In my geek to go bag I have some shrink tubing, a butane soldering iron (sooooooooo handy) a multimeter a paper clip (to use as a jumper to test psu) a screwdriver set annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd thermal paste
Where in my past did I learn Magnetic drivers were not a good thing? Was this a true thing in the past? I'm a risk taker so I use whatever driver, that may even have been magnetic, as well as not using a static bracelet, just ground first.,. I'm a bad geek!
@JordanMorris Hey! Not going to lie: I just fangirled a little. Regarding the tote bag: I carry it everywhere in the hopes of having chance encounters with other MaxFunsters, and have had a lot of fun seeing where our audiences intersect. (I'm convinced that the overlapping portion the Venn diagram of MaxFunsters and Fixers is comprised of the upper-echelon of the nerd community.) Oh, and if you're looking for job with little street-cred and no glamor, I've got a set of screw drivers for you.
@HAMWI253 Not to be a hater or anything, but I used to work for Apple, and most of them are not educated in that regard. Unless they've taken it upon themselves to do the research, they're just giving you their "best guess." Unfortunately, there's no training regarding the general maintenance of any of their products (cleaning, best practices for batteries, etc). I overheard Mac Geniuses (and managers) telling people to use windex and newspaper on more than one occasion. --mj
@HAMWI253 Yeah, that's what I said. "I overheard Mac Geniuses (and managers) telling people to use windex and newspaper on more than one occasion." You don't have to believe me, but I'll say it again: I used to work for Apple, and we received no training whatsoever on the care and maintenance of devices. When people (even managers) tell you to use Windex, it's out of ignorance. Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to save your display! :) --mj
@HAMWI253 according to the Apple website they do not recommend using stronger then water and a soft cloth, but i would not use anything with ammonia in it
@HAMWI253 Newspaper has rough fibers, and while you might not notice scratches after the first cleaning, if you clean it with newspaper every single time, eventually scratches will develop. A clean microfiber cloth is best. Also, I wouldn't advise using Windex on anything electronic, because as the screen heats up, the display will develop irremovable cloudiness. (This is especially true for televisions.)
While you were talking about your Rocket Blower I remembered that my iPhone hasn't been ringing but only vibrating. I assumed that it was just broken but I went and used my blower (I bought it for photography) and it worked! My phone now rings again. Thanks for the tip.
As a Mac and a PC user, do you iFixit crew plan on doing any PC repairing videos (such as "CPU cooling system replace") in the near future? thanks in advance and thumbs up for the great, informative videos!
I'm ordering a thirsty bag asap. Last weekend I got my Droid 2 soaked. It was a miracle it came back on two days later. Pretty good selection of stuff though. compressed air is a necessity for me. Like the vids. Keep em coming!
You know what? During an annual Family BBQ party, My sister dropped my phone in a boiling pot of water on accident. I dont know how she did it but I took it out as fast as I can. (4 seconds). I then grabbed a vacuum and started to suck all the water out of it in every nook and cranny. after a few minutes of doing that The phone was successfully dry and in good working condition. it was a miracle. Maybe I should invest in your Thirsty Bag. LOL. and U Rock!
In mine I have my 11 inch notebook 56 piece bit driver kit ( from ifixit) hdd plastic spudger USB windows key (for reinstalling windows 7 on someone's computer) iPod touch philips screws flat head screws torx screws and a rocket
my "geek go" kit is more of my computer repair bag; a few screwdrivers, , flashlight, HDD to USB adapter, system/program CDs, external HDD, a few flash drives and usually my ASUS netbook.
hmmm I wonder if a PSU tester would be a good thing for the emergency kit. They're small enough these days and could be a useful thing if your PSU has met an untimely death.
Im having a problem with my PS3 controller. I was using it (playing the PS3 obviously) when it shut off. I tried syncing it with the PS3, and it didnt work. So i put it on the charger for 3 hrs, and it didnt work. HELP MJ!!
My kit also contains: pliers, small knife/scissors, scotch tape, permanent marker, pencil, nitrile or latex gloves, rubber bands/zip ties, small zip lock bags, and tweezers.

Maybe because i tend to fiddle with bulkier stuff than mac related products.

When I work on computers, I usually have spare cables, electrical tape, etc. but here are a couple of things people don't often think about.
USB charger for my phone--While I'm working on your computer, I might as well get some juice.
Binder clips--Hold cables out of the way and clamp things together while adhesive sets.
