Was it definitely the sprag? Was the spring or something else visibly broken or did it look blue from heat? Mine is making the exact same sound on my 1050 right now.
Did you just replace it and it was fine after that? Id really appreciate knowing this, thanks a lot.
Yup--infamous problem with this triumph 900 motor. If you battery gets drained dont bother trying to start it. Sprag clutch will break. This video was obviously taken prior to the repair. I pulled/installed the motor myself and still had to pay triumph 1000 for labor to break the case. A few years prior the engines had a cover where you could access the sprag, however not this one...

if your battery wasn't so fuct, i doubt yopu would have had the problem in the first place
