I'm sure we all agree, self-regulating and community-based content policing serves our interests better than YouTube-controlled censorship that uses communist-Chinese style filters and punishes users at its sole discretion.

Please exercise your right to self-regulate and help clean up inappropriate content on YouTube.
Half the Liberal cabinet walked out on it when it came to the final vote, and we won't see hide nor hair of this debate hopefully for some 20 years or so.
Before that milestone though I had to wonder what it was really going to mean for us, now, I'm a proud member of the furry community, so I felt really strongly on this subject. What would it have meant for us? As if we don't get enough shit already, this would have been a horrific step back.
Censorship can't be all bad. I would like to see the mechanism extended to prevent scammers and blackhat operators from taking advantage of the unsuspecting Australian internet user. Anyone who commits a internet crime ought to be tracked and prosecuted.
What about how to vote! What would be the best option in finding out & obtaining monkey see monkey do approach for voting Conroy out and putting proper suits in place who oppose this! I have many people saying how do I vote, who should I vote for regarding this being stopped. Many just want a template approach, sort of like the ones they try to hand U outside the voting ballot by different parties! If I can formulate one I can make a jpeg version so people can print & take with them when voting.

Well, looks like all the American's commenting on this video are ignorant dipshits who haven't looked very far into the issue.
EVERYONE IS AGAINST THIS, WE ARE ACTING AGAINST IT, AND EVERYONE FROM INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS TO USERS OF THE INTERNET KNOW THIS WON'T WORK.
The problem, if you're smart enough to have figured it out by now (but you're American, so I'm almost guaranteed you're not) is that the labor government is acting as a steamroller and basically saying "no, you're wrong".
Yeah, you're right - I just got angry and lost my shit there for a second.
The problem is that these fuckhead politicians scare ppl with terms like 'Protect the Children' and 'Stop child porn from entering Australia' - a lot of good, well-meaning people hear that kind of thing and think 'Yes, I want to protect children!', which is a good way to think... But the catch is that those terms are just a ploy to sucker well-meaning people into agreeing with a very bad idea.
my thoughts? its up to google to decide whether this happens or dosn't. if google decides not to cooperate then they will either have to dump the censorship plans, bit embarrassing but it will make people happy. or they will have to ban google, which will result in public outcry that will have them out on their sorry asses in no time. please google! its up to you to stop this!
Michael Atkinson banning adult games and movies and now Kevin Rudd censoring the internet? I thought you were a developed nation with good schooling and freedom of speech and such?
I think you're confusing the opinions of a few politicians with the opinions of the population. I for one am utterly disgusted that a single man (Atkinson) is destroying my right to consume uncensored games (I'm an adult after all), and Rudd taking away our largely uncensored internet access :/
Electrion rigging is how he got in. And its how every other primeminister gets in and will get in. This is why they want internet censorship because sooner or later the truth will leak out and the public won't like it one bit. Our government policies represent that of the multinational corporations running the world. Right or Left this makes no difference. The New World Order is here!
Censorship is a VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. Already, many countries that are member states of the United Nations are violating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Including the US. If this happens, I think that Australia should be kicked out of the UN. This is completely inhumane. This is what Capitalism does. Where the people representing the proletariat are the bourgeoisie.
I'm a kid, and this whole "internet censorship" business is just plain childish.. are they going to censor real like aswell? If i had money i would donate it towards putting this campaign on the air.

I find it a huge problem that children are only one click away from such disturbing contents and I would totally support that Google DNS be used by all ISPs by default with Safe Search activated, including also participatory tagging of adult contents by thousands of adult volunteers who could install Browser plugins to help identify whenever untagged adult content is found to make sure that the block list is as recent as possible.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Also, all pron businesses should have to 100% comply with the filtering or have all their funds and credit card transactions frozen and basically register their contents as being adult-only.
Censorship is obscene ... the Internet has provided a global conversation, be it good, bad or ugly, to opt out of that conversation is to put a picket fence up around a country and say that if we don't hear it, see it or speak it then it doesn't exist and we don't have to do anything about it or even think about it. Welcome to the Dark Age in Australia. Not that we were a particularly radical country to begin with but we can do a lot better then this.
The government just serves its own interest and there is literally nothing we can do about that except a rebellion and not many people feel like rebelling so too bad.
You're an idiot, this is a parody of the Australian Governments views on Censorship and how they plan to impose a mandatory content filter on the entire of Australian Internet.
They are taking away a basic right! Why the fuck are you Aussies not rioting in the street and burning down government buildings! These people work for YOU!
So why the fuck aren't british people rioting? From here it seems you are well on your way to censorship yourselves. But I'm not one to talk, Sweden is not far behind in all this :(
We've only had one armed rebellion against our government 155 years ago. It was subsequently quelled by british troops who slaughtered the miners. Since then the government has kept the population blissfully ignorant of their evilness with beer.
As someone who has lived in Australia for three yars, I feel that I can answer you question quite well!
Australians, like many other people, are lethargic. They won't act on a political issue unless they feel that it's absolutely necessary. Sorry, but they don't care about this censoring, otherwise they would prevent it from going forward.
@EmoHeadEshny We'll I'm an Australian and I fucking care a whole lot. The only reason 'most' Australian's aren't taking more action is because they have not been told anything about this other than that 'it's only going to be really sick kiddie porn that's blocked, we're just protecting your kids'. They don't understand the implications because it has been kept a very quiet issue.
Yeah, they've been tricked by the media and Government, this is true, but I'd still say that most of the Australians I know would rather watch AFL than take political action. The majority of Australians simply won't act on this issue, I can't imagine they would even if they knew the facts.
But, hey, let's wait and see. I could be wrong, tens of thousands of Australians may take to the streets in protest any day now..... Been two months since I made my original comment, and we're still waiting.
@MRbaXR6TurbO As an Australian, i'm going to have to step in here
a) we are not rioting because we are actually civilised people with the option of not voting in Kevin Rudd next election, or calling a referendum if need be
@Creaper11 No they arent creaper11. The VAST majority of Australians have been kept in the dark about what this filter and blacklist will actually involve.
and this is only because the government keep trying to sweep it under the rug and do it all in secret, but thankfully the news is spreading exponentially due to our efforts, and this can't be denied, just look at the media coverage from the past few months compared to when the public first became aware.
@Insoniax2 Because people do not understand what is happening. Our government has managed to keep the details vague and confusing. For instance, most people do not realise that the "banned list" cannot be known to general public. It is effectively a secret list that no one can check up on. Most people do not realise that this "filter" has no effect on peer-to-peer networks... and therefore NO effect on the dissemination of child porn etc. Mass ignorance is allowing this to go ahead.
Because, for the most part, we don't think it's really possible. Also, a great many Aussies fail to understand the significance. Personally, I plan to expatriate if it goes ahead. Rioting in the street isn't really my style.
in fact, the whole world is(120 out of 130 countries, till the last 10 get dumped too). this clearly is fascism and i wish people responsible for it would stop beeing top-stupid puppets. i guess they never experienced something like love outside their dark shitty boxview-glimps of this world.
Now I remember why I left Australia. Traveling along the road to serfdom it's gone from a country of individual macho men who did things to a misandric nanny state with big unions, big business, and big government calling the shots.
And now Qantas have censored this ad. God Save Australia.
Please spread the word about this. Australians need to wake up and stop being so apathetic towards Kevin Rudd and Labor's censorship plans. This censorship is very likely to be abused by this and future governments to suppress political opinion on the internet. All the facts point to this aim. The block list is secret and you can be put in jail for simply disclosing what's in it! Giving the government this kind of power is a very dangerous proposition. Labor are fascists.
Get up are a bit of a joke their policitcs are so overt and invasive in there mnedia that they long ago ceased being an effective movement I unsubscirbed from their yapping years ago.
Stick to your email spam guys or at least fire whatever grubby hippy made this joke and get someone with talent.
From a relatively straightforward idea that could have worked we get clumsy, ham fisted execution from someone that should stick to their day job. Looks like a bunch of ex student activest types had a meeting and tried to jam to many ideas they could into one minute thus diluting and watering down the importance of the issue a stake.
You obviously haven't been paying attention. The issue is that it bans websites based on a secret formula that nobody's allowed to know about. It does not allow people to know which pages are banned. It then fines you for linking to a secretly banned webpage. The leaked list showed that sites were banned for reasons such as being too anti-government-policy. If it was an open process then nobody would worry about it. It's the secretiveness of it that's a huge issue.
I don't even live in Australia and if half the stuff I'm reading here is true, Rudd's gonna need at minimum an ass-whupping. Government censorship of the internet, even (and especially) dissident political opinion, is absolutely a breach of any person's rights. China and Iran may be too far gone, but Australia?
Like Blad3 said, vote out any government that seeks to serve itself and not you, because you never know how long that vote will still matter if you don't.
Vote GETUP for Australia's next political party!!! At least some dare to speak the truth and represent current popular community beliefs!
"As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation." -Adolf Hitler
People fight for your given rights, censorship is starting to grow on a BIG scale right now, australia, germany, britain, sweden, even the US, the "modern democratic" governments are affraid of something that is made and shaped by the people, the internet, something that by definition used to apply to their land/nation there live in.
Ok, apparently there's a no-link policy, silly me.
Anyway, if you have a quick squizz around, you'll find that total surveillance and data-matching is nigh and this poxy firewall is chickenfeed compared to the future potential for cover-ups, corruption and harassment etc. Even Obama supports warrantless wiretapping and we lack even US privacy protection. Look at Iran to see how idiotic and vicious regimes can be when they're scared of losing their grip. Its about power not the public interest.
It doesn't work because people click the "Spam" button on your post. If you want to include information from another site, say what your point is then say "More information can be found on Privacy International's site" and people can look it up on Google.
The idea is good in theorie, like communism, but it's also blocking free speech, like comunism. If you've cheecked out some of the things they're blocking... i mean the kid sex is understandable but the rest of it
Thank you for posting this video, this filter is a complete failure. The government has no right to control what we say online, will cost billions and in the end, will be beaten...Who will monitor those who monitor us?
I'm sure we all agree, self-regulating and community-based content policing serves our interests better than YouTube-controlled censorship that uses communist-Chinese style filters and punishes users at its sole discretion.
Let's face it, would you rather police yourselves on YouTube or hand over your freedom to a corporation to control all that you say & do?

When will these ignorant fundy disciples of Ludd go to hell and die?
Someone please take Conroy out back against a wall already!
1atatimepleaseladies 2 years ago
Now I remember why I left Australia. Traveling along the road to serfdom it's gone from a country of individual macho men who did things to a misandric nanny state with big unions, big business, and big government calling the shots.
And now Qantas have censored this ad. God Save Australia.

Couldn't agree more and Hayek next to me agrees.

Conroy. Not Rudd.
tkpenalty 2 years ago
Conroy is Rudd's stooge. Rudd wants this just as much as Conroy, because it will be used for political censorship just like his idols in China do.

Get up are a bit of a joke their policitcs are so overt and invasive in there mnedia that they long ago ceased being an effective movement I unsubscirbed from their yapping years ago.
Stick to your email spam guys or at least fire whatever grubby hippy made this joke and get someone with talent.

Yuck!
From a relatively straightforward idea that could have worked we get clumsy, ham fisted execution from someone that should stick to their day job. Looks like a bunch of ex student activest types had a meeting and tried to jam to many ideas they could into one minute thus diluting and watering down the importance of the issue a stake.

Who honestly gives a shit, it's like: 'oooohhhhhhh nooooooo! Someone deleted that recipe for TNT I posted up!'

You're struggling.
The Iranians give a shit because their governments oppression and murder of their own citizens were blocked from knowing about it.
The Chinese give a shit because most people under the age of 25 have been blocked from knowing about the Tienanmen Square Massacre...
You'll catch on... keep reading... keep discussing it and you'll begin to understand why it's important

FANTASTIC AD! SPOT ON!! *THUMBS UP*
Vote GETUP for Australia's next political party!!! At least some dare to speak the truth and represent current popular community beliefs!
"As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation." -Adolf Hitler

People fight for your given rights, censorship is starting to grow on a BIG scale right now, australia, germany, britain, sweden, even the US, the "modern democratic" governments are affraid of something that is made and shaped by the people, the internet, something that by definition used to apply to their land/nation there live in.

blad3runn69 2 years ago 5
Ok, apparently there's a no-link policy, silly me.
Anyway, if you have a quick squizz around, you'll find that total surveillance and data-matching is nigh and this poxy firewall is chickenfeed compared to the future potential for cover-ups, corruption and harassment etc. Even Obama supports warrantless wiretapping and we lack even US privacy protection. Look at Iran to see how idiotic and vicious regimes can be when they're scared of losing their grip. Its about power not the public interest.

Why did youtube censor my comment on this video yesterday? Was it because I had a link to privacy international??
sprayonpantz 2 years ago
If you post a link, add a space before/after slashes and dots.
Like this: . privacyinternational . org
RachelBartlett 2 years ago
It doesn't work because people click the "Spam" button on your post. If you want to include information from another site, say what your point is then say "More information can be found on Privacy International's site" and people can look it up on Google.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
The idea is good in theorie, like communism, but it's also blocking free speech, like comunism. If you've cheecked out some of the things they're blocking... i mean the kid sex is understandable but the rest of it

Thank you for posting this video, this filter is a complete failure. The government has no right to control what we say online, will cost billions and in the end, will be beaten...Who will monitor those who monitor us?

I hope the goverment faggots don't censor the basic right to information. How can a bunch of old farts decide what one can view or not.
Plain BS.
