I had a train set when I was a kid. Having one as an adult seems really nerdy but as I get older, I need more escapism from this troublesome world & I can definitely understand the emotion behind a model railway. I'm seriously thinking about building one in the loft so I can shut myself up there and be king of my own little world & go back to the days I remember.
I have a SouthWest Digital decoder in the front and a Howes decoder in the rear power car. Neither capture the Valenta scream in quite the way I would like, but the Howes decoder has the edge I think.
Good work, I like it how you have done the trialling camera shoots. I will have a go at that at some point see if I can replicate a smooth follow. I was going to invest in another sound decoder, but went with point motors and new decoders instead, but wonder if I should of gone for sound after watching you videos.
Many thanks for your thoughts on this. Just another thought, wonder when Hornby will get round to doing a sound decoder fitted HST?? If they do, wonder how good it'll sound?? Cheers.

Nice one. So which would you say is best if you had to choose just one decoder out of the two?? Like the sun shade in the rear cab, nice touch. 5*

on balance, I think the Howes decoder. BUT, neither of them have got it exactly right, in my view.
