@korynnleefx so is the Bristols and Southern New England depressing as fuck glad I moved to Memphis in 93 then again Libertyland met the same fate or should I say Liberty Laugh or as I say six flags over Orange Mound (became hood later) 1976 - 2006. Rocky Point lasted longer then 30 Years. but when ya look at a bigger picture lots of amusement parks smaller then Six Flags have been wiped out all over the country or taken over by Six Flags :( or as I say Six Fags
I remember sooo many summers looking forward to going there..is the chowda house still there? (OMG chowda and clam cakes were awesome...) I tried a recipe that was supposed to be there's and it wasn't the same :-(
@fredqwan yes it isss! its one of the remaining buildings. the park is open to the public until sundown, but it's unfinished. if you walk along the path, you will see it eventually. :) the old summerhouses are still there in their abandoned state as well, and are reaaaaally creepy when the sun goes down...
@fredqwan damn I could go for some clam cakes hell they could be 2 weeks old and shitty made by the shittiest cook up there and I'd still devour them. if it's any consolation I got Lincolin Parks recipie I know I know not like Rocky Point but worth giving to anyone who would love the recipie
Tomorrow is the opening of the Rocky Point Walking Trail down by the water. They will still have the Midway Arch up, although it's severely rusted. That is all I know about it. It'll be nice walking on that property again.
I miss this place. I moved to Florida in 1987 and never got to go again. It was the highlight of my summers!! The Freefall terrified me. I never went on it.
I went to rocky point in the late 70s on a school field trip from boston,It took only that one trip and I can not forget that whole day .....that was very special day which I will never forget for the rest of my life...thanks for the memories rocky point...
These days, everything is closed or a franchise of 6 flags. I miss these old parks (Riverside, Whalom park (for a whale of a time) and Rocky Point were staples growing up). They all had their own personality.
come with your family come with your friends get some rocky point tradition cause it's summer time again rocky point it's so excitting rocky point where you can come and ride rocky point your all adventures there are summer times rocky point r.i.p. rocky point :(
If you were a camper at Camp Westwood and stayed for either 6 ot 8 weeks you were taken there for the day. We were fed in the shore dinner building and then went to the huge salt water swimming pool. Those were fantastic days! Then we all grew up :(
@loonmaniac well if you were really from the ri/mass area there were 2 other parks.Lincoln Park in Darthmouth Mass and the other one was in East Providence RI Cresent Park.Rocky Point bought them out and ran it into the ground so they would be the only one's left in the area.
@loonmaniac RP was what it was. It wasn't Disney World or even six flags....but a day at RP didn't cost a small fortune either, and you didn't need a week to do everything.
I remember when I was really little I visited this place. A co-worker of mine remembers actually working there!!! She thought it was fun.
One time, where I worked, we had a Rocky Point theme day party once where we re-created the Shore Dinner Hall and the amusement park games and everything, it was great! First prize for the winners: a bottle of Autocrat coffee syrup!
All bout politics i say they should someohow revive rocky point, who can afford to go to six flags now?? Rocky point was such a place to go to and i am so sad to see in such a horrible shape.. Many years of great memories and same as well for riverdale..
damn Politics I know Six Flags is too expensive unless you get a season pass and %65 percent of the families are only going there for one day and besides six fags blows adn should have stayed in TX.
But sadly you would have to charge $35 min just to go these days I'm researching ticket prices between six flags and Palace Ent. to get an average Right now both seem unaffordable unless the adopt some new tactics for these hard times
I feel ya SIx Flags will never have the feel of Bensons Lincoln Park Rocky Point Kennywood Ghost Town in the sky Ceder Point just to name a few (first 3 being closed of course) only thing I can think of to revive this place is send in letters and $ to palace ent.
@Fanik8 oh yea! I don't think Warwick is that far from Boston. Bout an hour and half maybe? I know alot of friends who got a chance to go. If it wasn't Rocky Point ads, it was Whalom Park, Canobie Lake, Riverside(now Six Flags New England) or Water Country
sadly, they coudn't compete with Six Flagg's and such...I KNEW summer was offically started when the commerecials came on tv....sadly, like youth, you can never go back....It is missed, like Cresent Park....times change, not all for the good.
mejoe73, okay, what is the story about the albino? Dont' forget about Cresent Park....it was smaller than Rocky point, no doubt, but it was a great place to be a kid....The merry go round, the flying fish...
tell me about the albino, I don't remember that story...
Does anybody remember the OLD radio commercial they used for YEARS?
"We've got your summer at Rocky Point"
I miss these old parks. I grew up close to Lincoln Park in Dartmouth, MA, but used to go to Rocky Point, Crescent Park in Riverside, RI, and Paragon Park in Hull.
I miss Rocky Point so Much there were so many memories made there for so many people. It was a great ammusment park I was 17 the year it closed. The closest ammusment park is 6 flags. But Rocky Point was great cuz youd always see people you knew there on any given day. And If you Met a girl there you didnt have to worry about her living 100 miles away from you. They should build another Rocky Point type park in RI again. But It'll never happen Cuz RI sucks.
OMG, this brings back such memories. I only went to the park a few times since we were closer to Lincoln Park, but I remember going to Rocky Point when I was a sophomore in highschool. I LOVED the freefall (even when it kept breaking) and the Corkscrew. I think there was also some ride not far from the flume ride called Music Express.
They also played the song from this commercial on 92 PRO FM all the time.
Rocky Point was a great place to go as a kid. It was'nt much but it was all we had and we loved it!!I still live in warwick and the only thing to around here now is to listen to the planes fly over head and watch them shake the crap out of my house!!Long live the shore dinner hall!!!!
Rocky Point was the place to be @ nite w/ friends, girlfriend or w/ family. Watching this video brings back the days of walking around enjoying the rides. Those days will never be forgotten.. Bring Rocky point back.
dude rocky point park is in warwick Rhode Island on narragensett bay where in the the hell did you get mexico from i used to live by conimicut point but sadly the only time i seen rocky point park was after it was destroyed which really sucks
My friends dad used to work on those rides also. His dads name is Ed Cayer maybe they know each other. Have you seen the rocky point dvd yet. Definately worth buying.
Those were the days i seen so many cool bands there glad i got to witness it before it dissapeared..what a shame..now look at what ri has to offer..money hungry jerks have ruined the world..
OMG!!! I cannot believe I remember that jingle (and all the words too). I was lip-synching along to it. :-)
I haven't heard this commercial in years, and even though I saw the news stories about the new documentary "You Must Be This Tall", it didn't remind me of the commercial until I found this video. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this, it made me cry! What memories. How many of us had our first date, first kiss, prom or wedding at Rocky Point? How many of us couldn' eat any food until we rode the last ride of the night ( The Flume)? LONG LIVE ROCKY POINT, and it will always in out memories, like Lincoln Park, Cresent Park, and Jolly Cholly's!
Yes it was. Route 1 in North Attleboro. Fond memories of my childhood. Some of the land was converted to apartment complex and the rest of it is just an abandoned lot. Across the street from Jolly Cholly's used to be Colstone's Family Restaurant, which was torn down about 6 years ago, and is now a McDonald's (ugh!).
Thank you for this....it made me cry! LONG LIVE ROCKY POINT! it wil live o as long as we never forget....How many of us had our first date? our first kiss? Our prom or wedding at the Pualladium? Couldn't eat anything untill we rode the flume9 which was always the last ride of the night)? Oh, Rocky point!
