Quick question: Are you learning the B section as well or only the A section. I only ask because I've learned both and it's really handy especially when you add some arpegiation (sp?) into it. Also, I recommend using a flip camera when putting these on youtube. This is good for an audition, but I'd like to hear you do the whole thing.
@jpg0901 I gave up on the Messiah. I had half learned the arias years ago but I never really prepared them. This year I decided to make a serious effort. But I don't like the result. I am lucky enough to be able to sing most of the repertoire that interests me. I wish I could sing the runs faster. I practiced a lot but it never got better.
I don't know if this is a score marking, but whenever I've heard the start of the recitative, it's done piano...but you opted for a forte. You seem like a very conscientious musician - you always know what you're talking about - so I was wondering what led you to decide not to follow the majority example.
Thanks,
A young baritone (so who knows what I'll be singing in five or ten years =D)
@Taenyr I only wish I were the conscienious muscian you think I am. I know that the opening should be piano but as I said, I was struggling with recording process. The peice has a lot of dynamic range. I kept overblowing the mic.
This isn't a performance. It's an audition. In performance I would sing more appogiaturas. But in an audition you risk offending the muscical sensibilities of the conductor. Its better to do it straight.
@Agorante Ah, okay, thank you! I'll keep that in mind for my auditions. As for conscientious musicianship, you've displayed it again and again, especially with your knowledge of musical history (I mean, everything from tuning rations to the much-debated "Stanley method"...)
