I adore this video. I was born in NorCal but grew up from age 5 in Montebello. Dad went to Montebello Jr & Sr High, as did I. Remember the big old Ice Cream cone & the Pizza Place down the street from it On Whittier Bl? Ah, Heaven.
The 3 best places to eat? Garduno's, 2nd & Whittier Bl grease burger & if you're going to spend it, Steak 'n Stein. I also used to love going horse back riding at We-Ho under the bridge between P.R. & Montebello. That was way cool. Good Old Days.
Grew up in Whitter and graduated in '88. Started cruisin' with some older buddies and my older brother when i was about 15. We used to run from Tommy's to Arry's. Been shot at, done 140mph in a new Electric Blue Vette and met plenty of cool people along the 2.5 hour round trip on Thurs, Fri and Sat nites....this video brings back some great memories. Thanks guys.
use to be so much better in the late 80's and early 90's use to cruise in my CBR , was alot more packed then bumper to bumper and alot more bikes with the loud race pipes, use to race there too....man those were the good ole days....and the girls were HOT! carloads of 'em.
This is no where close to the cruising bumper to bumper that went from Goodrich to Eastern Ave in the late 60's,70's. Those were the days when if you got caught in traffic during crusing hours...oh well. So,so much fun getting stuck in traffic at the mid-nite hour on New Years Eve and Halloween....I absolutely loved the awesome cars and the socializing. I'm glad I lived during the time when The Blvd still had A&W Burger was the Kostafos hangout. This Blvd was our playground.
This was slow I agree, I took the video kicking it out there... I remember back in the day, I lived a few blocks off whitter so I would go and just kick it on the Blvd as a youngster!! Those were the days!!
I agree with Barrio it was Gang Bangers who fucked it up,My Mom use to tell me about cruising in Whittier, but she said violence killed it.Oh well wish I was around for the good ol' days.
This doesn't look like the original strip of Whittier Blvd from the 70's. The main strip for cruising was between Atlantic Blvd where the Million Dollar Theater is and the Cemetery.
It took over an hour to get from one end to the other and cars creeped at a snails pace. No offense to the guy who made this clip but the cruising looks pretty weak.
And for most of you who weren't born when the real cruising was going on, the cops didn't fuck it up for everyone. It was idiot gang bangers.
WTF are u talkin about it stopped years ago? im pretty sure i saw a toyota scion XB drive by on the street between 4:43 and 4:47. u act like its been fucken decades since they cruz, they still cruz, get ur facts straight b4 u speak on something u dont know anything about!
Damn this brings back memories...Id have to agree though they still cruise but it aint nothing like back in the early mid 90's.. Before the cops started fucking with everybody, man shit was bumper to bumper there were so many cars crusing..thanks for posting these.
