  • cuff down is best for me

  • Ah, but you don't have to mess about picking up stitches on a short row heel, and it is really pretty when you use self-striping yarn. ;)

Also, I prefer DPNs over circulars. Anyone with me there? :D

  • I think the heels on the top down socks are superior. I've tried the toe-up, but I still prefer the traditional way.

  • Why knit ONLY how about those of us that CROCHET our socks!? Oh and I prefer toe up with an afterthought heel,in case you are wondering.

  • Cool video! Really gets my attention. But I believe that toe-up is bound to win in the long run. Especially now that we know how to do two-at-a time on one needle. The old fashioned way is doomed to lose the contest

  • So funny!! Love this!

  • For a REAL winner try Cat Bordhi's 'Personal Footprint" pattern for toe ups.. and I am formerly a committed Top -Downer.

  • I learned top down and like that method...I wouldn't mind trying toe up to use scraps up though. Now how about the debate between short row heel vs. the flap heel? Short row is my favourite!

  • Flap heel! I think they wear better, and I love the neat way they look.

  • I've never tried toe-up socks, but also never considered that it gives the option of a higher calf! What a great idea! Think I'll use some scrap yarn (left from cuff-down socks) and give toe-up a try. Thanks...

  • I think Toe up wins. I've made many pairs of socks, but going cuff down tends to leave yarn. It's hard to gauge how much yarn there is, so going toe up lets you use all of the yarn if you want longer leg length.
