Anna Wintour isn't german or a designer, but Pia has worked with Coco Chanel.

Edna (and, yes, it is Mode) is modeled after nine time Academy Award winner for Costume Design, Edith Head. Brad Byrd gave her a bit of a Japanese look and she has a bit of a German accent. Axis, anyone? She can't say her r's very well, just like my brother when he was a kid.

In preproduction he voiced the character untill they cast an actress, but everyone involved found it so funny that they convinvced him to do edna himself.
