I honestly don't care for most viking/folk metal, yet I won't say anything negative about it. But I have to ask, why are most viking metal bands so slow? Is there any faster ones? I mean like thrash/death metal fast. I only know of Eisifirum(sp?) and Finntroll and don't really care for them too much...

@myhood25 The Viking age came centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire... The Western and Eastern Germanic Tribes were the ones to invade the Romans. The Vikings were Norse and therefore North Germanic.

The Norse did not participate in the fall of the Roman Empire. As a matter of fact, when the Vikings Age did roll around, they were hired as bodyguards for the Byzantine Empire, the remnants of the Eastern Roman Empire.

When the Norse went to go conquer somebody, they sent their professional standing armies as invasion forces. @myhood25 They are no south Germanic peoples that I know of. The vikings that went down to the Byzantines went the "Varangian way." They were explorers and settlers and mercenaries. A lot of them settled in Russia and were hired in Russia. They were called Rus which is how Russia gets it's name. They weren't exactly Russians. The ones that were hired by the Byzantines were Norseman that were hired to protect the Emperor.

Yes, haladisch, it is the 20th anniversary this year. Should be awesome. Amon Amarth has also already confirmed. If Dimmu Borgir shows we've hit 3 of my favorite bands. WOA is the end of July through the first week of August, 2009. You've got plenty of time to plan it out so you make it. I'm thinking this is going to be a much larger crowd this year, too, so make your reservations early unless you're going to camp out. (I'm staying in a hostel, personally)
