  • What the hell did they do to Duncan?

  • Loved this game. And it was not hard to beat. played it through maybe 5 times.

How to do it? Easy, ignore the 'enemy is near' warnings and proceed south to recruit fremen and mine. The HQ can be undefended. After the south side is cleaned of spice and fremen are equiped leave a token defense at HQ and then concentrate all force into one single army and head west. smash everything. grab better weapons. clean up spice. when you cant go more west. head nort-east and finaly east. Atomics! the end.

  • Strange. Game is based on book, but baron Harkonen was dead before that "chat". And there is nothing about marrige of Paul, and emperor's doughter. There is a lot of misstakes, but at least Chani is preety :D

  • Played this on my Sega CD as a kid. Couldn't beat it. Always got my ass kicked. Still kept going back.

  • The melody in the end with the credits screen is awesomesauce!!!

  • I don't remember feeling underwhelmed at this ending. On the contrary, I was so damn happy that I'd done it!

  • @odds87 I was really happy because Dune 2 then came out :)

  • wtf why where there a strange bird at 1:44 ????

that makes no sense or does it? o_O

  • @thesdicgamer the symbol of house atreides is the red hawk. I admit it does kind of look random though. I was half expecting it to wink :)

  • Worst ending ever. So dull and pointless @!$% after all that hard work micromanaging too.

  • @RedDaVincy still a good game though, but i agree the ending is pretty poor. And the music on the credits is pretty bad. But music overall was very good.

  • 2:17

  • Say, what happens if you click "WHAT?"

  • @coyran Clicking "WHAT?" repeats what was just said.

  • @hatchmt

I was hoping for it to be something more somehow.

  • @hatchmt i suppose the title never gave it away?

  • Shaddam IV is a sneaky little bugger. :)

  • whats up with the eagle head at the end, whats the symbolism behind it *puffs pipe*

  • @Shaitan111 It's the symbol of house Atreides. Well in the game at least. In the book it's a hawk.

  • never seen a micheal bay movie. but guessing from your non question, he's probably not as superbad as pauly shore

  • I use to play this game all the time in high school in the 90's and i had a blast even with those books.

  • EXCELLENT VOICE ACTING!!!!

  • I finished this game, but without this neat music and voice ... well ... I only found soundless game on the net ... :( GG anyway.

  • worse than the movie...

  • @rebelanarch

You mean that David Lynch clunker? there is a new Dune movie coming soon in possibly 3 parts

  • @Johnlindsey289

there is?!?1 cool. hope it doesn't get as homoerotic as LotRs.

  • @rebelanarch

I thought LOTR was awesome and remained true to it's source by doing the tasks of three movies, this new Dune movie should be separated into three parts on the first book. Besides Avatar is already the same as Herbert's Dune as Cameron stated when he said he wrote Avatar in 1993 is that one of the inspirations was John Carter, Heavy Metal Magazine, Nausicaa and Dune by Frank Herbert, there are similarities.

  • @Johnlindsey289 hohoho. avatar? i thought it was inspired by dances with smurfs. cameron should never direct a dune flick, he'll make it sleazier than shatner's tekwar 'cept he doesn't even know it.

  • @rebelanarch

Well Cameron had the idea for Avatar since 1985 then wrote it in 1993 as he stated that Dune was one of the inspirations besides John Carter of Mars. You can tell their similarities such as a lonely guy who becomes an outcast on an exotic planet, becomes one of the people of a strange alien tribe and even fall in love with a girl, both go through tests even riding a beast, both tribes fight corporations that have a precious substance and that kind of thing.

  • @Johnlindsey289

i'm sure mr cameron has great aspirations but the way he presents them is almost always absolute cheesecake. i enjoy a b-movie every now and then but a multi hundred millionaire dollar b-movie is just way too self-indulgent.

  • @rebelanarch

I assume you think Cameron is nothing but a shallow mindless action director, do you think he's Michael Bay on a bigger budget?

  • Why do you have 20 fremen troops in army training, you madman?! You only need 10,000 men!

  • chani is hot

  • I just managed to get through this game today, and it is not the first time I got to the end. Well it is not exactly as the book says, but I definitely like it... and, Chani has a really charming voice :-)

  • One of the best games ever made by human beings!

  • Is that Suposed to be the Harkonnen Baron at 0:56?the book didnt say he was THAT FAT!!!and he also was killed by chani...

  • @mangame5 Ahlia, Paul's little sister (And I do mean little, since she was only 2 at the time) killed the Baron, Paul killed Feyed in a knife fight, Thufer killed himself rather than kill Paul and the Emperor eventually pops his clogs of old age about 12 years later

  • @weldonwin thx...that adds eaven more to it :D

  • empress? in the book, hardly, but here why not.

and btw, i love how fremen winning is actually the worst possible ending :), but that again is based on the books.

great game anyways. games following books or movies to the letter, always (i have no evidence to the contrary) turn horribly bad so who cares.

  • why does shaddam look the he has horns WTF

  • Comment removed

  • @VitoPossilipo thufir hawat, mentat the human computer

  • the guy in 1:07 looks homo

  • Although all characters look all diffrent I imagined them while reading the book, Thufir Hawat was quite close to my version of him.

    Halleck looks like twisted clown.

And I would't keep such douchebag like Idoho's here for 3500 years.

  • @Max0Inq He's supposed to be a suave Swordsmaster in the books, but here he's an uptight business manager. Go figure, I guess.

  • best game

  • Why no spoiler alert!! DAMMMIT!! FUCK FUCK FUCK

  • Heh -- in the unlikely event you *aren't* being sarcastic, I'm pretty sure "this is how it ends" in the video description qualifies as a spoiler alert. :)

  • "WHAT ?"

  • i played it as a freeware cool game

  • This game actually wasn't bad. Good voice acting for a game this early on. Good FMV as well, and the story unfolded pretty well.

It's funny how Dune 2 had almost nothing to do with Dune 1.

  • OK I got it. Is it some kind of "special edition"?

  • The CD version of the game had voice. As far as I know, other versions did not. Never owned any other version than this one...

  • @hatchmt The CD version also added clips from the movie to the glossary/quote book in the game, plus 3D animations to the intro and travel sequences (also a nifty music/sound/voice volume mixer years ahead of its time).

  • @hatchmt, you would be right. I played the original 3 1/2 floppy disk version back in the day and sound effects were scarce--just little things like the harvesters, battles, or a worm emerging. You should look into the Spice Opera CD that contains some nice higher quality versions of the game's music, as well as some original compositions. It can't be hard to find through Google.

  • VOICE? CHARACTERS HAVE VOICES?!

*Sigh* It seems i pick rong audio driver one day...

  • The ending was a bit of an anti climax, but it was a good game

  • you know, voice acting is pretty good for such an early pc game era.

  • Chani blows you a kiss at 2:22. :D

  • thats it.. re-reading the books, starting with the prequels :P

  • epic game

  • what is wrong with Feyd Rautha? He's like something out of a '90s kids' show.

  • I agree! at 1:44 have it wink!

  • ahh CD :) I had old floppy version

  • how did you get the voice to work? ive played this game on several machines but no voice ever.

  • I didn't do anything special. Just put the CD in and ran it.

  • @TheloniousSphere There were two versions - the normal and the CD-version. The latter included speech.

  • Lol completed it again today, it's easy if you really know what to do

  • lol i tried to attack this little palace of the harkonen and all my men got captured... now i have to restart.... Y DID THAY STEAL MY CHANI!?!?!?!?!

  • you couldn't possibly attack the Hark castle because the fremens will never take orders from you for the final attack. First you have to conquer all the forts, place your men on the closest sietches from Arrakeen, bring all your staff also. After you've done all this, Stillgar will give the orders for the final attack.

  • Chani must be kidnapped. If you want an advantage in this, just make your ecologists as late as possible. When you have already conquered enough fortresses, you must be with your campain in the Carthag area. Then you can go and search for the ecologists. Once the ecologists appear you have diseases and only Chani can cure your troops. Try to search as quick as possible and find her, as the morale of your troops will decrease if you don't hurry.

  • ugh.... its too late i gave up in that game.....

  • That was a half hearted - at best - "long live"-speach. Fucking bitch.

  • BEST END !!!

  • the end sucks

  • i'd of had the smiling atreides eagle give a wink at the end ;)

  • I played this on a 286 when I was a kid (first on a monochrome display, then we bought a color one) and I loved the music.... later I got hold of a CD but never heard these voices, or seen that fancy intro. Maybe my hardware didn't support it... I think Chani's voice is kinda sexy, but Jessica's is d'oh! I recently played this again on Pentium MMX that still has AWE32, and I was stunned by the OPL synthesis (so much that I actually did a program in BASIC using INP an OUT to play a1 indefinetely

  • I played this game for an entire day, and finished it at midnight. Good stuff.

  • great game one of my first quests - was mad about it classic

  • great game, love it, but the ending kinda sucks ^^

  • wow i was trying forever to beat the game really. i got stuck after chani gets kidnapped and finally ive seen the ending :D lol

  • wow some of those characters look really strange. Like Halleck and Duncan and Hawat

  • Hahaha, never have I seen an even deader Paul Atreides than in this great game. I thought Kyle Maclachlan was like a stiff, but the game version made me laugh!

  • Oh god, Chani's voice is bad.

I'm glad I only got the non-voiced version. Even though the rest of the CD-ROM got wasted on nothing.

  • I remember we can destroy Arakeen palace shield with help of ecologists.

  • Yes. That is right, you can win by it, but you can not destroy the palast with that way.

  • one of the best games ever, wish games today would be that great ! Long live Dune and the other games in the 90's !

  • I love this game i played it many times and beated it. i think it wouldhave been intresting if the game was more chalenging or if you could play one of the other sides. long live emperor paul and empress chani

  • I love this game and played through it many a time.

    Thanks for posting it.

  • OMG Baron Harkonnen looks like he's in his sado-masochist get up, that's even scarier than Lynch's version.

  • Oh and did anyone else find the credits music really freaky? ha ha

  • God I miss this game, it was freaking incredible, insanely hard though, the first time I played it was when I was maybe 11 and I didn't finish it until I was 19 ha ha I'ma bust out the cd from my attic now and play it again XD

  • LOL Prison planet, sounds more like Disney land er... Disney planet.

  • hahaha.. exiled onto the prison planet!!!

  • I know -- soooooo terrible! "I'LL BANISH YOUR FAMILY!"
