There's a reason it's called Martial "ART". It's not only a killer technique. That's why some people, let's say Bruce Lee say it's impractical in a real fight.
by the way the chain punch performed in this animation is horrible. the punches drop downwards before each contact, when they should go upwards uprooting the opponent. the timing of elbow seems to be the biggest problem. his elbow is not behind the power for maximum push power, but rather his forearm/wrist area performs most of the motion swinging the fist downwards. also he's leaning forward a lot. shitty job from the animation team makes it look ridiculous
bruce lee was just a heavy strenght stacker in my eyes...he didnt like wing chun cause it didnt focuse on killing your friggen opponent in one hit (ahem...the two inch punch) martial arts arnt ment to kill..honestly
it misses the most important part of the punch (which is so typical of the wing chun punch) it has a downward kinda snapping movement with your fist. Sorry for the bad explanation, english is not my first language.
Wing Chun sucks, because you are to stacionar. You are unable to move fast (change distance) with unnatural footwork. Wing Chun sucks because you are keeping your hands at chest level, so if you make one misstake you get punched in face. Thats why boxers keep theyr hands up. By holding your hands at chest level, you are not covering anything, therefore giving your opponent many targets. Wing Chun sucks, because they dont use maximum potential power for punches and kicks, like muay thay.
@TheBallKeeper obviously you don't know what wing chun is. if wing chun sucks then bruce lee sucks too. power btw is not what it needs to take someone down. no martial arts technique sucks, it's the one using wrong who sucks. /watch?v=6LhRIk_yCQU
@TheBallKeeper Are you being seroiuse?? you clearly dont know how easy it is to move around someone from one block to a dozen attacks all in one go. boxers holding there hands up are only exposing their whole lower part of the the body . you dont need maximum power for a punch if your close enuf to the person one straight punch to the face is just as hard as a hook punch. in order to use max power your letting your guard down and throwing your head forwards
@kinstar "boxers holding there hands up are only exposing their whole lower part" I just laughted so hard. I even willl stop talking with you, because person who can say something like this is simply not knowledged in boxing. You have 0 understanding about like everything. go do some research. travel to different trainers. aaa fck u. Im not wasting my time on someone who even dont know basics, while I wated to go in advance.
@TheBallKeeper Yes i am if your hands are up whats covering your lower part ehhhh???? you idiot if you have your hands up covering your head i can easily attack your lower part of the body if you had your hands up thinking im gonna throw you a punch i could easily come in and knee you then follow that through with an elbow to the head and you wouldn’t even know what to do.
@TheBallKeeper nooo ppl like you think everyone fights the same, dont know what there talking about. In that case go to a wing chun trainer and he’ll make u look like a fool. Also learn how to type you fool fix up your grammar you idiot. yeh dont waste your own time with your bullshit and get some education and learn the basics of typing and grammar you kid.
@TheBallKeeper I wouldn't say that because anyone who does Wing Chun goes to a boxing arena and shows their footwork, people will say they have great footwork. And also, boxing is more of a game than it is a fighting in real life, where Wing Chun is an actual SYSTEM which has its practical uses. Thus, you can't really argue when the point of boxing is for entertainment where as Wing Chun is a systematical martial arts in which you can use in real life.
@TheBallKeeper Also, Bruce lee, who is a wing chun practitioner proved that you don't have to pull back your punches to generate power. With his 1 in. Punch, he can kill someone, thus proving the power theory of yours and the reason why you must have your hands chest level is because you CAN cover everything that you need to. Wing Chun is mostly trapping, subduing, etc. Its not BLOCKING, you deflect. So by having your hand chest level, you can simply deflect any direct hit in necessary range
@yuske185 actually this theory is not mine but bruces. When he left wc, he told that wc is far from being perfect. He sed, that wc footwork is not practical from fast moving. He sed, that wc stance gives to many openings for your oponent and he sed that wc dont use maximum potential damage in punches/kick so fck you. You did not even know that. Like I sed you dont know even basics. I bet you dont even know how bad it is to give openings to your oponent. You dont know nothing!!!
@TheBallKeeper First, I would recommend you to study your grammar a little further. Second, Bruce Lee created his own "form" of martial arts which derived from wing Chun. When he returned to his master, thinking that he was better with his JKD, he got his ass kicked. Furthermore, there are three main stances you use in WC, two are mainly for training and side stance is very practical in RL. Lastly, you are quoting someone else's opinion which makes you a very stupid person without an opinion.
@TheBallKeeper As for your "wc stance gives to many openings for your oponent and he sed that wc dont use maximum potential damage in punches/kick so fck you", All I have to say: If you have never learned WC and have applied the concepts in your sparring and fights, dont say that & I noticed you keep saying "He sed They sed", why not "I learned"? So go learn your answers with real research. Bruce Lee accepted that JKD Is just propaganda. And I suggest you to stop derailing from the actual topic
While Bruce Lee started with Wing Chun, he criticized it saying it is too theoretical, restrictive and impractical in a real fight. Thats why he introduced Jeet kune do which depart from the "form" of Wing Chun.
Every one keeps saying that he advocated Wing Chun, which is simply not true. Read up on Jeet June Do and you will see
No he does us his own martial arts style Jeet kun do. because Wing Chun has lots of weaknesses and if your opponent know them, a wing chun fighter is easy to defeat. I also do Wing chun and know this.
@MidnightStar1000 I heard memories one of his students. Guy told about beimo between Bruce and karateka. Bruce used wing chun. 'Wing Chun has lots of weaknesses'- lineage is important and most important thing- fighter in every style must have balls
Heard? I read the writen Interview and he uses his own style. Theinterviewer was his wife. i think your sifu told you some lies, becuase the western WCO want only your money and telling lots of stories about Bruce Lee. My Sifu also told me this and other trash, that wasn't true and tell me everytime, that a good ing chun fighter must give lots of money for the club.
@stmak8 That's untrue. He didn't criticize Wing Chun. Jeet Kune Do was a fighting philosophy built on core wing chun principles. He wanted to be more well rounded and adapt other styles he may have found more comfortable as he felt a true fighter should be dell versed in many different styles. He actually did Wing Chun quite a bit in his movies including Enter the Dragon. That and Bruce Lee was not a Wing Chun master as Ip Man refused to teach the final forms of Wing Chun to Bruce.
@stmak8 You gotta remember we didn't go straight from spears to atomic weapons, the only reason we can see so far is because we stand "on the shoulders of giants". Its cumulative.
@goldtogreysmoke it's alll good, but not as simplistic. if u look at evolution it doesn't aim for one top, one ultimate perfection. such thing doesn't exist in this world. instead it branches out to different directions, each with their own perfections. this better describes the world and mankind's achievements. now apply this to martial arts and u'll get that there's different ideologies behind different styles. each with it's specific methods of fighting, each with it's unique perfections
@stmak8 Yes its impractical and restrictive, thats why he created something or created some philosophy to fight without limitations, a way of expressing yourself in combat
@BlindingAnime not all wing chun practitioners think it as restrictive as bruce did. i hear many sifus who emphasize it's flexibility to become truely ur own style in the end. but before creating it into something of ur own wing chun first teaches u correct form. because if one is let to express himself too early he'll end up doing stupid things and lose any fight. my previous teacher said it well "first learn it, then forget it". or... first u become wing chun stylist, then wing chun becomes u
@stmak8 Bruce Lee was taught Siu Nim Tau, Chum Kiu, and 3/8 of the Wooden Dummy Section. He developed Jeet Kune Do, because he not was taught Biu Tze. If you knew anything about Wing Tsun, there would be no need to explain further.
@J3YB33 what is ur point with the lack of learning biu tze form? it's a form that looks at wing chun from outside of wing chun. a form u would never need. bruce already had a pretty good understanding of wing chun system. all wooden dummy form teaches u is additional techniques, some of which u will practise with partner instead anyway. anything done with dummy should be practised with a partner (much better than with a dummy, which is just a substitute to real person).
@J3YB33 correct. Which makes sense because Lee Jun Fan was good at fencing not to mention a champion at Cha cha. That explains all the great footwork.
@stmak8 but do u know who was his teacher of wing chun? wong shun leung (under ip man's supervise only), who's also an ex boxer among other things. his teacher had an unbeaten reputation as a fighter in challenge matches. as bruce learnt more about other styles, judo etc he also became fond of their methods. yet he never abandoned wing chun and go to any jeet kune do school and u'll be sure to practise methods of wing chun. bruce just wanted to make it more practical, something of his own u know
@stmak8 actually smart ass Bruce Lee based some of the fighting philosophy on wing chun including the center line and also try rapid attacks wing chun and also Bruce Lee said all traditional martial arts were unrealistic so um eat my dick no pun intended
@stmak8 Besides your typo at end you are spot on :p... Bruce Lee never advocated ANY art. He took from many to create something more practical. Wing Chun is not practical in a real fight but looks good in a movies though. Well... looks average in movies. Thumbs up.
@HeWasAllButDead you are both incorrect, if Wing Chun is taught and learned correctly it is more than effective, I have only been studying a year and it has already got me out of a few nasty situations, might i ask how many real fights you have had that brought you to the conclusion? In fact the problem Bruce Lee had with WC was that he didn't fully understand it, look at him talk about tai chi, didn't understand that either. WC has developped my hand speed and reaction time incredibly
@sickness324 there's no correct way to write chinese using western alphabets. nor is yip or ip pronounciation any better representation of real chinese pronounciation. only way is with chinese markings
@Theshofumiah1 hitting the face isn't always reliable, if you don't know where to punch u can hurt your own hand or wrist because of the irregularities in the bone structure of a skull, on the other hand the chest is one of the most motionless parts of the human body, relatively flat and takes hits near full force of blow since it doesn't move much, you major organs are there too so in technicality attacking the body causes more dmg then attacking the face
I really think they should re-visit kung fu and invest in learning internal martial arts rather than external. At the beginning of the episode, they skipped over Ba Gua and Tai Chi basically saying that they aren't used for fighting, and I think they should go back and learn how powerful those moves are.
i love the explanation of the chain punches, tho the visual looks more like the polick punch from silat, a bit windmill like and circular as opposed to straight like a wing chun punch
Not too bad. So many ppl & shows underrate/present this technique poorly. WC deserves better. eg. 1 knuckle punch combos to the dim-mak points (@ least) or chain punching to the glass target, 1st - philtrum, 2nd, 3rd - throat (@ worst). End result: crushed throat, asphyxiation at worst, instant death at best. A good death, quick and clean. Wing Chun combat fighting is not designed to massage the adversary, but to kill him/her. The old MA way 1 strike, 2 strike, 3 strike he's DEAD.
You know, I don't usually get involved in online martial arguments, because they are normally just one person saying that there martial arts penis is bigger than the other guys martial arts penis. But whenever I do comment I always ensure that I know what I'm on about. Chain Link punches as demonstrated above would be fairly useless - but when used as a tool combined with opportunistic attacks, they deliver 3-5 very powerful blows in rapid succession allowing you to get back to boxing/safe range
@TheSmeep Please tell me that you've been taking Wing Chun for at least three years? If you've taken any martial art for at least three years, you come to know it very well. After another three, you are quite comfortable with it and are used to it's nuances. And add on another three, and you are familiar enough with it to accurately pass a judgement call on it. After taking any martial art for ten years, you are now qualified to give a respectable opinion on it; many people take it for decades.
@dustymiller65 That's odd? And, you have seen the TV program this came with, right? "Human Weapon"? It's all in there and explained. I don't think you've been hit by someone big enough to do you damage on the Chain Link punches? I've seen huge Asian men who take Wing Chun deliver a series of devastating Chain Link punches, not intending to hurt but as a demonstration. It's real. I've seen it. I wonder how you can say the opposite after taking Wing Chun for NINE YEARS?! It's mindblowing(ly wrong)
people are dumb there is no better style of fighting, if two people study the same style it then goes on to who is the better, so if you are 5degree black belt in Kung Fu and fight someone that is lesser in jj or bjj the bjj or jj might still win. there is only what you can execute not what you have memorize. That is why jkd style is so open, because it teaches no style, just smart fighting,
@cloud218 True there is no better style but I do think there are more practical styles for some uses. For street fighting I dont think this would be very good, compared to krav maga which is pretty much made for no-holds barred street fights.
w/e jiu jitsu is the most effective art but if your to insecure with your self to learn it then thats your choice. i wont be the one down on the ground getting my face punched in. just think about that man.
@nubemuffin I agree, Jiu Jitsu is an effective art, but not the most. All opponents against a Jiu Jitsu fighter, must learn defence take downs or then your screwed basically. But put a Jiu Jitsu against a roman fighter. No chance in hell for the JJ.
I've studied wingchun quite a bit, and I agree. Why only throw straight punches? And like that to just the chest? Its fast, but that doesn't mean the other person won't throw a few haymakers of his own. And almost all the parries/blocks in wingchun are only for variations of, you guessed it ...Only straight punches! It's a lot of slapping/trapping (which doesn't work in any real combat) How do you grab a punch? The enemy will retract his hand way before you can chop and tap him.
if u studied/trained in wing chun, u will know straight punches are significantly faster/simpler. if you practiced defending hooks/haymakers and such with the hands wing chun gives you, its easy to see you dont really need a variety of parries/blocks. and yes, its pretty dumb to try grabbing jab.
if you studied wing chun, then you will know , it's because the wing chun believes in a center-line theory, and throwing straight punches will protect your centerline while controlling your opponents. Besides, if you are experienced, then your straight punches will hurt the opponent, if you are throwing the punches right.
Throwing a haymaker means moving your shoulder, and one of the first things we learn in wing chun is that, the shoulder that moves, is the the side where the punch is
I dont understand why you all argue over it all WC or any other form of Arts should not be used in violence only when it is needed.

Stryker125 6 months ago
Thing is, in reality, if you were throwing all them punches, the receiving dude isn't just gonna stagger back with his arms by his side.
He's gonna be kicking and swinging his arms around.
dvdsmlprstylr 7 months ago
@dvdsmlprstylr that's only if he didn't get the wind knocked out of him first. it's really difficult to react when you're trying to recover.
AudioCorps 6 months ago
@AudioCorps and it's even more difficult to pull this stuff off. t's not for normal/untrained people.

I think I seen Pacquiao do this. Or something resembling this.

TheSmeep 7 months ago
@TheSmeep Please tell me that you've been taking Wing Chun for at least three years? If you've taken any martial art for at least three years, you come to know it very well. After another three, you are quite comfortable with it and are used to it's nuances. And add on another three, and you are familiar enough with it to accurately pass a judgement call on it. After taking any martial art for ten years, you are now qualified to give a respectable opinion on it; many people take it for decades.

@dustymiller65 Nine years :)
TheSmeep 7 months ago
@dustymiller65 That's odd? And, you have seen the TV program this came with, right? "Human Weapon"? It's all in there and explained. I don't think you've been hit by someone big enough to do you damage on the Chain Link punches? I've seen huge Asian men who take Wing Chun deliver a series of devastating Chain Link punches, not intending to hurt but as a demonstration. It's real. I've seen it. I wonder how you can say the opposite after taking Wing Chun for NINE YEARS?! It's mindblowing(ly wrong)

otakusama17 1 year ago
people are dumb there is no better style of fighting, if two people study the same style it then goes on to who is the better, so if you are 5degree black belt in Kung Fu and fight someone that is lesser in jj or bjj the bjj or jj might still win. there is only what you can execute not what you have memorize. That is why jkd style is so open, because it teaches no style, just smart fighting,
cloud218 1 year ago
@cloud218 True there is no better style but I do think there are more practical styles for some uses. For street fighting I dont think this would be very good, compared to krav maga which is pretty much made for no-holds barred street fights.

probally because its kung fu, the most useless art in the world. go learn some jiu jitsu dude :)
nubemuffin 3 years ago
LOL, its cool, i think i can find another way of defending myself without having to roll around with dudes all day.
nel3000 3 years ago
w/e jiu jitsu is the most effective art but if your to insecure with your self to learn it then thats your choice. i wont be the one down on the ground getting my face punched in. just think about that man.
nubemuffin 3 years ago
actually, u will be the one on getting his face punched in...right after u start hugging one guy, his friend will prolly bash ure head.
nel3000 3 years ago 21
ha, so it will take two guys to take me out... where in your case it will only take one.
nubemuffin 3 years ago
jiu jitsu isnt the most effective 1 silat has around 12 types and all of them r either to break a bone or kill
darkmagefire 2 years ago
@nubemuffin I agree, Jiu Jitsu is an effective art, but not the most. All opponents against a Jiu Jitsu fighter, must learn defence take downs or then your screwed basically. But put a Jiu Jitsu against a roman fighter. No chance in hell for the JJ.
bibozs 1 year ago
I've studied wingchun quite a bit, and I agree. Why only throw straight punches? And like that to just the chest? Its fast, but that doesn't mean the other person won't throw a few haymakers of his own. And almost all the parries/blocks in wingchun are only for variations of, you guessed it ...Only straight punches! It's a lot of slapping/trapping (which doesn't work in any real combat) How do you grab a punch? The enemy will retract his hand way before you can chop and tap him.
sonne5 3 years ago
if u studied/trained in wing chun, u will know straight punches are significantly faster/simpler. if you practiced defending hooks/haymakers and such with the hands wing chun gives you, its easy to see you dont really need a variety of parries/blocks. and yes, its pretty dumb to try grabbing jab.
nel3000 3 years ago
@sonne5
if you studied wing chun, then you will know , it's because the wing chun believes in a center-line theory, and throwing straight punches will protect your centerline while controlling your opponents. Besides, if you are experienced, then your straight punches will hurt the opponent, if you are throwing the punches right.
Throwing a haymaker means moving your shoulder, and one of the first things we learn in wing chun is that, the shoulder that moves, is the the side where the punch is
