Don't think of the economy as a mystical financial machine. I think a lot of people get caught up in it that way, and it's easy to get bored and/or confused by economic discussion when you think of it like that. Economics is really a study in psychology, because it documents how people most naturally think and react in various trading and bartering situations. Can you work for free, lend more than you have or to a deadbeat? Now extend this to a national scale. Try to see it that way.

I'm a visual person--as a citizen, I simply don't understand all the moving parts, and how my vote in any election affects our policy. I don't know what to look for in a candidate.
