@londonjig He was the best featherweight in the world during his prime. He was unbeatable until he had a bad injury and he hasn't been the same since. And he has only fought once in the UFC against the guy who's about to fight for the title.
5 clean unanswered punches with genki unable to defend himself which would have only got worse with each punch...maybe a few seconds earlier than some other fights but still a reasonable stoppage. ppl who say "ref paid" or whatever bulllshit clearly know nothing about the sport.

There was proabably onlu 10-20 seconds of the round also.. he coulda held him off for that long and gone to round 2 atleast if ref didnt stop.. i wont say genki woulda won though. kid did a damn good job preventing rubber gaurd. couldnt even get his arm on the canvas to take the next step
Sudo was rocked but was a bit of an early stoppage. Would not of made a difference as Kid at this time was a beast and was outclassing Sudo on the feet. Shows how much balls Kid has being a natural 135lb fighter fighting a top 155lb guy like Genki

Kid landed a few strikes but more precise of course. However, whether or not it made a difference, you should consider over 90% of Sudo's fights were won by submission, despite his K-1 background. The fight was going to the ground, and he was still intelligently struggling against the strikes. Had the ref not premature'd, I'd say Sudo by submission.

Also fought Rani Yahya who is a very good grappler as well and knocked him out with soccer kicks. Kid beat Bibi as well and knocked him out as well. Kid is a hard guy to sub and is really explosive. If the ref let it keep going you would have seen a rocked Genki eating unnecessary bombs going for subs

Overseas in Japan, most of the fights are so fixed by organized crime that Kid winning this was good for business because he was undefeated at the time. Seconds after going to the mat, the ref called the fight. Genki's eyes were still focused on his opponent, he wasn't stunned.

Refs number one job is to make sure that the fighters are safe. If you would rewatch the part where Genki was downed, he was not able to defend himself at all, never mind "intelligently". Kid Yamamoto was getting clean shots to the head, and in my opinion, the ref did his job and safed the fighter.

sudo didnt get robbed, i don't see how he got robbed when kid had him down and started beating him. about 70 percent of the time, when player is on the ground unguarded the most of the time, Opponent (kid) wins.

Not remembering doesn't mean anything. Remember, mma relies on instinct as well. When someone has wobbly legs, they are not out. Imagine if Fedor got called TKO'd against Fujita because he has wobbly legs. I think I can get the copy of this fight and maybe we can discuss though.
@odus Hey man. I think people are going to have different opinions about the ending of this bout. I can see arguments going both ways. That said, I think if you look at this objectively you'd have to admit it was a somewhat early stoppage. Was it early enough to say Genki was "robbed?" Probably not. The most salient facts are: Genki didn't argue the stoppage, and (since he's retired) there won't be a rematch. Anything else is speculation.
Terrible stoppage, but I am fairly confident to predict Yamamoto's win, he knocked him down with the punch and proceded to beat Genki's head, even if Genki recovered from that, he would be at quite a disadvantage. especially with Yamamoto's amazing striking
@MrStoneClark Yea from the looks of things on this vid the stoppage looked premature, but I saw a short documentary on this fight and at the end of the fight they replayed the stoppage from a different camera angle and you can see genki sudo was hurt/stunned on one of the punches where it looked like he went limp. Also after the fight was over when he stood up he was wobbling over to the ropes and had to grab it. Anyways, I think it wouldn't have gone on much longer if the ref kept it going.

Genki would have been able to beat Kid I think. Looking at Kid's recent fights, it is apparent he isn't as immortal as some people thought he would be. It used to be people thought he was king of the featherweight world and world pwn Faber, Brown and other fighters of that tier. His ground game isn't that good, and his MT is far from excellent.

What made KID so great was he was fighting opponents who are one or two weight classes above him and destroying them. The only weaknesses I saw with him was his weak jaw and at times gets too wild with his standup. Now due to a bad knee injury and aging, he's definitely not the same fighter.

There have been a lot of wrestlers who work sub defense and master the decision win, there is nothing skillful about that. Kid did have a glass jaw, and he was wild. Other weaknesses that appear now are his conditioning and his mental state. If someone walks him down he breaks. Much like Rameau Thierry Sokodjou in that respect.

Camera angle sucked, but it sure looks like an early stoppage. Genki's head was up looking like he's defending himself and the ref stops it. Usually the persons head's on the ground. Really need those close up face shots to really tell how he was doing though.
The ref screwed up here, totally. There wasn't much of an answer in terms of punches, but he was trying to block and take a defense fine enough. Maybe if that situation had gone on for 10-15 seconds longer...

Maybe your not that familiar with the "japanese style" of refering. I recommend you to watch at least "Sakuraba vs. Zelg Galesic" or vs. Smirnovas, and see what happens in the end - it's normal for them let the fights go on and on even if the guys are not properly defending themselves.
Genki's legs are in a normal position, he put them up to protect himself and try to get Yamamoto in his guard - his eyes are open and his legs are ok, he holds Yamamoto when he jumps on him during his celebration

He couldn't walk to his corner? I didn't see anyone helping him to stand up, he looks pretty ok and smiley after the fight and absolutely conscious.
Saku's fight against Smirnovas was his K-1 HERO'S debut and to be an easy win. If Saku lost against this nobody, it would've seriously hurt K-1. Also, when Saku is getting beat up, he tells the referee he is okay (except for Smirnova fight). Oh and Saku is a legend in MMA. It's favoritism. And KID has done so much for K-1 compared to Sudo.

@odus i dunno... i saw the actual event and I thought it was an early stoppage. though that was years ago and I may be biased. I watched the replay (not shown here and shots weren't clean).
Not remembering doesn't mean anything. Remember, mma relies on instinct as well. When someone has wobbly legs, they are not out. Imagine if Fedor got called TKO'd against Fujita because he has wobbly legs. I think I can get the copy of this fight and maybe we can discuss though.

@odus Hey man. I think people are going to have different opinions about the ending of this bout. I can see arguments going both ways. That said, I think if you look at this objectively you'd have to admit it was a somewhat early stoppage. Was it early enough to say Genki was "robbed?" Probably not. The most salient facts are: Genki didn't argue the stoppage, and (since he's retired) there won't be a rematch. Anything else is speculation.

Terrible stoppage, but I am fairly confident to predict Yamamoto's win, he knocked him down with the punch and proceded to beat Genki's head, even if Genki recovered from that, he would be at quite a disadvantage. especially with Yamamoto's amazing striking

@MrStoneClark Yea from the looks of things on this vid the stoppage looked premature, but I saw a short documentary on this fight and at the end of the fight they replayed the stoppage from a different camera angle and you can see genki sudo was hurt/stunned on one of the punches where it looked like he went limp. Also after the fight was over when he stood up he was wobbling over to the ropes and had to grab it. Anyways, I think it wouldn't have gone on much longer if the ref kept it going.

Sudo was not defending himself in any form when he got knocked down. Sudo knew he couldn't fuck with KID which is why he wasn't clowning around like he does in his other fights. And this is coming from someone who's a huge fan of Sudo.

Genki would have been able to beat Kid I think. Looking at Kid's recent fights, it is apparent he isn't as immortal as some people thought he would be. It used to be people thought he was king of the featherweight world and world pwn Faber, Brown and other fighters of that tier. His ground game isn't that good, and his MT is far from excellent.

LOL that you believe a fighter is still the same fighter he was in the past. The fact that KID went to the ground with Bibano and not get submitted displays how good his BJJ defense is. What made KID so great was he was fighting opponents who are one or two weight classes above him and destroying them. The only weaknesses I saw with him was his weak jaw and at times gets too wild with his standup. Now due to a bad knee injury and aging, he's definitely not the same fighter.

@odus lol at caps lock KID. Joe Warren fucking pwned him and so did Kanehara. There have been a lot of wrestlers who work sub defense and master the decision win, there is nothing skillful about that. Kid did have a glass jaw, and he was wild. Other weaknesses that appear now are his conditioning and his mental state. If someone walks him down he breaks. Much like Rameau Thierry Sokodjou in that respect.

Camera angle sucked, but it sure looks like an early stoppage. Genki's head was up looking like he's defending himself and the ref stops it. Usually the persons head's on the ground. Really need those close up face shots to really tell how he was doing though.

The ref screwed up here, totally. There wasn't much of an answer in terms of punches, but he was trying to block and take a defense fine enough. Maybe if that situation had gone on for 10-15 seconds longer...

Maybe your not that familiar with the "japanese style" of refering. I recommend you to watch at least "Sakuraba vs. Zelg Galesic" or vs. Smirnovas, and see what happens in the end - it's normal for them let the fights go on and on even if the guys are not properly defending themselves.
Genki's legs are in a normal position, he put them up to protect himself and try to get Yamamoto in his guard - his eyes are open and his legs are ok, he holds Yamamoto when he jumps on him during his celebration

So they have special rules for Sakuraba in Japan? I never noticed that, really funny. Many fighters have received much more than 3 clean punches on the face and still managed to come back and win the fight, what yes, makes the stoppage ridiculous (no matter what Sudo said later). He couldn't walk to his corner? I didn't see anyone helping him to stand up, he looks pretty ok and smiley after the fight and absolutely conscious.

Saku's fight against Smirnovas was his K-1 HERO'S debut and to be an easy win. If Saku lost against this nobody, it would've seriously hurt K-1. Also, when Saku is getting beat up, he tells the referee he is okay (except for Smirnova fight). Oh and Saku is a legend in MMA. It's favoritism. And KID has done so much for K-1 compared to Sudo.
