  • So much love in the Youtube comments!! Makes my soul smile :)

  • Beautiful nappy hair! I bet it's hard to do them..

  • Not trolling, just asking a genuine question but doesn't all those tight bands pulling her hair make it very sore later in the day?

  • @TheMandaxx - if you did this on someone who had never had their hair done like this it would probably get irritating feeling by the end of the day - I know that I am always ready to take out my hair things (ponytail or whatever) by the end of the day. But my girls have been getting their hair braided and done like this since they were tiny and they don't even notice it.

  • keep up the good work kate! I use to do my daughter hair like that.... you are doing a great job ..thanks for teaching me the criss-cross

  • I am so... WOW! Can you do my daughters hair?

  • When I saw you bust out the coconut oil, girl I was so proud!!! I LOVE that you've committed to keeping your daughter's hair natural and are learning what it takes to do so! Beautiful. :)

  • You are doing an awesome job with your daughters hair!!! Love it!!

  • i love your model

  • I wish I had hair like that :( if I tried to do that with my white-person hair it would just fail.

  • I have been watching your vids for over 2 years and their hair has REALLY grown. I also love that you work with their natural texture instead of falling prey to the "creamy crack" (relaxer). Two thumbs up to you and keep up the phenomenal work.

  • I love the way u did her hair...but whats with all the haters that seem to know nuthing about hair in general. rubber bands are ok, you can perm if you so well please, gel is ok on hair as long as hair is moisturized correctly...come on guys have a brain, black hair is not dirty and it is not hard to style. Its just different than what you have on your own head. please refer to you-tuber kimmaytube, DearNaptural85, or BeautifulBrwnBabyDol if you really want to see how to take care of hair...smdh

  • how did you teach yourself to braid so good!?

  • PLS WATCH MY VIDEOS FOR LIL GIRL SASSY SWAG SILK HAIR WRAPS

  • It doesn't look like she has any hair pulled out from the rubber bands. How do you remove them without pulling her hair out?

  • whats easier to braid this style or the normal styles?

  • oh my!! that looks like it hurts!! i would hate to have hair like that.

  • @132435Sarah132435

I'm so sure..... it dosen't matter if you don't have hair like that it still would hurt because the type of hair style it is

  • i love your channel i have been a subscriber for a long time, my little girl goes to school everyday so very pretty thanks to you. so thank you so much for sharing your talent.

  • Don't use jell in her hair she is too young for it and it could damage her hair. Also the rubber bands you use aren't good for her either use the cloth bands ok. Other then that you are doing a really good job keeping her hair up. Her hair is growing really well.

  • nice partings .....ohh i didnt no tht it was so simple :)

  • You should flat iron it 1 day ibet her hair so long and pretty but make sure you DONT perm it

  • you do an excellent job, i have a son and daughter and is not good on hair. Keep up the good work. Do you stay in the dc metro area???

  • @greenyjdsf - Thank you, and I live in Michigan. I have never been to DC!

  • @greenyjdsf not good hair?

  • what made you want to adopt black children.

  • im so happy that you took the time to learn how to do their hair! i can not tell how many times i have seen white foster parents who have blk children, their hair is matted to their head dried out or broken off beyond repair! which i feel would lead to self esteem and possible self hatred in the children. you really need to produce a how to dvd! or more parents with black adopted children should know about you! you are incredible!

  • @carmellac2000 I agree with you big time! I meet a white adoptive parent at a birthday party who has a blk lil girl who needed help with her hair.

  • super cute hair style

  • Awww she's soo cute ;)

  • ahhh those sweet little rubber bands I HATE THEM. They always POP when I work with them. Maybe because Im very heavy handed lol This is awesome.

  • She's so beautiful girl!

  • Wonderful work.. This is a great idea! How lucky your girls are that you care so much for them.

  • Your daughter has really pretty hair.

  • I absolutely appreciate how you have mastered African hair, It pains me to see the adopted children here in Sweden going around with clumps instead of a healthy head of hair, I just want to grab them and fix it. Little B's hair has such wonderful condition! Great Job!

  • i as a black women and as a mother give u kodos for doing (ur daughter) i believe, her. i do hair as well. i know alot of ethnic females that can even do there kids hair as well as u do that baby's hair. u do the damn thing. and thanks. i have a new hair style to try on my daughter.

  • I would just like to say thank you for uploading these videos. They have helped me a lot in taking care of my daughter's hair. I recently learned how to do the yarn braids through one of your other videos and now I am going to try this style. My daughter had a very sensitive scalp so I can't really do any hairstyles that are tight like cornrows and the fact that I don't know how to cornrow is another reason. This hairstyle may work for her though. Thanks a bunch!!!

  • yes you better do it....her har looks so healthy

  • her hair is pretty..i wish u could do mine...lol

  • i love this! cant wait to try it on my little cousin's hair!

  • You are super great! I have been watching you're videos for like two years and I must say you improve every time. I hate when I read comments on your videos of peoples telling you that you should do this or that blah blah blah. You can clearly see your children's hair is healthy and clean.

  • Her Hair Looks Beautiful amd Healthy! Great Job MoM(-:

  • i love her hair! i wish i could have hair like that...

  • I love this style! I can't wait to try it. Thanks for the tutorial.

  • Hi - My foster daughter is 20 months old and really doesn't like her hair done. So slowly but surely I know she will work out of it. However, as I go on my own journey I have a big question. How do you brush/comb out her hair to make it straighter to work with? Did you give your girls a perm to straighten it out? Or is that you just pulling it straight? Any information would be most appreciated!! Barb

  • I love this style. I can't cornrow and I feared that my hair would get frizzy too fast if I just used rubberbands. So I braided all my sections to the end, then french braided the braids. I think its came out cute!

  • That poor little girl looks so miserable, shes beautiful, though!

  • how did you learn to do ethnic hair so well?

  • @smlt4everblessed - I learned out of necessity, I have 3 adopted children and we can't afford to pay someone else to do their hair so I taught myself how to do it. I do my sons hair too :)

  • beautiful child...

  • man tht girl haz got hair

  • omg dont make her perm it.

  • I think it's wonderful that you know how to take care of ethnic hair. You did a marvolous job with her hair. Smiles.

  • if you guys dont believe me then go 2 a hair stylist and i should know because i go 2 my auntie shop and they all talk about that

  • realy??

  • yep

  • omg thats great! your sooo talented. i wud not want this style for my hair as i dont like the bald patches but still it looks good! x

  • that little girl has some beautiful natural hair-good job with the hair care.

  • I love this I just can't get enough I keep watching more and more of your videos LOL

  • beautiful work! I give you 5 stars!

  • beautiful work! You are so talented! I give you 5 stars for the beautiful hairstyles tha t you do on your kids hair!

  • u are doing an amazing job witht there hair!!!!!!

try a wider tooth comb though

  • Excellent!

  • I have been sharing your vids with all of my gf's with young kids. It has helped me a lot with my daughter's hair (she's 3). She has special needs and it is hard to get her to sit still as she doesn't quite understand what I'm doing. As such, I can't always get a straight part or catch all of the hair (it's thin on the sides -- ideas for that?) Anyway, thanks so much! I have sisterlocs in my hair -- I would love to see your daughters' locs. Any new videos?

  • You are so talented! i wish i could get my parts as perfect as your always are. great videos and thanks for posting. i have so many ideas for my daughters hair now.

  • Excellent video!

  • ive been looking up a few videos on braids and there all white women doing the braids and black kids getting them lol

  • You do an excellent job with your girls hair! I think I HAVE FOUND A NEW BEST FRIEND :-) Iam a black mother and I don't even know how to take care of my daughters hair...I know how to do all the braids...but once I strayed away 4um natural N did the unthinkable (perm), it's been down hill 4um there. I just want 2 thank you for sharing your wealth with the public. You inspire me. Thank you!

  • Katelynlyn...you are such a blessing to me and my girls...thanks so much, and keep up the great work. I don't know where you get all of your information, but you are very informative. Techniques I've wished I'd known, you've given to me as a reality. Again, thanks sooooo much!!!

  • did you wash it first? Or did you not work in the oil enough? My girlfriend is black and she uses T-tree oil in her hair. Its really thick and healthy because she keeps her hair clean, her scalp moisturized, and her ends clipped. I hope that helps?

  • I also keep my girls hair clean, moisturized and trimmed :) If you are talking about the white you can see, it is just from the oil spray that I had just put in. You can't see it when it soaks in.

  • wow, you've got skills,

a lot of people should take notice and learn to care afro-hair instead of just perming and relaxing it

people from other websites are referring youg mothers who adopt black children to your youtube page... keep up the good work

  • Wow this great information! I thinks it's beautiful that you took the time to learn this for your adopted daughters. Our hair is really difficult to care for. God bless you.

  • I applaud your willingness to style hair different from your own. I have seen too many mothers that won't deal with their child's hair and result to using harsh chemicals to make it easier for them.

  • that is pretty cool, it looks good! i might try that on my daughters hair oneday

  • B,s hair looks magic wow ,, that is very cool

  • What type of spray are you using on your daughters hair?

  • she has beautiful hair. you are doing a wonderful job!!!!!

  • Yes my daughter is adopted, but I have never used "grease" in her hair. Unless you are referring to the coconut oil.

  • @Katelynylyn Keep it natural, my girls are mixed and we only use coconut or mainly olive oil....never tea tree, look up studies on tea tree oil. It's not good.

  • She doesn't use grease, thank god. She probably knows more about black hair then you do!

  • Thank you for keeping their hair up. Honestly, I see sooo many mixed kids (and adopted kids) with white parents that dont know how to take care of African American hair. NOT CUTE! Thank you for taking the time to learn, taking the time to care. Im a white woman and also know how to braid, people look at me crazy when they find out I can braid LOL! Keep up the good work! I might steal some of your designs :-)

  • I just noticed (5:52) that each side is different. One side has the RB's and the other side has individual braided sections without RB's. Am I mistaken?

You know I love your work Katelynlyn - you are a great inspiration and an excellent teacher. And I didn't realize you had 2 girls. Her hair is very healthy. You take great care of their hair. No traction alopecia or wriggling from heavy-handed pulling. <3

  • I have learned so much from your wonderful videos...I was wondering at what age did you start to see growth of your daughters beautiful hair?

  • I think you do a great job...my peeves are rubber band usage....yes GEL make build up along with alot of other problems....there are alternative such as pomade made by Keracare, Mizani, and Carols Daughter, etc....

  • I agree, I don't like to use rubber bands either, and only do it once in a GREAT while. The only reason I did the demonstration on it was because people had seen the picture of this style I did on my other daughter (where I had used RB) and they were all asking for instructions. If you watch the second video you will see that I did the same style with out RB, but with cornrows leading up to the big braids instead.

  • "miszgreen". First of all learn how 2 talk before you criticize. "You not even hold it right..."??? Where's your helpful tutorials to teach somebody what YOU THINK--is the the correct way??? Rightttttt...you have none. Back Up. Most of us agree on here...Katelyn, you good at what chu' do. The fact that you learned and keep yo' girls hair styles within their culture and heritage...is what I respect you for. It shows me you not only love them but embrace their culture. God Bless.

  • How do you learn to do hair like that....It looks really good and you always have REALLY cute styles

  • nice job mom..

  • harr isgetting so long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Her hair has grown so so much. Your doing a really good job!! she's so cute too. :)

  • Her hair looks soo healthy and shiny . Is the Coconut oil a big benefactor?

  • I am sure it helps - especially if I use it in place of gel when putting in the style. But I don't think it is the only reason. I only put the oil on her hair about once a month when I redo her style. See my channel for the products I use and my routine.

  • to itpaystobeme,

coconut oil does aid in hair growth,it will make your hair grow over time and coconut oil will provide your hair with nutrients/ vitamins. it's kinda like feeding the hair & very good for african american hair when used in the right amounts.

  • Aw this is so cute! I wish I had a little girl to try your style on.

  • it looks so cool for the summer! i will be trying it for sure!

  • Thanks so much! I love your detail explanation and demostrations. I have two girls, and have just learned to braid from watching your videos! Please keep them coming!

  • You are soo talented! I envy you! :-P I am african american and I cant even braid to the scalp! You put me to shame..lol Im glad you are doing this, because I need to learn! Thanks girl!

  • I can't braid period!

  • V's hair has really grown. Her hair is seriously beautiful!

  • I really dig your methodology, you explain the process step by step and that is tremendous for us learners

    Thanks so muc for posting!

and WOW look how long V.'s hair is getting, she is growing up!

  • Great idea! I am definately going to try that.
