The Rippingtons ROCK! They have had many well-known instrumentalists with solo careers as their members, including Dave Koz and Kenny G, to name a couple. Very much a good band!!
I remember meeting my first wife at a rippingtons concert, we both heard them for the first time on the Weather Channel and loved them ever since. Well my first wife passed on from a tragic auto accident, but when I listen to the smooth sounds of the Rippingtons it reminds me of the good times that I used to have with her.
Also how can Kenny G possibly say bad things about these guys? They are better than he ever was.Jealousy I think.
Jeff Kashiwa is the sax/woodwind player. You'll catch him both on live physical instruments, as well as an electronic one...called the E-Wii, or something along those lines.
this song NEVER gets old....the band is just sweet!!! the bass player is so smooth and his runs/licks are perfectly placed; the sax is so sick, sound is so profound and rich; the electric guitar is straight legit...his effects on his stick are freakin awesome
Personally, I like their earlier stuff much better> If you ever get a chance, pick up their "Best Of" album from 1987 or even "Topaz" with Russ Freeman from 1999. To me, they were in a "better place" musically. Even though they still maintain the horns signature sound, there's something missing from their earlier sets.
I listned to these guys scince I was 6 years old and I still love their music 8 years later. The Rippingtons are one of the most popular bands in Jazz history!!!!
this is why i like his older stuff. from 1985-1990, he was on point. his new radio-friendly albums aren't as good as tracks like these and "moonlighting"...
The first time I saw the was in 1998 and the 2nd time was in 2000, both times in Albuquerque NM. The 98 show was an indoor show and the 2000 show was at an outdoor venue. Both were awesome. Great band, awesome musicians. Keep an eye on their website. They post their tour dates.
A classic from the Ripps. Russ and the Ripps are so cool. Who stays alive in the Music Biz for TWO DECADES?!? Only Russ and the Ripps can do it with outstanding shine!!
Great melody, great dynamics, what's not to love?

I saw them years ago in Long Beach CA, got Freeman's autograph and everything. Was to young then to realize how amazing they are!
