The first two difficulties are actually really easy so I don't understand why people who review this game say that it is extremely hard right from the start. Playing it on the third difficulty is where it gets frustrating and the fourth is just unbearable. id rather play this one, iv heard that the enemies are less cheap and more skilled. meaning in master ninja you wouldent get spammed with explosives..and instead they would fight harder and smarter.
they went more towards the original in this one and thats what makes it better. whats soo fun about killing 20 damn spamming ninjas every 10 steps around the corner.
i dont have this game, im playing NG2 MN difficulty on xbox atm and am wishing i could play this version.
They fixed the framerate issues of the 360 version, tweaked the cam and plus added more lenght, bosses and characters to the campaing, way better graphichs - runs smooth -, 1080p, co-op online play, and you get to play with more and cool characters on both singleplayer and co-op.
And its still HARD as hell, you better believe it.... Its just not stupidishlly hard
@ELmaggo10 yeah i agree it does look WAY better, and by it being hard as hell is a very good, thing i love challenging games :). but in NG2 they exaggerated way to much its ridiculous, MN difficulty is so cheap it went to the point its not even enjoyable. i just refuse to completely spam my way through the game...just doesnt feel right you know
NGB is one example, its very hard but very fun and rewarding just like NGS2 it improved alot, and im sure id love it, any fan of the original would :D
The ultimate version of next gen Ninja Gaiden. Team Missions, Co-op online play, better graphichs, 1080p, not much framerate problems and the original version, and if you play at 720p you get almost no tearing and it still looks the same - beautiful.
As a fan of this genre, I have no doubts saying this is the better version of Ninja Gaiden 2, with lesse blood than its original version.... Not a big deal, cause it still has its amount of blood.
Ninja gaiden 2 is for hardcore ninja gaiden fans the best of the two.. This is for people that are less into the series the best.. They removed blood they added boobs so what?
Really hate the purple censoring and the forcing of the female characters into the single player campaign, i think the gore made it much more satisfying and added to the replay value somehow.

Yeah but the original one was still better imo, it may have been cheaper but you werent forced to switch characters, there was gore, there was more outfits, you could replay the game and keep your stuff, actual upgrading with money whenever you want and not that stupid 1 upgrade per place and only being able to upgrade to a certain level in a certain area/chapter and lastly you werent forced to allways have a bow/gun equipped, i hated that in Sigma 2.
@simpledude58 On co op Ryu is used about 90% of the time, my guess is the players who play female characters as their primary characters are mostly either girls themselves, drag queens, and still in the closet gay guys. Obviously they're the ones who would ask to play as Rachel, Momiji and Ayane.
I threw a MK9 party and found girls and gay guys usually played girls, while straight guys and dikes mostly picked male characters. And I mean mostly, they did reverse roles, but not as often.
@MrGundestrup It's just an observation from the well rounded ranges of friends I have, I've noticed that the gay portion of my friends like to play as female characters in videogames, watch girl shows like Sailor Moon, Top Model etc, listen to Lady Gaga, Kesha, Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, etc.

This game is a lost opportunity. instead of polishing the games difficulty they cheapend out and reduced alot of stuff that made the 360 version great in gameplay & impact and duly compensated it with unnecessary and out of character stuff instead of building the sequel up. I thought PS3 was powerful enough to fix the 360's problems without reducing it too much. Guess I was wrong.
I loved the fuck out of Ninja Gaiden 2 when I had an Xbox, but I'm afraid of buying this. I hear it a lot easier, and the blood being taken out is kind of a downer. Blood is no big deal, but the difficulty is what kept me playing this game for so long. It took me forever to beat the final boss in Ninja Gaiden 2, and I wasn't even on a high difficulty.
@UnderwhelmingPlywood Lol Sigma 2 will still be a challenge if you didn't beat NG2 on Mentor or Master Ninja. And the team missions (multiplayer) is hard as shit lol. But on the other hand... As a owner of all NG games. At least for the 360 and PS3. This is my favorite NG game of all :-) I really recommend this!

@JazoMituki The Wikipedia of "Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2" can explain what Content has been added and the Content that got removed from Ninja Gaiden 2.
So it's like Add/Remove for Sigma 2 so both PS3/360 Versions are both even, you can check it out if either you like the New Content (PS3) or the Old Content that got removed (360).
@JazoMituki Both. Xbox version is better for singleplayer, but ps3 has online witch is great, so i recomend both. But if you dont play online, xbox version is better gameplaywise, more fluid action, more enimies and easier delimbing.
Agreed. They totally fucked up the single player portion of PS3 version. That equals most of what the game is, since it was created as a single player game from the ground up. Those extras are tacked on and not well integrated into the package.
Sigma 2 feels like a fan made mod of NG2. It fails to capture what made NG2 a complete experience.
And why the kindergarden treatment? The gore in the first version was a realistical upgrade to the first game. Why take that out? And about the difficulty. The director of the 360 version stated that they intended to make the players feel like the enemies tried everything in their path to kill you. This was much evident in the hardest difficulty where only hardcore players could pass but because of rants from noobs we have now a lost opportunity called Sigma 2.
Sigma 2 sucks! They take away the essence of what NGII is about (which is the feeling of being a badass ninja massacring the ones responsible for the fall of his clan) and replace it with extra content that doesn't make the legacy justice. Ryu doesn't need assistance in Mission Mode, His nickname is SUPER NINJA for pete's sake! And why is Ryu bearing a canon? They take away the Incendiary shurikens and the arrow charging function and replaced it with a canon which is so out of character.
@simpledude58 I understand where you come from. I've played and beaten both NG2 versions on both 360 and PS3. It's indeed extremely easier than the 360 version. And the Tanegashima is used in alot of different games, it's a rifle, although it's effects have been EXTREMELY exagerated in this game it's of good use, Take Onimusha 1-2 for example, that's what it's supposed to look like.

@DarkAdonis123 yea but Ninja Gaiden on NES was generations ago, while Ninja Gaiden on Xbox was a reboot and had its own style. Sony could have put in more support for a sequel to Shinobi instead of support for the Xbox's Ninja Gaiden. The reason why I say Xbox's Ninja Gaiden is because the remake was exlclusive to Microsofts Xbox, just how the Metal Gear Solid series was exclusive to Sony's consoles. So...yea.

And when Team Ninja approached Sony about doing Sigma 1 and 2 on PS3 were they supposed to tell them no? I don't recall Microsoft saying no to getting DMC4, FFXIII, Virtua Fighter 5,Tekken 6, GTA etc. All franchises known for being a staple on the PS2 last gen. And they wouldn've took MGS4 too if they could've.

I just bought this game... I've always wanted one of the 3D Ninja Gaidens (I have NG2 on NES). Can you say AWESOME! This is one of the coolest hack'n'slashes I've ever played. I just love the fact that you will get totally owned if you don't think, block and counter the enemies all the time with carefully-planned combos, not just do some mindless button mashing :D

Is this like Sigma part 1? Where u play some levels as Ryu and some levels as Rachel. Or do you unlock these characters and get to use them thru out the game instead? Anyone know this..
@wittynameguy to answer your question its somewhat like Sigma 1.... Though since there are 3 girls you will play only a chapter with each one in story mode versus say 3 chapters w/ Rachel in Sigma 1as you progress along with Ryu...You unlock them but only for mission mode as you beat the chapter they are featured in , in story mode...You can't play entire story mode w/ them except for mostly Ryu who takes most of the story chapters.

I can understand why they took the blood away seeing how NG2 was supposed to be exclusive to the 360 published by Microsoft. They didn't want Microsoft thinking PS3 was getting the same game. @JazoMituki The Wikipedia of "Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2" can explain what Content has been added and the Content that got removed from Ninja Gaiden 2.
So it's like Add/Remove for Sigma 2 so both PS3/360 Versions are both even, you can check it out if either you like the New Content (PS3) or the Old Content that got removed (360).

@JazoMituki Both. Xbox version is better for singleplayer, but ps3 has online witch is great, so i recomend both. But if you dont play online, xbox version is better gameplaywise, more fluid action, more enimies and easier delimbing.

Agreed. They totally fucked up the single player portion of PS3 version. That equals most of what the game is, since it was created as a single player game from the ground up. Those extras are tacked on and not well integrated into the package.
Sigma 2 feels like a fan made mod of NG2. It fails to capture what made NG2 a complete experience.

And why the kindergarden treatment? The gore in the first version was a realistical upgrade to the first game. Why take that out? And about the difficulty. The director of the 360 version stated that they intended to make the players feel like the enemies tried everything in their path to kill you. This was much evident in the hardest difficulty where only hardcore players could pass but because of rants from noobs we have now a lost opportunity called Sigma 2.

Sigma 2 sucks! They take away the essence of what NGII is about (which is the feeling of being a badass ninja massacring the ones responsible for the fall of his clan) and replace it with extra content that doesn't make the legacy justice. Ryu doesn't need assistance in Mission Mode, His nickname is SUPER NINJA for pete's sake! And why is Ryu bearing a canon? They take away the Incendiary shurikens and the arrow charging function and replaced it with a canon which is so out of character.

@simpledude58 I understand where you come from. I've played and beaten both NG2 versions on both 360 and PS3. It's indeed extremely easier than the 360 version. And the Tanegashima is used in alot of different games, it's a rifle, although it's effects have been EXTREMELY exagerated in this game it's of good use, Take Onimusha 1-2 for example, that's what it's supposed to look like.

@woiboi567 Sony didn't make Shinobi PS2. Sega did. The decision for what system a game ends up on is up to the publisher. Obviously Team Ninja WANTED to do this for PS3 so blame them not Sony. Ninja Gaiden was originally for the NES so i have no idea where you get this "XBox's" crap from. Also you sound really silly saying "original" and "sequel" in the same sentence.

@DarkAdonis123 yea but Ninja Gaiden on NES was generations ago, while Ninja Gaiden on Xbox was a reboot and had its own style. Sony could have put in more support for a sequel to Shinobi instead of support for the Xbox's Ninja Gaiden. The reason why I say Xbox's Ninja Gaiden is because the remake was exlclusive to Microsofts Xbox, just how the Metal Gear Solid series was exclusive to Sony's consoles. So...yea.

@woiboi567 Shinobi PS2 was a critical and commercial failure. Despite that they still made that sequel called Kunoichi which was an even bigger failure. And when Team Ninja approached Sony about doing Sigma 1 and 2 on PS3 were they supposed to tell them no? I don't recall Microsoft saying no to getting DMC4, FFXIII, Virtua Fighter 5,Tekken 6, GTA etc. All franchises known for being a staple on the PS2 last gen. And they wouldn've took MGS4 too if they could've.

i hate to be the one to say this but the story makes sense if you watch the cutscenes and pay attention the plot is that genshin and elizabet are working for dagradai to steal the demon statue in order to bring about a second comeing of the archfeind along with the greater feinds its kinda like in the first game where doku was trying to activate the feindish awakening

I just bought this game... I've always wanted one of the 3D Ninja Gaidens (I have NG2 on NES). Can you say AWESOME! This is one of the coolest hack'n'slashes I've ever played. I just love the fact that you will get totally owned if you don't think, block and counter the enemies all the time with carefully-planned combos, not just do some mindless button mashing :D

Is this like Sigma part 1? Where u play some levels as Ryu and some levels as Rachel. Or do you unlock these characters and get to use them thru out the game instead? Anyone know this..

@wittynameguy to answer your question its somewhat like Sigma 1.... Though since there are 3 girls you will play only a chapter with each one in story mode versus say 3 chapters w/ Rachel in Sigma 1as you progress along with Ryu...You unlock them but only for mission mode as you beat the chapter they are featured in , in story mode...You can't play entire story mode w/ them except for mostly Ryu who takes most of the story chapters.

I can understand why they took the blood away seeing how NG2 was supposed to be exclusive to the 360 published by Microsoft. They didn't want Microsoft thinking PS3 was getting the same game. Besides blood doesn't make a good game; Sigma 2 has much more content that makes it better.

I guess because neither game has the name "Call Of Duty" in front of it... oh and btw IGN, I never had any screen tearing problems playing this game, but the hit detection in the Call of duty games is horrible, but you all don't complain about that shit

the bosses are so fun and i paid a good $23 for this game and i feel i should of easily paid them $110 because of the quailty and fun and omg, i cannot stop playing. You always learning how to do something better etc, whereas gow is just a genetic hacky/slashy.

You can't complain about the story being ridiculous and then immediately brush it off as an excuse to beat up monsters. It's either acceptable, or it isn't.
This review tells me that if you like action, pick this up. Sounds decent enough to ME. :P
(And if a comment MUST be made on the scantily clad women in this, say something about the paper-thin boob jiggle physics. *lol*)
