  • That's my amp! Pretty slim pickin's on youtube for this great amp! Big enough to not hear the boxiness that you get from smaller amps, notch filter, nice chorus, excellent reverb, and great with archtop jazz.

I guess I should upload a video using my old jazz guitars sometime. I hear a little buzz when I up the bass, like the speaker is buzzing in vibration, (my amp). Don't know if that's age, or a limitation of this amp.

  • Hey, me again.....

I just watched this video again, and it reminded me of something. For a clean arpeggio intro (and sometimes for reggae style "chuck" upstrokes) I used to take my PG58 (cheaper version of SM58) and face it toward the floor, and tilt my cabinet forward as well, so the speaker was projecting at the floor where the mic was pointed, and I see you have hardwood or pine floor panels, so you should definitely give this a try. Just move the mic 2 feet back and aim it 45 degrees down.

  • @punkeratheart haha, i have maple floors (had). I moved locations so im stuck with rug unless i actually go out and buy a few pieces of hardwood. it sounds like something i would really wanna try. you have any sound samples?

  • @MetalObsessed1 I could send you some mp3s of my stuff if you pm me an email account that can take an attachment the size of an mp3 file. One particular song comes to mind where I did this, the intro and "out-tro" were both done this way, volume slowly fading in at the beginning and fading out at the end. I actually used my bass amp for it, a peavey tko 115. It came out pretty good.

  • @punkeratheart yes.

    email me at aurorasmile@live.com

Im really looking forward to hearing the tracks dude.

    bass amp? wow.

now im really curious to how your tracks sound.

  • I sing, both cleans and screams, I don't much have a studio, just my bedroom at home, with my computer and some area blanketed off and padded for a makeshift studio. I am looking for a good mic under 70 bucks, how does this one perform?

  • @nfarnham2008 well if your recording vocals i would most likely recommend a condenser mic and if your doing screaming compress the hell out of it. they run anywhere from $40 to the upper thousands. lol

and for guitar cabs and snares for under 70 i found this mic that sound competes to the 58 and 57 and its called the Digital Reference DRI100.

  • @MetalObsessed1 The Digital Reference Mic, is that a Condensor mic? Also I have heard that condensor mics need Phantom power, and usually are not direct into your comp, as they need to be plugged in through an EQ or mixer?

  • @nfarnham2008 the digital reference mic is a dynamic mic so no phantom power.

yeah..thats the case with condenser mics. it's well worth it tho.

but really if you get a good pop filter, the Digital Reference mic will do it all. and if you wanna spend the money and get a more warmer open sound, get a SM57 or 58.

  • @MetalObsessed1 Yeah I should be able to push the budget to about 120, my paycheck tomm will be good

  • @nfarnham2008 alright. lol

    well goodluck buddy! =]

  • @MetalObsessed1 Yeah, there's actually a couple little ecrater sellers in china that take that mic and alter it to look like a 57, and sell it as a fake 57. If they get the cosmetics right, it's a damn convincing counterfeit, just a little crispier in the top end if you know your mics.

  • @punkeratheart haha..the china made 57's (the fake ones) lack that smooth mid also. i bought one of some music stand for $40.

  • @MetalObsessed1 Could someone just take the grille off and put an external pop filter in front of it??

  • @DaftKiLA500 the grill in some cases doesn't make much difference (Depends on the amp)

I have friends who take take the grill off their amps when they hit the studio. It's all really about experimenting. i dont think a pop filter would make much of a difference.

  • what all effects did you use on the guitar after you recorded?

  • @TYCOONMJO Just EQ'd and compressed with garage band=] Pretty easy.

  • The SM 57 and SM 58 are identical mics.. same electronics and diaphragm, the difference is exactly what you, the ball capsule on 58 and the flat capsule on the 57. No you CAN'T interchange (I tried years ago). With a 57 you can get your sound source closer to the mic's diaphragm, where the ball capsule on the 58 gives you just that little bit of extra distance that will change the sound. With the 57, you get "proximity" effect.. like compression and is why you see it on snare drums and amps

  • wow! didn't know the sm58 works this well on guitar amps! good one!

  • is the sm57 better or the sm58?

  • well the SM58 is a vocal microphone made for live performances. The SM57 is a Studio Microphone usually meant for micing Guitar cabinets and snares. But honestly the only difference i noticed between the 2 is that the SM57 is alot more brighter. Thats why it's good for guitar and drums. but both work grate!

  • thanks for your fast answer

  • @MetalObsessed1 ...wrong ^^

    The 57&58 sound the same.

The only difference between them is:

    - the name (of course) :D

    - the 58 has a pop-filter (whats that thing called?. sry. i´m german)

But there are no sound-differences at all ^^

  • @WirSindRocker your german?!?

    nice! =]

haha..yeah i came to that conclusion not too long ago too.

if you take out the pop-filter cap on the 58 and mic a cab it sounds the same as the 57.

    where from germany you from?

  • @MetalObsessed1 Yes ^^

58 without popfilter cap = 57 so to speak :)

I´m from Brandeburg, born in the so called "Sängerstadt" (Singer-Town)

  • @MetalObsessed1 Actually, the capsule is exactly the same, the 57 &58 just have different chassis and grilles, and the 58 has the pop-filter. Electronically, magnetically, and electromechanically, they are the exact same mic.

  • well the main 12 inch speaker usually gets what the other 2 speakers get only a little louder, but usually the 12 inch gets the best gain, mid, high and it has a little more bass to it then the 2 small ones. if you like alot of detail, i would mic the 12 inch and one of the small speakers but ether way still sounds grate.

  • Hello,

Did you find any problem mic ing this amp because of the multiple speakers. Did you loose high and mids. Do you have any suggestions?
