Frankly, I think it's slightly ungrateful that you are so begrudging of your university eduction, as there are so many teenagers who would give their right arm to find a place at a uni, but cannot due to lack of funds, as fees are so expensive in America.
I think you should try to consider how lucky you are to be receiving an education that will allow you to apply to good jobs, and earn more money than those who have not been so fortunate.
I don't think Lauren is being ungrateful about college. She has a level head and I'm sure she understands how fortunate she is. I think the issue she has with college (Lauren, feel free to contradict me!) is that she is far away from her home, family and closest friends. Don't be so quick to judge, my friend, as these videos can never express everything one is feeling.
The classes are fantastic and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to take them. They're why I haven't dropped out.
But being here with these terrible people who make me feel worthless and untalented and invisible every single day, when all I ever do is sit in my room by myself because I have no friends, kind of makes me miserable and depressed all the time. second, your ben folds cover got me INTO ben folds period. i liked a couple of ben folds and ben folds five songs (someone explain the diff please?) and so now im dling his cds.
AND third... i think all the 5AG should make videos about their lives ambitions... like what are you going to school for, etc? because i don't know. at least it gives you something to talk about.
Ben Folds Five was his original band. They broke up, he went solo, now he plays as Ben Folds, usually with a(n awesome) backing band and occasionally an orchestra.
What do you study? Sorry, I don't miss college so I can't offer any support for you there. Although, I did always think it was fun to decorate my new rooms and buy all of my back to school stuff. Hopefully, things get happier soon. :)
two years to go, you can totally do it.. I graduated last semester and I have four more years of grad school. just keep going, getting your degree is really rewarding, and totally worth it.
Northern Lights (the British name for Golden Compass) is probably the weakest of the three, in that a lot of the really cool concepts in the series are later on. Don't see the film. It doesn't do it justice in anyway.
HDM is really good, you should continue to like it. I remember being gutted when I finished the second and discovering the third one wasn't coming out for a half a year. That was like...seven (eight?) years ago now though, so you'll be fine. :P
I read the series this year (mostly I bought the books to fill price quotas for free shipping on Amazon while I got the Twilight books). I wasn't really that impressed. The only thing that Pullman really did was make me love Lyra and want to read the rest of the books to find out what happened to her.
As a Christ follower, I hate it when statements like this are made. First, a book can't be against the church. That's just silly. And second, the entire premise of the book is about a bunch of people trying to take down a renegade angel who has taken over the church and basically turned it into an evil cult. Nothing done in the name of the church in that set of books is anything even remotely like Christianity and it just shows Christians to be ignorant of our own faith if we say otherwise.
What contradictions? I said that (1) books can't be against the church, and (2) nothing in this book contradicts the teachings of Christ. I'm for books of all shapes and sizes, messages and beliefs and I'm against censorship or refusing to read something based on false facts. So basically, I'm pro both Christ and The Golden Compass.
You're going to really like that series. The Subtle Knife was my favorite. 2 more years isn't so bad. College just flies by, trust me :-) What are you majoring in?
I'm jealous, our suites used to have stoves but they took 'em out cuz stupid ppl kept setting the building on fire, so we got "community floor kitchens instead" although we still get a kitchen area in the rooms :)
Hey Lauren, I'm sorry for the downer comment. I didn't mean for it to be that way, honest. I guess it's just one of those things- to say or not to say. HDM just truly befuddled me. Because, I - perhaps like you- had heard so many great things about the series, I was genuinely excited to read them (hungry for something with meat after HP and LotR), and in the early going I was not disappointed: Daemons are an awesome concept, and Lyra is adorable... and all I want to say won't fit here...
thats a huge dorm room, mine was small as hell. Try not to feel too bad about being back in school, trust me, the minute your out and in the workforce, you will be wanting tooth and nail to go back, you have two years left? They will go buy quick, enjoy it while you can. Take care

second, your ben folds cover got me INTO ben folds period. i liked a couple of ben folds and ben folds five songs (someone explain the diff please?) and so now im dling his cds.
AND third... i think all the 5AG should make videos about their lives ambitions... like what are you going to school for, etc? because i don't know. at least it gives you something to talk about.

Ben Folds Five was his original band. They broke up, he went solo, now he plays as Ben Folds, usually with a(n awesome) backing band and occasionally an orchestra.

Northern Lights (the British name for Golden Compass) is probably the weakest of the three, in that a lot of the really cool concepts in the series are later on. Don't see the film. It doesn't do it justice in anyway.

HDM is really good, you should continue to like it. I remember being gutted when I finished the second and discovering the third one wasn't coming out for a half a year. That was like...seven (eight?) years ago now though, so you'll be fine. :P

I read the series this year (mostly I bought the books to fill price quotas for free shipping on Amazon while I got the Twilight books). I wasn't really that impressed. The only thing that Pullman really did was make me love Lyra and want to read the rest of the books to find out what happened to her.

As a Christ follower, I hate it when statements like this are made. First, a book can't be against the church. That's just silly. And second, the entire premise of the book is about a bunch of people trying to take down a renegade angel who has taken over the church and basically turned it into an evil cult. Nothing done in the name of the church in that set of books is anything even remotely like Christianity and it just shows Christians to be ignorant of our own faith if we say otherwise.

What contradictions? I said that (1) books can't be against the church, and (2) nothing in this book contradicts the teachings of Christ. I'm for books of all shapes and sizes, messages and beliefs and I'm against censorship or refusing to read something based on false facts. So basically, I'm pro both Christ and The Golden Compass.

The Golden Compass starts strong, but loses it's narrative power about 3/4 the way through and ends, I think, incoherently.
The Subtle Knife is poor from the very start. I hardly made it through. I simply found the story to be far-fetched (even by Fantasy standards).
The Amber Spyglass does not in any way redeem the series. It degenerated into a morass of plotholes and unfortunate attempts to fill them.

Hey Lauren, I'm sorry for the downer comment. I didn't mean for it to be that way, honest. I guess it's just one of those things- to say or not to say. HDM just truly befuddled me. Because, I - perhaps like you- had heard so many great things about the series, I was genuinely excited to read them (hungry for something with meat after HP and LotR), and in the early going I was not disappointed: Daemons are an awesome concept, and Lyra is adorable... and all I want to say won't fit here...

thats a huge dorm room, mine was small as hell. Try not to feel too bad about being back in school, trust me, the minute your out and in the workforce, you will be wanting tooth and nail to go back, you have two years left? They will go buy quick, enjoy it while you can. Take care
