it didn't blow up what happened was the residual thrust after shut off from the new engine was slightly longer then expected and the first stage recontacted the second stage putting it into a tumble.
If the delay from shut down to second stage separation was just two seconds longer it should have worked.
I feel the forth attempt should be successful since the staging hardware worked fine otherwise.

they've only lost three flights. Still a better record than NASA or the Soviet efforts. And they're learning each time.
What's awesome is right after the failure, investors responded by injecting *more* funding to help them along!:)
