en mexico la mayoria de la gente no escucha jazz mmmm lastima de k se pierdan esta grandiosa musica y en especial del gran musico k puedo escuchar en este video felicidades!
3 years, but 25 years on jazz guitar, which helps a huge amount, I couldn't do this without that listening, playing and practicing experience..... Thanks for the kind words
Great introspective sound, Matthew. This is one of the most beautiful ballads and also one of the saddest. Angel Eyes, This Masquerade, and Willow Weep For Me seem to have that same aura.
I thought I'd get back into playing now the summer farmwork is over, but Dad passed away and I'm settling his affairs. Hopefully, later.
Love your music and glad to see you're having fun playing live. You deserve to be heard.
It is good to hear you are OK, I was getting worried, but I know you have a big job to do with all that land. I am glad you like this one, I think my favourite tune. I like Willow too, but I struggle to make it interesting, so that tune rarely gets played. It would be nice to do a duet on something, maybe just send me an mp3 of something interesting when you are ready....
Love your treatment of this classic ballad - you're caressing the melody & gently strokin' the changes, with colorful bursts of creative energy (@ around 2:33, por ejemplo).
I had always thought that the title was a bit on the presumptuous side, 'til I heard ALL of the lyrics - 'bout 15 yrs ago - & was able to see the full beauty of a wonderfully tender ballad.
Thanks, Matthew, for both the caressin' & the burstin'!!! Oh, and the MUSIC, too!
Hi Matthew! I have this CD "Jazz for a Rainy Day" and your ballad playing expresses this melancholy mood brilliantly! And the visual quality of this video matches this atmosphere, too (...for a grainy day). Thank you again!
Your ballad playing is so inspiring - I mean - I've just caught myself totally admiring your variating use of vibrato... sometimes so subtle - and your use of very soft playing - I like it very much! And the contrasting use of colour vs b&w background - very original! :) Thanks again for sharing one of your marvellous videos:)
Thanks a lot C4, I love ballads, I would play them all day if I could get away with it......The vibrato comes from trying to sound a little like Art Pepper on alto, I like it when it sounds like someone drags a finger on a turntable, a very slow and wide almost keening sound. I glad you like the video too, I like to keep em interesting, this one is "color TV" from apple's imovie, supposed to look like a 70's colour tv!
Thanks Jim, much appreciated. I was born with some natural talent for music, that is true....as a kid I played all kinds of instruments from the french horn to the flute and sang in a lot of choirs.....it all helps. I have to thank my parents for that.

From the description I understand you've only been playing the sax for 3 years? Pretty impressive.
