todays date 9/3/11 TEN YEARS AGO THOSE COWARDLY BASTARDS HIT US. I'M SURE MR. CALE HATES THEM AS MUCH AS ANYONE, AMERICAN OR NOT. MAY ALL THOSE BASTARDS REST IN HELL.
Once one has lots of falls in life one starts to believe in a divine being because mortal man has failed any expectations one has of salvation, faith or hope.
This song alway smakes me cry. Seeing this video just made me cry even more. My brother was a firefighter who lost his life in the twin towers. I honestly don't care if he's Welsh or if this song has nothing to do with those events, it's just inspiring, moving in a way that not many songs can do.
I just lost my father 11 days ago. He was a vietnam veteran. We were very very close.
I think that the video maker wants to illustrate that the Creator was there to comfort us on the mess that WE humans made on 9-11.
That the vid comes off as hyper-patriotism is understandably a bit revolting since it is the vacuum of sound thought after 9-11 that created so much more violence and so many more brothers were lost due to such foolishness
This was in a Scrubs episode once. Where each dr. had a diff patient and each one died simultaneously as this song played in the background. I work in medicine and that scene and this song always bring a small tear to my eye.
this is by far trhe best version. Even's better than Buckley's. I don't know about the video though. What has America got to do with it. Especially when he's Welsh.
@sonofsilence Point, but I'm sure the video is for the song itself, not the singer. Righteousness knows no nationality when all are under one kingdom.
@CainTheMain considering the song has a leniency toward being about bondage as Leonard Cohen intended then it's hardly about righteousness. Don't be fooled by the chorus.
I'm not really religious in any way, but was truly moved by this video- brought me to tears! I love this song and I think the images really show a contrast between the beauty and the suffering that exist in the world...
I also love Jeff Buckley's version. The video is a great tribute to a man with an amazing voice.
Still love the original by Leonard Cohen the best!!!!!

I really doubt that John Cale is happy about this video since he is not American and
he is intelligent enough to be against what US doing to others.

I prefer KD Lang's version. Less piano more voice.

There are a lot of covers of this song and all sounds even. This one not. That's why this is the best version (for me).

John Cale is brilliant, so too is Leonard Cohen.

When we lift the lowliest person on this planet to the highest standard with compassion and praise we shall all be in hallelujah!
In Christ , I am! Amen

Thanks for the post, best version. Lower BPM makes it more emotional, he really grinds it out.

@megzmeg10 despite the title, this song isn't really a particularly religious song. just listen to the lyrics. but yes, it's a beautiful, moving song
