For long distance I would recommend the M1A. 308 cartridges are heavier and with a higher powder charge, plus the M1A's just a more accurate rifle.

if you want long distance you should try the savage 110BA chambered in 338 lapua that will put you out around 1600m accurately

I too am a long distance shooter. Suggestion, when it comes to optics for accuracy, you can't fudge on quality. I ended up with a Leupold 3.5 to 10 with micrometer adjustments. Believe it or not, I'm now able to put bullets inside bullet holes. This may also be attributed to a 26.5" chrome molly steal barrel. I also choose the .270 because it shoots flatter and faster at long range with more devastation then the .308 which is also available in any ballistics table with a 140 gr. bullet.

Man Im movin to the states, what a sweet rifle. Here in Oz we need a special licence for a semi auto near impos to get. For most of us its bolt action no more than 10 rnd mags. I got nothin against the bolt action rifle dont get me wrong but it would be nice to be able to get sweet weapons like this :(

eh I don't think it's really THAT front heavy, if you have a problem with the weight of the Quad rail then maybe you need to work on your arms, and the advantage of that extra weight is very low recoil. Now i will say I am considering getting a 551 front handguard like on the regular classic except swiss made for more utilitarian times when i want lower weight. The patrol model is nice if front weight it really an issue.

That's easy, its not a sniper rifle. I had an eotech knockoff that I kept this is a swat set up more so for breaching or 100 yard skirmishes. See my mini sniper set up video if you want to see a sniper rifle.

Go with the FN, it is a great weapon, and FN (for a price) will give you a chart of ballistics for various brands of ammo and load outs. It is super accurate.

consider a SAKO TRG in 338 Lapua for known distances of 1K and beyond. For a 308 you might want to look at building one if you have a good smith. Rem700 action, Krieger or an HS Precision heavy weight barrel on a McMillan stock.

Selling the SIG... That's a painful experience... I couldn't do it. But wanting to get into long range shooting - that's a worth goal. And your right. The SIG's little 5.56mm cartridge just doesn't have it for long range shooting.

You don't have to spend an awful lot for LR shooting.

Take a GOOD HARD LOOK at the CZ 750 Sniper. From one Gun Dealer to another - it's the best bang for the buck for a precision rifle. I retail them for 1899.

You should've just went out and got yourself a Sig 556 DMR. It IS still a 5.56, which may be a little small, but it's a lot better for distance shooting than a shorter barreled sig. At any rate, good luck with your next "prospect", be sure to let us know what you pick up.

Yes I did consider the DMR but yes the caliber is a bit small I am looking to get double use out of it as well. Sport/Hunting. I just spoke with my rep for FNH USA so that may be the next toy. looking into the SPR line.
