  • I feel so sorry for the old lady. She's trying her best...

  • Omg, how did the negroes sneak into the university ...

  • hahaha, "our voices can be so loud that they cannot be heard!"

Comeon man, it wasn't intended to offend anybody, and even if it did, offending people isn't a crime. think about it.

  • I feel a lifetime movie coming on...

watch...a few years from now, we'll see commercials for the new lifetime movie "Based on a true story that happened in 2010 at UC San Diego...Racism has emerged." Idk...lol...

  • so what do these people want? freakn body guards?? come one!

  • these people are overreacting. if asians or other minorities were targeted this wouldn't even be on news. but NOOOOOOO this was crime against jews and blacks, as if they don't do anything racist crap on their daily basis.

  • James 707. That is a keen observation about Asian American students. And it is a sad commentary on those who don't realize that there is a historical context to the spoils they enjoy as UCSD students.

  • James 707 you are soooo on point. you should run for prez!!!

  • All of these silly people are worked up because they thought White "racists" were responsible. Nothing more or less than ANOTHER hate hoax and these whiny jokers are FOOLS. "Racism": the most over-worked word in the language.

  • if i can't label it "racism" then i will settle for "wildly offensive actions". The "little compton party" is very offensive not because dressing up like thugs and baby-mamas isn't funny, rather its offensiveness is heightened by the THE CONTEXT of the event. some kids represent blacks in poor characterization= funny. kids represent black in poor characterization + during black history month + at a campus where there arent many blacks= FEELS ALOT LIKE RACISM (even if it isn't mean that way)

  • How come nobody ever complains about the thousands of BITCHS AND HOES or PIMPS and HOES parties going on across the country? Hmmmm. OH THATS RIGHT! BECAUSE IT DISCRIMINATES MAINLY AGAINST WOMEN AND THATS STILL OK. Fucking ridiculous

  • i complain about it. i complained when ppl were outraged at michael vicks treatment of animals when at the same time most rich NFL players treat some women (skeet-skeets/groupies) worse than animals.

i am still a little unclear as to what about my comment prompted you to bring this up though

  • Like how she played to the camera walking up from the back

  • So those of you who think that this occurrence was not a big deal, I ask you to go find out what has happened since this event. In other words, do some research. Then you will see the serious and horrendous consequences of ignoring or overlooking a supposed "simple expression of free speech." This act of minstrelsy has lead to even more disgusting and outright racist behavior that should not be tolerated ANYWHERE.

  • If minorities had the same privilege that white people have of not representing for their whole race and creating or perpetuating stereotypes, then this wouldn't even be an issue. Black people wouldn't care that this themed party happened if they had that same privilege. But they don't and even the educated Blacks are affected by these stereotypes. They are still less likely to get promoted or get the job over someone equally or less qualified.

  • Why is this a big issue? Because it was a student organization involved representing the school. The fact that it was thrown by a Black man exploiting stereotypes for personal gain is beyond the point.

White trailer trash parties don't damage the image of white people because they have the privilege of not representing for their whole race with their actions. Minorities don't have that privilege. Just ask Arab Americans after 9/11. They had the stereotype of being terrorists overnight.

  • As an Asian American I'm disappointed that I didn't see more than one Asian face in that crowd and they make up 45% of the UC system.

They take for granted the civil rights they have at the cost of black americans getting sprayed with water hoses and sugar poured over their heads during the sixties. Most Asian students are first or second generation so their parents and themselves arrived after the sixties. They don't understand the outcry.

  • Thank you for your comments, James. It is the most sensible thing I have heard in this thread.

Sometimes I wonder why students of color aren't banding together in these issues. However, I am guilty of the same thing because I (a black student) don't get upset at the anti-semetic demonstrations at UCI as much as I should have

  • Thanks. I'm just trying to shed light on the plight of minorities and stereotyping that people seem to no notice.

As far as not getting upset about anti-semitic demonstrations, I could understand why a minority of color wouldn' t feel as strong. As much as they get hated on, they have the skin color that gives them immunity from the prejudice and discrimination that people of color receive. Again, privilege. Who is seen as more of a threat in a white community? A Jew or a person of color?

  • @James707 "Privilege"? Are you fucking with me because you think its funny or do you really think we have "Privilege"? Here's a "privilege" for you, go to the country of your ancestors & when you do, make sure to note how it feels like for me, because my people are still fighting for such a right!!! Also, not all Jews are Ashkenazi, so don't group all of us together you ass! Are all Asians Japanese? No, I didn't think so! Talk about "stereotyping that people seem to no[t notice". Unbelievable!

  • everyone at UCSD IS SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who are these weak-minded fools that think the world will tiptoe around so as not to offend them? Every "person of color" (minus Asians) should take a good, hard look in the mirror. Are you at UCSD because of your own merit or because of affirmative action?

  • This is absolutely ridiculous!!! Did anyone ever think that the reason why blacks make up 1.8% is simply because the black community has not created qualified applicants. Not because the UC system is intrinsically flawed.

  • @genericvideo1 did anyone ever think that this world is full of a bunch of elitists and racist swhom control who should be admitted to public institutions like as UCSD and the UC system as a whole....?

  • @genericvideo1 Perhaps. Perhaps it's not just up to the black community to "create" applicants for higher education. Perhaps that's a problem of the white community. Perhaps, even, that's what the white community has been working toward all along -- silencing in all ways possible the black and brown and yellow and red peoples of this stolen country.

  • wow... totally missed the point I see... Sad

  • nabobo leaving your comments obviously showa that don't understand or even care to understand the real pain these studeents are going through.. So before you start leaving these comments that simply give those racist students an excuse for what they did Just know your ignorance is not welcome or appreciated. If you have never been dicriminated against then you cannot even come close to relate to what they are going through..

  • So the racist students shown in the video are about to get punished?

  • the girl at 1:10 is trying to act like she is offended and really hurt by this , almost like she is living back in the 50's and 60's speaking on civil rights. Quit the drama acting bitch , this is realty and it was a joke. go worry about action for those that commit crimes and murders rather than some people who throw a party that offended you.

    dayam liberals are morons

  • also: the constitution protects free speech, not HATE speech. besides, a racist-themed party should be prohibited by the school's anti-discriminator speech policies.

if the party was off campus, the admin can still do more than chant. they can punish the students for promoting the party on campus (there were flyers), give students of color the support they need, and provide real anti-racist education to its student body to create an environment where people dont pull this kind of ignorant shit.

  • The constitution does protect hate speech. I don't want to live in a world where some beauracrat can decide what I am allowed to say, or express, or think. That is the beginning of totalitarianism.

Speak up! The solution to hate speech is more speech, not less. Show the people who threw this party to be the ignorant fools that they are. Don't expect the campus to fight your battles for you. So protest, yes. And feel free to tell me im an idiot. But dont censor me.

  • its great to say you won't tolerate racism, but chants mean nothing without actions to back them up.

i love how the administration linked this vid from their bs public relations website that makes it look like they're doing something about this, saying "check out the chancellor's impassioned chanting" without irony, even though the clip had clearly been posted by students who were fed up with the administration's empty words.

  • "Freedom of Speech" is meant to be used to criticize government/corporations/etc... in public, to be able to tell the truth and share ideas.

This is yet another example of ignorant white Amerikkkans using their "freedoms" to demean those around them.

  • Worse yet when their exercising of their freedoms impinges on the freedoms of others. There is more than sufficient research to show that the effect that these messages are damaging (see "Stereotype Threat").

  • I'm a UCSD student and this is getting blown way out of proportion.

The party theme is retarded, but it is freedom of speech. The purpose of the party was not intimidation, but rather using stereotypes and this, unpleasant as it is, is protected speech.

All this yelling by the administration about how disgusting racism is is pointless: normal people already know that racism is ridiculous and racist scum will not be converted. Just stop talking about "black community"--we are all one student body

  • the disrespect UCSD's black american community has shown to the administrators during this meeting was very sad they chose to attack individuals who are trying to help them simply because UCSD has recognized a ghetto themed party as racism

  • Punctuation and grammar, please.

You cannot be taken seriously if you do not know the language and fail to communicate.

  • I'm sure those same students didn't feel they were being disrespectful. But if you asked them how often they felt disrespected I am willing to bet your head would spin.

I don't get the impression the administrators felt disrespected, scared yes, but not disrespected. I commend them for willing to meet with the BSU.

  • ya i thought that as well... interrupting the chancellors speech and shouting at them for several minutes straight... they just want to help and have a happy time . WHY CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG!!!?

  • There will be no action, because the freedom of speech and expression covers politically-incorrect things as well. As bad as the party may be, it wasn't illegal.

  • No one is asking for anyone to be arrested -- the whole "the party wasn't illegal" is a red herring. Freedom of speech doesn't equal freedom from responsibility.

  • No, it's not a red herring. And no, I didn't say anything about people being arrested.

The party was an expression. Racist as it may be, it's protected under the Constitution. They want the school to take "real actions" but the school can't punish them just because it doesn't like the message they're sending.

What do you mean by freedom from responsibility. What do you think they should be responsible for?

  • Haha, the lady saying "racism is NOT in our community" sounds FUNNY! Of course, we all know, that it IS in our community; she is just denying it.

  • true. I wonder how many times, she thinks about her white privilege?

  • Agreed. The fact that no one joined her is very telling of the students' beliefs. This crowd of predominantly non-white students knows that this has happened, continues to happen, and will continue to happen.

It is insufficient to say "not in our community." It is necessary to say "when it happens this is what we will do." And those actions MUST address the underlying issues regarding access, privilege, oppression, and historical trauma.
