Only letting the "best" into the profession is nonsense as well. Best according to whom? Great teaching is a product of many factors, and is available to ALL teachers! The breakthrough in student and school success will occur when as a system we make accessing each teacher's greatness a priority instead of judging and forcing.
Let's fire the bad teachers! That is nonsense. It is tactically impossible and morally objectionable. A better and more practical approach is to look more carefully at the persons entering the field. Studies from around the world have shown that the countries with the best educational systems have one thing in common: They only let the best people into the profession. Mr. Daniels makes no mention of this!
