The comment on the video said "Possibly July 1985, not sure". This video must have been no later than 1981. I recognize the site as the Rothvoss farm, near Hillsdale or Copake NY, where the Berkshire Mo...untains festival was held until 1981. The banner behind the stage clearly identifies it as the Berkshire Mountains Festival. There was a big feud, and a new group held successful festivals at the Rothvoss farm, titling them the Winterhawk (now Grey Fox) Festival.
Nancy Talbot, who had run all of the Berkshire Mountains Festivals, was forced to move her festivals, first to Cooperstown, then Duanesburg, near Schenectady NY. Nancy went out of business after the 1985 festival. Nancy had a close personal relationship with John Duffey, so as long as Nancy was running festivals, we (the Seldom Scene) played for Nancy. By 1986, she was out of business and we played for Winterhawk Fest.
That's Phil Rosenthal. He wrote that song. Doctor John Starling was the original lead singer / guitarist who left the group to specialize in "eye, wear, nose, throat and wallet." Starling has been back a few times when the Scene changed lead singers. He also produced the Dolly, EmmyLou, and Linda album. Last I heard Phil Rosenthal is the State Troubador of Connecticut and produces his own family recordings. Ben Eldridge (banjo) is the last original member still performing with the Scene.
That is Phil - I believe at that time Phil Rosenthal was the main singer of Seldom Scene, so he is included in "The Seldom Scene." The "with John Starling" applies to Starling's appearance in other songs from this set.
There will never be another album like 'Live From the Cellar Door.'
