when it comes down two it, what brung the pilots home, the looks or the performance, the mustang is faster than the spitfire, the mustang climbs faster than the spitfire, the mustang can out turn the spitfire, but, the spitfire is combat hardend, it has alot more firepower, has a better roll rate especualy the clipwing. both aircraft legands that have earned there tightles.
Sorry but the mustang could not out turn a spitfire. the only things that could out turn a spitfire were the oscars and zeros from japan. i don't think the mustang could out climb the spitfire either, it has a heavier airframe. The best bit about the mustang was its range, most ilots regarded it inferior in a dogfight to the spitfire.
very close comparison, i think the p-51 has better lines looks fast even just sitting there, but the spitfire looks meaner than the stang, but i have to go with the mustang only because its my fav. plane

Merlin engine, same as Spit?
