I like Line 6 a lot and have used a lot of their gear, but I never really liked their Spider series much. For the small combo amps, I went with the Peavey and would highly recommend the Vypyr over the Spider series.
Depending Upon the model of the Vypyr amps Some are solid state but most of them use Peaveys "TransTube" Technology which allows the amp to sound like a tube amp without the tubes. The main grief I have with Line 6 tone is how artificial it can sound. The Peavey has a much more natural tone.
Peavey well over line 6. i have tried line 6 alot the peavey beat it in about 5 seconds lol... you can tell when u play the peavey it sounds real and its a modeling amp so yea way better than the digitel shit from line 6
What's the matter of how many effects the amp has. You aren't going to need them all. One channel amps are usually much better than digital modeling amps. Digitals have many settings but how many are you really using? The answer is one or two. One clean, one distortion. And built in FX are usually much worse than stompboxes and they just raise the amp's price. So really, if you like some amp model in your line 6, buy the amp that it's modeling. It's going to be more versatile and sound better.
i have played a line 6, not sure of what it was, it was one of the heads that go on a cabinet, a head? anyway, it sounds ok, but basically has one sound, thats it. there not overly good.
Dude let me save you years of discovery .... Just save up and get you a used Mesa Boogie MARK III red stripe and if you want more gain get a "dual resistafier" pedal. Both these amps peavey and line6 are all posers trying to be another amp. They may be good but never great. Also if you get a modular system like ... tube amp - speaker - pedals - switching system - all seprate parts, then you can try new things without having to buy another "all in one amp" it will help you grow as a guitarist.
Wow. I just bought a Peavey Vypyr like yesterday. It was either that or the Line6 Spider IV. But, I would choose the Vypyr because it has more effects on it. It's got a bigger feel to it too. Like it could just stomp on the Spider. So if ur ganna get a new amp, get a Vypyr. It's a great amp. Hope thi helped :)
This is such a coincidence. I just got a Peavey Vypyr! :) I also looked at a Line6 Spider IV. Both great amps but I settled of the Vypyr because it can do more that the line6. More effects, bigger tone, crunchier distortion. In my opinion, go with the Vypyr. Hope this helped :)
I used to play through the same amp you have. Then I got a peavey vypyr 15 watt. It was good, but I upgraded to the 30 watt to get the footswitch. BEST AMP EVER!!!! It's only 30 watts, but it packs a punch. I need to play below 1 at home, or it's too loud. I swear by that amp. Solid state amps get a lot of hate, but unless you're playing amphitheaters or stadiums, you really don't need a tube amp. I definitely recommend saving the money and getting a 30 watt. You can always mic it.
so to get the sound that i wanted that really good "Brown sound" i bought a marshall because they have that MARSHALL TONE THAT NO OTHER LINE 6 CAN GET. marshall are famous for that crunchy/metal sound and if you want that get a marshall im not hating on anyone or line its just in my opinion cheers :)
if this has anything to do with the subject... IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR IN A AMP. Ok. line 6. i have a line 6 spider IV valve amp i bought it when i was younger because i didnt know which sound i really liked, ive had it for about 2 years and its great theres nothing wrong with it, the are a good brand. but the line 6 can only emulate the sounds of different amps ive discovered my "tone" and after i did i realised that it dosent cut it anymore.
I had a Line 6 Spider III 15 watt and sold it because the sound wasn't rich enough, sounded kinda flat. But, I really liked the RANGE of sounds it had. I wanted to get something bigger, so I bought a new Marshall MG 30FX yesterday. Big mistake. The Marshall name shouldn't even be on this thing, I am not impressed. I was able to test the Peavey Vypyr at the store and I'm returning the Marshall tomorrow for a VYPYR. After playing with the VYPYR, it's definitely the best out there. It's awesome!
I run them both in stereo and they sound great! go check some of my videos when I play both in stereo.I have to say that if I have to choose one to use over the other ,it would be the line 6!.
Peavey is the better amp. Line 6 products are horrible. You have to hope you do not have problems with Line 6, their customer service is beyond bad. Peavey has excellent customer service, and the people on the Peavey boards are knowledgeable and will help you with any questions you have.
I've heard a range of amps, and if you're only looking between 15W - 75W for a good price, I definitely recommend the Vypyr series. I bought a 15W version last year as a kick around amp, and yesterday I went and bought the 30W. I've heard Line 6, Peavey, Marshall, Orange, the whole 9 yards. Unless you go into stacks, (which I would use a Peavey 6505 through a Mesa 4X12 straight cab) Peavey is the best to go.
I've used line6 amps and I think you are better off with a cardboard box and a wailing retard inside.. I bought a Vypyr Tube 120 today an upgrade from a Fender 90watt, and its got fantastic warm clean tones. I run a Boss OD-20 on the MT-2 modeling for some chunky metal distortion.. and it sounds fantastic. I feel like a kid on xmas morning.
These amps are more for kids who want to practice at bedroom levels and that's it. Even the higher watt versions of these amps. If you are playing shows, I'd go with a higher end peavey like the 6505 or the JSX. I almost bought the line 6 valve amp before I bought my Peavey JSX. Very glad I didn't because it just sounds like pure ass. But if I were practicing in my room, I'd go with the vypyr, sounds way better than Line 6.
i just got a Peavey Vypqer 15 watt and i'm not nuts about digital modelling amps, i wish i'd just got a Marshall or an Orange tiny terror. What an ungrateful bastard i am.
I shoul mention i play an esp ltd with active emg's a 60 neck and an 81 bridge,i also have a hamer centaura with 2 singles and a humbucker in the bridge all seymore duncan, the tones are rich and clear, its not as chunky as the esp but still has great sound, also my elec/acustic yamaha compass sounds sweet as hell on the clean settings,so i guess from crunch to clean the vypyr will do it all.
I bought the 60 watt my buddy has the 120,and if you are a metal guy u shant be dissapointed, the recto preset is a an justice ringer,im really happy with the sound,it dosnt have that cheap tone thay gets all distorted with volume
Do not listen to the people who have commented before me, ok? -Yesterday i went to my local instrument shop, and they had both the peavey vypyr 75w and the line 6 75w/120w. I tested them both, and the line 6 sounds harsh and has to much tremble to it, if you know what i mean, the sound is like boring, in one way. But then i tested the peavey and i got blown away. I though that since they both were 75 watt the difference between them was small. The peavey has a MUCH "richer" and "warmer sound!..
@pkmChris More watts =/= better tone. More watts = loudness. I Agree that the sound of Spider isn't that great. It lacks the "presence" of the amp (I don't know about newer Spiders but I have heard that there isn't really much difference in sound between the older and newer Spiders). It doesn't feel right. And It lacks the balls of the real sound. It's kind of dry or flat (I think that's what people call a digital sound). So it lacks the richness and warmth. Dunno bout Vypyr, haven't tried.
Ok so i just got a Line 6 and i love it, but the problem is is that i cant use my distortion pedal with it cuz i keep getting alot of background noise (I cant really describe it, I'll prob post a vid about it). So if ur 1 of those people who likes to use different sounds, which will include different pedals, i would probably recommend not getting a line 6 unless u know how to fix this problem. my friend had a line 6 and just now got a peavey and he LOVES IT!!!!!!!
Bought vyper today its a great amp, sounds awsome, line 6 is $300 bucks more and after playing both i went with the better and cheaper amp,the pedal $120 is a must and worth it
@mrmcriff I use an ENGL Powerball through my Mesa 4x12, lol. So I honestly laugh when I see any kind of Peavy (except for a 5150) or Line6 of any sort at a show.
you don't need a 75 watt, The Peavey Vypyr 30watt would be fine. I have the vypyr 30, and I have my dad complaning to turn it down, while it is on 1. and the master goes to 13. So the 30 is really freakin loud
@guitarhero31333 75 is for concerts, it can sound really loud your amp, but if you turn up to 10 it will sound like shit, is the thing. Amps are not suposed to turn to the maximun.
you should look at buying something like this and you should be nearly set also it might be expensive but that's just reality search for Marshall jmd100 its a hybrid amp it has great sound has presets what you can customize and u get the picture
Line 6: Pretty good Metal preset. But that's it only one. Line 6 is better for bedroom practice. Plus, it sounds TERRIBLE, and i can not stress how much i mean it. It sounds terrible with a full band.
Peavey: Better for practice with band/small and medium gigs/and just messing with your neighbors. That beast is loud. It has a variety of effects and even has a chromatic tuner built in. It's an overall great amp.
But if you do go with the Line 6, man up and get their freakin' half stack.
Get the vypyr 75!!!! both are solid state btw with the Vypyr you can save your preset settings and shit all in the amp, and if you get the sanpera you can save even more and put them on the stomp boxes. The LED's on the vypyr make it easy to always get the exact same setting. But mainly what i like is the different amp settings/ effects on the vypyr and how you can save them into the amp.. well that and the sound is awesome.. ohh shi you posted this 2 years ago you prob bought one already
Just don't get a vypyr 15 watt the speaker is shit and I can't really get many good tones out of it, at first I thought it might be my guitar but I up graded to a dean ml atf3000 and still doesn't sound the best. But from what I hear the 30 is a lot better than the 15.
i used to have line 6 and i thought it was pretty good bt it just wasnt enough you kno? so i played a peavey vypyr at guitar center and OMG beast as fuck!! im actually getting the peavey vypyr 30w amp head with the peavey 112 cab. get the peavey vypyr!!
if your wanting hard rock and loud soundings then forget about line 6 or peavey series. Marshall or Vox are probly what you should get. If you didnt read the labels on line 6 and peavey.......it says modeling amp......it doesnt have a true sound to they are only really in my opinon for effects and just to sound like another amp...dont get me wrong line 6 spiders and peavey vypers are good amps but for the original good hard rock sound you should get marshall or vox

@fybroptickilr went to guitar center & tried out the vox 50 watt valvetronix, sounded bizarre, i wasn't too keen on the way the settings were, it has several effects, but it cant hold more than 2 effects at once, like reverb & flanger on at the same time, the sound wasn't bad, but i like line 6 better, more of a metal tone, when i checked out the vox website i noticed that the heaviest band that used vox is nickelback, that's defo not a metal brand imo
you could make a case with spider 3 being of less quality as vypyr, but the spider 4 totally smashes that "not enough effects" problem to bits, it's loaded, i tested the spider 4 & im getting the 120 for xmas, anyways, it outclasses the vypyr for now at least until peavey responds
@khushalbhadra here's the issue on Marshall, they have excellent sound that really can't be beat, BUT only in their high, and i mean HIGH priced amps deliver anything remarkable, line 6 and peavey have great sounds that are packed with effects and such, but they are far less pricy, Marshall doesn't even touch effects till you pay 700, the MG's don't provide what he's askin for, they just dont, it's like comparin a jackson to a fender, sure, jacksons r better, but fenders r more practical
Dude, long time no see. It's scott bro, I was just checkin out the Sanpera II pedal reviews and your vid came up. Idk if you already got your new amp but I've had my peavy vypyr 100w for about 7 months and it's a beast. Great tone and it is solid state. If your still serious about recording and Playin live, go with a peavy vypyr 75-100. Peace
you should get a 6505+ 112 they are only $600 and they are extremely high gain or you sould get the Vypr tube series, I like solid state amps but if you wanna get real good heavy loud thick tone get tube so you got my opinion i think solid state amps suck the tone right out of your guitar, for effects get a boss multi effect pedals, I dont use amp effects
Line 6 is terrible, unless you get the Bogner Line 6 because that's just a Bogner amp with a Line 6 pod essentially, but seriously, they both suck, get a better amp, go for an ENGL :)
line 6 is better dude. peavy sucks . need help picking amps i can help i have a 15 watt vyper i hate it. ihave 10 amps and half stack marshal in basement so yeah. im addicted to this. and line 6 4 is amazing
dude an affordable amp that has alittle balls to it would be the peavy 6505 1x12. way better than any of these practice amps... oh ya and if you want effects buy a pedal board or stompbox effects, effects through amps suck period... just in my expierience buy a good amp first and then build on the effects... good luck.
I have a line6 thirty watt. And I have a peavey vypyr thirty watt. Both sound great. Both have a twelve inch speaker. Both are loaded with effects and amp capabilities. Both were $199.00. You just have to go to a music store. Try them out side by side. See which one sounds good to you.
i've got a peavey vypyr (15) and it's awesome, even though i've always heard about the amazing line 6 amps mine is crazy loud (the volume goes up to 13 and i've never dared to take it above about 3. personally i think you should go for the peavey and it also has loads of effects and awesome stuff. if you do go for the peavey, cus it's so loud you could save yourself a bit of money and go the the vypyr 60 cus i think it's still a tube!
ive tried the vypyr 75 and the spider 3 75, and it realy depends on wat ur wanting to play. me personaly the crunch i get with the distortion on on my line 6 is just that much deper then the peavey
I'd say go with the peavy, its got a lot more effects and the distortion is analog, which i think sounds better, in my opinion. I have the 30 watt, and its still loud enough to do gigs with (even though I don't really have any)
peavey amps are so well known for just shitting the bed for no reason...go get a kustom half stack if yer looking to spend low money...or try out the raven 100 watt head and get a kustom 412 speaker cab...u can buy a fucking pedal from line 6 or other company that costs 100 bucks that gives you all those crazy disco effects...hope this helps someone..
dude, all you need to know is peavey kicks ass. it's way better than line 6. I have the peavey vypyr 15 and it's way better than any amp i've ever played. it's kinda personal preference but peavey vypyrs are way more versatile and louder. I play in a deathcore band and my lil 15 watt is enough for the drummer. of course i want a bigger one but it was my first amp. if you know how to use it, not only will you piss off your neighbors but that amp eats babies. get the peavey.
@snazygitrst lol, eats babies. I'm considering the vypyr 100 right now that be alright to play a fair sized gig right? And for just jaming at home would it be too loud?
@MrROFLKNIFE I was looking at that same amp yesterday. It would be fine for a relatively small gig and jamming at home, no such thing as too loud. but once the volume is past 1 it can get louder very fast. but I think you should go to a music store and play on it a little and see if you like the effects cause you can get something just as loud for cheaper, but the vypyr 100 has far better sound quality than anything in it's price range. i'd say get it.
Dude, my friends 75 watt line 6 had to get a hard reset because i turned the power off while he was playing. My peavey 30 watt has never done that to me and ive had it longer.
I just got the VYPYR TUBE 60 BY PEAVEY! Awesome amp!!! 200.00 more and You can get the tube 120. The 60 is crazy mean with the Tubes and effects. Drop the line 6 and go Peavey. My Marshall half stack gets no action since I got this 60 tuber! I might go get the 120 and sell my Marshall 100watt head and 412 cab. I am impressed by the tube/electronics! Go PEAVEY!!!
dude if your looking for power and volume line six spider valve have it all man all the power of a valve amp and all the effects of line six and you already know how it works and how to get the sound you want
hey bro i have a peavy vyper 212 120 tube this is oone of the best amps i have ever owned. I have played the line 6 before and there is no comparison. if u buy one be sure to get the tube version big difference from a solid state amp
peavey i think is better sounding i have played through both and i think the peavey is the better amp the line 6 doesnt have as much control on it and u get a real bassy sound out of it and it can mess with ur sound alot
the peavey is a good modeling amp and is better then the line 6 by a lot but now am thinking of trading it in to get the vox valvetronix which is basically a tube modeling amp
I personally prefer the Peavey Vypyr 75 watt, you can get almost any sound you want out of it and it doesn't sound sterile and digital like the Line 6. Peavey also has the best warranty in the business, I 've owned several different Peavey amps thru the years and I still have an old Peavey Heritage VTX that really sounds wonderful and it's 30 years old. So to me Peavey is the better buy.

TheMetalliholica 11 months ago
I bought the 60 watt my buddy has the 120,and if you are a metal guy u shant be dissapointed, the recto preset is a an justice ringer,im really happy with the sound,it dosnt have that cheap tone thay gets all distorted with volume
TheMetalliholica 11 months ago
Do not listen to the people who have commented before me, ok? -Yesterday i went to my local instrument shop, and they had both the peavey vypyr 75w and the line 6 75w/120w. I tested them both, and the line 6 sounds harsh and has to much tremble to it, if you know what i mean, the sound is like boring, in one way. But then i tested the peavey and i got blown away. I though that since they both were 75 watt the difference between them was small. The peavey has a MUCH "richer" and "warmer sound!..
pkmChris 11 months ago 20
@pkmChris i own it and agree!
dawnofascendacy 10 months ago
@pkmChris More watts =/= better tone. More watts = loudness. I Agree that the sound of Spider isn't that great. It lacks the "presence" of the amp (I don't know about newer Spiders but I have heard that there isn't really much difference in sound between the older and newer Spiders). It doesn't feel right. And It lacks the balls of the real sound. It's kind of dry or flat (I think that's what people call a digital sound). So it lacks the richness and warmth. Dunno bout Vypyr, haven't tried.

..Yeah LINE 6 is for girls. Better get a MARSHALL son.
TubeParticles 1 year ago
Ok so i just got a Line 6 and i love it, but the problem is is that i cant use my distortion pedal with it cuz i keep getting alot of background noise (I cant really describe it, I'll prob post a vid about it). So if ur 1 of those people who likes to use different sounds, which will include different pedals, i would probably recommend not getting a line 6 unless u know how to fix this problem. my friend had a line 6 and just now got a peavey and he LOVES IT!!!!!!!

you don't need a 75 watt, The Peavey Vypyr 30watt would be fine. I have the vypyr 30, and I have my dad complaning to turn it down, while it is on 1. and the master goes to 13. So the 30 is really freakin loud
guitarhero31333 1 year ago
@guitarhero31333 75 is for concerts, it can sound really loud your amp, but if you turn up to 10 it will sound like shit, is the thing. Amps are not suposed to turn to the maximun.

22ndLegionDrummer 1 year ago
you should look at buying something like this and you should be nearly set also it might be expensive but that's just reality search for Marshall jmd100 its a hybrid amp it has great sound has presets what you can customize and u get the picture
koolmoir 1 year ago

Ibanezx123 1 year ago
Just don't get a vypyr 15 watt the speaker is shit and I can't really get many good tones out of it, at first I thought it might be my guitar but I up graded to a dean ml atf3000 and still doesn't sound the best. But from what I hear the 30 is a lot better than the 15.

if your wanting hard rock and loud soundings then forget about line 6 or peavey series.

DimebagsZombie 1 year ago
@fybroptickilr lol, i need to try out a vox then, but i like line 6
DimebagsZombie 1 year ago
you could make a case with spider 3 being of less quality as vypyr, but the spider 4 totally smashes that "not enough effects" problem to bits, it's loaded, i tested the spider 4 & im getting the 120 for xmas, anyways, it outclasses the vypyr for now at least until peavey responds
DimebagsZombie 1 year ago
What about Marshall MG15FX. Are the better than Peavey vypyr 15 and Line 6?
khushalbhadra 1 year ago
@khushalbhadra here's the issue on Marshall, they have excellent sound that really can't be beat, BUT only in their high, and i mean HIGH priced amps deliver anything remarkable, line 6 and peavey have great sounds that are packed with effects and such, but they are far less pricy, Marshall doesn't even touch effects till you pay 700, the MG's don't provide what he's askin for, they just dont, it's like comparin a jackson to a fender, sure, jacksons r better, but fenders r more practical

Idk if you already got your new amp but I've had my peavy vypyr 100w for about 7 months and it's a beast. Great tone and it is solid state. If your still serious about recording and Playin live, go with a peavy vypyr 75-100. Peace

get the vypyr 50.
the vypyr is analog, and the spider is just digital shit.
PsychoSymantic 1 year ago
you should get a 6505+ 112 they are only $600 and they are extremely high gain or you sould get the Vypr tube series, I like solid state amps but if you wanna get real good heavy loud thick tone get tube so you got my opinion i think solid state amps suck the tone right out of your guitar, for effects get a boss multi effect pedals, I dont use amp effects
78LilRedExpress440 1 year ago
Honestly, neither. Just get a nice tube amp with a good clean sound and get some pedals. Solid state sounds good, but not great.

line 6 is better dude. peavy sucks . need help picking amps i can help i have a 15 watt vyper i hate it. ihave 10 amps and half stack marshal in basement so yeah. im addicted to this. and line 6 4 is amazing
MrZerox123 1 year ago
@MrZerox123 Obviously the 15 vypyr won't be as good as a 120 watt line 6 head. The vypyr tube is amazing.
FeralArtist 1 year ago
dude an affordable amp that has alittle balls to it would be the peavy 6505 1x12. way better than any of these practice amps... oh ya and if you want effects buy a pedal board or stompbox effects, effects through amps suck period... just in my expierience buy a good amp first and then build on the effects... good luck.
bianchiniman 1 year ago
I have a line6 thirty watt. And I have a peavey vypyr thirty watt. Both sound great. Both have a twelve inch speaker. Both are loaded with effects and amp capabilities. Both were $199.00. You just have to go to a music store. Try them out side by side. See which one sounds good to you.

dude, all you need to know is peavey kicks ass. it's way better than line 6. I have the peavey vypyr 15 and it's way better than any amp i've ever played. it's kinda personal preference but peavey vypyrs are way more versatile and louder. I play in a deathcore band and my lil 15 watt is enough for the drummer. of course i want a bigger one but it was my first amp. if you know how to use it, not only will you piss off your neighbors but that amp eats babies. get the peavey.
snazygitrst 1 year ago
@snazygitrst lol, eats babies. I'm considering the vypyr 100 right now that be alright to play a fair sized gig right? And for just jaming at home would it be too loud?
MrROFLKNIFE 1 year ago
@MrROFLKNIFE I was looking at that same amp yesterday. It would be fine for a relatively small gig and jamming at home, no such thing as too loud. but once the volume is past 1 it can get louder very fast. but I think you should go to a music store and play on it a little and see if you like the effects cause you can get something just as loud for cheaper, but the vypyr 100 has far better sound quality than anything in it's price range. i'd say get it.
snazygitrst 1 year ago

the peavey is a good modeling amp and is better then the line 6 by a lot but now am thinking of trading it in to get the vox valvetronix which is basically a tube modeling amp
GeetarBeast401 1 year ago
I personally prefer the Peavey Vypyr 75 watt, you can get almost any sound you want out of it and it doesn't sound sterile and digital like the Line 6. Peavey also has the best warranty in the business, I 've owned several different Peavey amps thru the years and I still have an old Peavey Heritage VTX that really sounds wonderful and it's 30 years old. So to me Peavey is the better buy.
