to do with dravidian languages, oldest of which remains tamil.

  • An yes, it has been cited that probably most of the indian subcontinent spoke different forms of dravidian languages, as there exists a very small group of dravidian language speakers in north west(today pakistan). But there also exists a whole village in extremely south of india where people speak sanskri as their 1st language.

  • And clearly if the theory of indo european language speakers(early sanskrit) came from north west, they must have arrived during indus valley civilisation, when clearly a different language was spoken.Sanskrit gained momentum n spread in the indian subcontinent during the vedic period when it was made more sophesticated, and it was during this period that it affected other dravidian languages, slowly spreading from north india.

  • present day land that people call "India" has actually 3 families of language- indo european(followers of sanskrit) dravidian(to which tamil belongs) and sino tibetean(part of which is also all the sour east asian languags)the difference is all o these are written in indic script,(including in south east asia), though they may look extremely different in script. All other indian languages, including tamil has been extremely influenced by sanskrit, maybe even more than SE asian languages.

  • simoneeka, are you aware that the epic ballet ramayana (also performed by khmer, lao, and thai) is originally from India? do you think that THAT is too sexy??? i think you're just focusing on Indian FOLK dance and modern Bollywood dance, and you have yet to see true classical Indian dance.

  • Lao and Thai created by Khmer.

I'm not talking about epic, I'm talking about the Apsara dances.

  • @Simoneeka

Majority of indian classical dances, esecially bharatnatyam is supposed to be apsara dances for your kind information.and these dances predate Khmer

  • D4mathur, Khmer is Indian and Indian is Khmer, go learning the word HERITAGE!!!!!

  • I am not saying that this dance is bad, infact I personally love this dance more than many indian classical dances. But i am proving the same point. If you really want to learn the meaning of the word heritage that you speak of then try lookin for different indian dances, like oddisi, manipuri, bharatnayam, satriya, kathak etc..Each is absolutely different from the other yet similar in the same way as other of this common culture that runs through south east asia.

  • @D4Mathur

Khmer have Indian HERITAGE because the Khmer Kings were originated Indian and Khmer owned whatever Indian have and Khmer don't have to dance like Indian oddisi, manipuri, bharatnayam, satriya, kathak etc..

  • @Simoneeka Pleace brother, just shut up!I am not saying that they should or need to dance like other indian dance.I never ever said anything like that! The europeans made these oundaries, or otherwise, all is but one culture. All I was pointing out that you were wrong to say that apsara is something only khmer speak of and not the rest of the Indian culture!

  • @D4Mathur

I will shut up only you can prove me that you are right.

Queen Kossamak and Princess Bopha Devi, the mothers of Khmer Apsara dance.

Go asking Khmer who is King Kaudinya, Queen Soma,

Queen Mera and King Kambu and get back to me.

  • @Simoneeka I dont know why I am replying to thins, but i am not going to do it the next time. You are just here to pick up a fight over nothing.I never said anything against Khmer culture, but you seem to wish to feel so.And for your kind information, I don know about each one of them.I was actually studying the fate of kingdoms of epic India when i came across Kambhoj. And I was really flabergasted about Khmer culture and that is why I am here loooking at khmer ballet.

  • @Simoneeka And I also do know about Princess Bhopa devi and how she introduced Khmer ballet to cambodians and the world, which was originally open only to the gods and royalty!I was interested in khmer and cambodian people and have been reading about them since a long time, but it seems you are not happy with that fact.

  • Queen Kossamak was just following King Sisowath who introduced Khmer royal ballet dance to France and the world in 1906.

The famous French artist Auguste Rodin felt in love with the young Khmer royal dancers, he painted so many Khmer royal dancers and exposed them in his Museum Auguste Rodin in Paris today.

  • @D4Mathur, you are wrong. Its not Princess Bopha Devi introducing Khmer royal ballet to Cambodia and the world. Princess Bopha Devi was just chosen to become a Khmer royal ballet dancer by her grand mother Queen Kossamak.

  • @Simoneeka Hell!I am not here to prove anything! And anyway, what the hell am i supposed to prove!?!

  • @D4Mathur keep the word Hell for yourself.

You are here to fake Khmer culture because you don't know Khmer culture and you can't prove what you claimed for.

  • @Simoneeka I was also pointing out that you speak of authority of heritage, but without ever understanding the fact that tody India is but many indian cultures joined together, each with it's own classical and folk dance and musicand just looking at bollywood dances, you called something called "Indian dance" as "sexy"!That was seriously ignorant!

  • @D4Mathur

I called Indian dance sexy comparing to this Khmer dance. The ignorant is you.

Khmer King and Khmer Queen wouldn't let Khmer girls dancing like Indian girls jumping up and jumping down in front of them. The Cambodia Royal University of Fine Arts teach Khmer girl dancers not to walk fast, so don't expect Khmer dancer to jump up and jump down like Indian girl dancer, its not appropriate for Khmer custom.

  • @Simoneeka WTF!!!Have you ven ever seen any of those dances?!Do you know anything about Manipuri dance? In manipuri dance non performers are not even allowed to touch the costume, as they are considered sacred!

  • WTF YOURSELF D4Mathur !!!

Stay on topic, you are here on Khmer classical dance, you got to answer to my Khmer question before telling me to look at other topic.

  • @Simoneeka The problem is that you see "india" as one unit and one culture. But the thing is the real "Indian" culture actually is just the gangetic basin and the indus basin, half of which is in Pakistan today, being destroyed by muslims as they don't consider it their culture.

  • @D4Mathur, the problem is you making the false about Khmer because you don't know Khmer history, you don't know Khmer wedding story and you don't know Khmer heritage.

  • @Simoneeka Just like khmer people translated this vedic culture in their form, many other dravidian cultures translated in theirs and norhteasterns in their. The English united some of these cultures, which you people today know s "India".

  • @D4Mathur, Khmer Kings were originated Indian from India. So Khmer owned Indian heritage. It is you the one don't understand the word heritage. If my father is Indian and my mother is Khmer, I own both Indian heritage and Khmer heritage automatically and no one has the right telling me about my heritage because no one know me better than myself.

  • He he, the SE asian cultures of Burma, Thailand, laos, Camboia and Indonesia owe a lot to Indian culture. This includes dance and music as well as the Idea of kingship and the court. The food od SE Asia is also Indian based. The Cambodians (or Khmer) were the original people of the area and had a huge kingdom. The Thai came from southern China and finally overthrew the Khmer. Everyone has borrowed back and forth from each other for centuries.

  • You seem to not know the trading relationships between India, Cambodia and Vietnam in those ancient days. Reason why Robam Apsara is heavily inspired by Indian influences is because it is Cambodian Thought, of an Indian Tale. No because it borrowed the Culture.

  • @NikkiSavella

My dear friend ,you must be seriously confused not to hvae any knowledge about carvings and myths in south India. These are hindu temples of ancient India that were not detroyed by Muslim kings of norhtern India, n they still retain the carvings full of apsara.Apsara are not Cambodian thought for your kind information as they already appear in rig veda and mahabharat much before hinduism reached Cambodia.

  • Ummmm I know that. These Dances were inspired by Indian Folklore and myth. Mainly Hinduism. So you need not say further. :)

  • @NikkiSavella Sorry,I am not here to pick a fight, but only to enjoy Khmer classical dance. But yet I seem to end up in fights.

  • @D4Mathur

You are not here to enjoy Khmer classical dance, all your comments here are making the false story of Khmer culture.

  • Comment removed

  • OMG this is known as elegance. Lots of love from INDIA.

  • same dance as indian?

  • Exactly! The world Apsara is very famous in India which means a beautiful Lady from heaven. Moreover our ancient texts are filled with the stories of Apsaras. What a coincidence. Love you a lot.

  • Indian dance is beautiful, but it's too sexy.

The Khmer King and the Khmer Queen did not want Khmer dance sexy as Indian, that's why Khmer dance is beautiful, but slow.

  • sexy dance means??

  • Sexy dance means is not appropriate for the Khmer girls to dance jumping up and down like the Indian dance.

Khmer girls must be serene and be appropriate.

  • I think you are not aware of Indian classical dance that is why you are saying that in Indian Classical dance you have to jump up and down. I am talking of bharatnatyam, manpuri, odissi etc etc....... try some search in you tube with these names you will clarify all your doubts about serenity of Indian classical dance!!!!!

  • Dont get me wrong, I love Indian dance as much as Khmer dance.

But my point is to explain the reason why Khmer dance is slower than Indian dance? Because Khmer dance is dance only for God and for the Khmer King & Khmer Queen not for the entertainment in the ancient time.

But today, there is an argument about Khmer dance at the restaurant and the question is, is it appropriate to perform Khmer dance at the restaurant?

  • Its OK simoneeka. But the idea of Khmer at a restaurant is not a good Idea at all. Classical dances are something like divine and should be admired at a respectful place, I strongly agree with you.

  • @Simoneeka

What you are looking at are either bollywood dances or folk dance.they are quite old dances n were meant for celebration.if you want real indian dances search for bharatnatyam, mohiniattam, odisi, manipuri. All of these were danced for gods, n only inside temples.

  • because of your arrogant behavior I am removing my good words uttered about khmer. Simoneeka I don't know what you want to prove??? I am keep on praising about khmer and you are keep on proving that indian dances are not seren??? strange!!!!!!

  • Thank you Birampur, I think you misunderstand my point.

  • too sexy huh? i think this dance is beautiful and i love khmer people, but have u seen the ancient khmer temple carvings with topless apsaras and not to mention the crazy sex positions?!

  • Indian dance is too sexy look like the show girl dance in Hollywood.

In the ancient time people dont know how to cover up themselves yet the same as Apsara, have you seen Adam and Eve ever cover them up?

  • Indian Classical Dances are no where sexy but much much difficult than Khmer. Moreover Khmer very much resemble with the odissi dance.

  • Indian dance jump up on the left and on the right like the show girl dance and it is not appropriate for God and it is not for the Khmer King ad the Khmer Queen.

  • Most Indian dances, such as Baranatayam were originally performed for the gods and the gods only, they lived inside the temples and did not jump up and down like Bollywood. they were very graceful and divine, not "sexy" as you say.

  • Yes, they do. Watch the Indian Ramayana dance, they jump up and down and they even wear pant under sari.

  • @Simoneeka

thats called ramleela, and in present day india, all dances or lord Ram are only performed in folk dances, or only opera type kathakali, kotiyattom and yakshagana, which are completely different genre of classical indian dances.YOu might want to try manipuri, but they always depict lord krishna, not ram.

  • D4mathur, This is called Robam Tep Apsara and Apsara were created from the Churning milk and Cambodia is the son of the Khmer King KAMBU from INDIA.

Cambodia owned Indian heritage in Cambodia because the father was Indian.

  • The Indian dance for God I saw jump up and down and they dance very fast too.

  • no. more like Indian Inspired. This is an Indian Story expressed through Khamer Views of the story of an Aspara. :-D

  • thailand sucks

  • Very nice costumes. Love it. Thanks for posting--deepa

  • beautiful! upload the whole video please.

  • no me i love being Khmer more than anyone i go to the temple every week
