KWOD 106 was a great Sacramento / West coast top 40. I used to listen to Wild Bill Shakespeare on KWOD 106 in '88-'89. I miss the fun, personality and energy for those days. It's just missing on stations today.
This Was The Last Year I Listened To Kwod 106 I Liked It Best Before The Played Alternative Rock I Wished they Stayed WIth This Format I Grew Up in the Late 80's and enjoyd this Format The best because When 97 Kroy went off the air all I listend to Was kwod until they went to the alernative rock format.
What ever happened to Willy B? He hired me in 1990 at KWOD to do some minor music production work and he was a really good guy. I lost touch with him in '91 when I moved away from Sac and always wondered if he continued on in the radio biz.
Willie B. was all over the country after KWOD in the last 20 years...classic Country at KVET in Austin after KWOD...since then he was in Montana, New Orleans, Indianapolis and today at WKQK (Classic Hits) in Memphis
Good to see Willy B. I remember him from his WBSB/Baltimore years.
Unfortunately, KWOD was in the mist of a 3-way CHR battle at the time this was recorded. KSFM (FM102) was dominate with their Rhythmic format, leaving KWOD and KROY in a two-way tie for second place. KROY would leave the CHR format later in 1990, while KWOD would evolve to Modern Rock in 1991.
@RobynWatts Not to mention just down I-5 at the southern end of town you could pick up 97 KWIN..97 KROY started to play more dance music in their playlist in 1990, but the writing was on the wall..
I was unable to pick up KWOD in San Fracisco because of that lousy 106.5 KEZR out of San Jose :(
