  • Wtf guys, can't I watch a guitar/pedal demo without seeing the comments turn into either a political discussion or racist ranting?

  • Just got my 3rd Wampler Pedal today. The Ego Compressor. Thanks Bret although I was a Wampler freak beforehand. I quit using a compressor some time back. Now having matured in my playing and technique in Jazz Fusion I can dig the effect again. Compressor on a clean, or w Vibe, or chorus, + delay, or + reverb, is a thing of beauty. Wampler is easily the best compressor you are going to get, I love it. If I had just 1 pedal to choose from on my uber board it would be this one.

  • feck sakes all this talk bout a t shirt,...who cares show me the goodies...i just got my ego compressor today and its the daddy of them all. i was using an mxr super dyna comp.wat a load of balls you could get a better tone using a corn flakes box lol. think i'll take the hammer to it it was that poor. great demo boss and you wear watever t-shirt ya like..PRICKS

  • Thanks Burgs for the demos!! My ego compressor arrived in the mail yesterday and i LOVE IT!!

  • gotta get myself one so bad!

  • this vs the new empress compressor? they seem like close competition

  • Still working through the tones on my new Ecstasy drive and pondering my next Wampler pedal. I am thinking this puppy is next up since I have the drive issue settled. A very great compressor with transparent quality, Wampler is making famous, no drastic squeeze compression, best sounding one I have heard. I am a Strat man and I do not do country but Wampler brings it for the tones I like from all sorts of Trower to Jeff Beck Fusion. It helps to have a good amp. Nice work again Brett!!

  • Well done ... that pedal realy does sound good ... actually like the way it sounds best when the blend knob is past noon ... you go bro!

  • What's with the murderous revolutionary communist t-shirt? I never get those that celebrate the deaths of hundreds of thousands of human beings that were killed at the hands of these monsters. But I digress... nice pedal.

  • @2bapilot The T-Shirt is a visual joke. If you look closely you will see that they're all there with party hats, whistles, cocktails, etc. "Communist Party". Get it? I don't know how many times I've had to explain this..

  • @Burgerman666 Love the T-shirt Burgs, if you're tired explaining it to people, just send it to me!

  • @2bapilot what have you got against communists lol

  • @2bapilot US t-shirt is murderous revolutionary too? United States bring democracy with the bombs, don't forget this. 20 years past from USSR collapse and United States kills thousands of people...

  • @Gray2Serge USA = USSR Freedom and democracy = Statist dictatorship... Got it. Great pedal however... I wonder if a guitarist in Cuba could get one? LOL

  • @2bapilot As opposed to the hundreds of thousands killed to sponsor capitalism in the form of the military/industrial complex, eg Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

  • @burgerman666

    Did u go Alnico 5,3 or 2?

  • @sroberts408 5's ...I think! You'll have to ask Mick. I just play 'em and don't even ask anymore as I know they'll be fantastic.

  • @burgerman666

Awesome review. Im getting this ped:-)

I have a 1996 tele, just had the neck oiled:-)

    Your tele sounds sweet:-)

  • hi brett, out of this and the burgs, which one acts as better as a clean boost (in terms of volume)? what are the differences in tone/quality? and which would better suit my les paul?? cheers! :D

  • @aektzis91 I prefer this one for a Les Paul because it has more headroom. The Burgs (at least the version I have) tends to squash too much with the humbuckers in front of it. However, I know that Brian Cale was aware of this and I believe he's improved the Burgs to better accommodate humbuckers. However, I cannot verify this as I haven't had a chance to try one yet. At the moment though, this one rules and I don't travel without it.

  • @Burgerman666 sorry to keep bugging you mate, but do both pedals have a substantial volume boost with the output maxxed?

  • @aektzis91 Yep, tons of extra volume available from both. :)

  • @Burgerman666 (and @aektzis)

I can verify that the Burgs comp is now more accommodating to humbuckers. Brian has equipped the newer ones with an input volume knob, which makes it easy to dial in the comp for a particular guitar.

Having said that, I agree with Brett that the Wampler may be a trifle more suited to humbuckers than the Burgs is, if only because of the blend knob.

Both are great comps, that's why I have both on my board. :-)

  • Hello Burgerman,

like MrRokkas previously asked, what's that slightly pulsating part of the sound? Is it due to the compressor and part of what compressors do (besides what you really want, adding sustain etc.)? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm an effects noob, especially about compressors...

  • @SidHenderson Yeah, I had another listen to this vid with some cans, and I think it's a mixture of the comp threshold and also YouTube's audio compression algorithm at work. I upload the audio files as 24bit WAV but I think they get squeezed back to something like 192kb mp3 which wouldn't help. Other than that, I'm at a loss to explain.

  • For what i can understand it's amazing.

  • Whats that wooshy , pulsating sound ?

  • What's up with the Communist mass murders Hall of Fame Shirt?

They killed about 100 Million people.

  • @Azhle1 Yes. I know. It's a joke shirt. 'Communist Party'. See? They have party hats and whistles and party stuff and...I don't know why I bother..

  • Best Compressor Pedal in the world ! ? $200,-

  • @luckluc It is for me. :)

  • Love the demo man...nice to se someone other than Brian put some nice effort into making a great demo video...thumbs up! keep em commin.

    cheers!

  • Vids just keep getting better ,Burgs..

    Straight-up review by straight-up guy... guitar-age!!

Missed your leading lady on this one. :wink

  • Cheers Dave. You'd better start making some soon I think - I'm not sure how many I have left in me! :)

  • best shirt ever

  • Skyhooks at the beginning! Nice!

  • Yeah, Shirl was a drinking buddy in the years before he passed away. And Bongo has always been a mate, too. Loved that band.

  • You just get around then, dontcha? ;)

  • Communist party...nice.

  • Hey Burg! How would you rate this compressor as far as quietness go?Thx

  • Very good. For the amount of squeeze it is is capable of it remains incredibly quiet. This is a big plus with the old single coils. 10/10 in that department. Actually, 10/10 in all departments. I really like this compressor. A couple of well-know Aussie guitarists have already written me asking where they can get hold of one..

  • Great sounding pedal, love it !!!

  • When will the beautiful SG be used for demoes? But nice pedal nonetheless!

  • Parallel compression! It is nice to see a compressor with a blend knob, thats the first time I have ever seen it in a pedal! I would assume that it would not come cheap, but damn that thing sounds good!
