sorry for the slow reply! I didnt see this comment, mah bad! I copied the signature path (drawn with wacom tablet) from illustrator into After Effects as a path, then i generated a stoke on the path and animated the endpoints. The whispy stuff is particular, using a light as an emitter and keyframing manually the position to follow the stroke animation. Hope that helps! Seems like there was a tutorial somewhere that I looked at, cant remember now... :)
