the hadith does say the ages 6 and 9. but i won't try to defend hadiths. i don't believe they came from God. it would not surprise me to see corruption and outward pedophilia in something man made. I love how muslims say "the rights differentiate when you get older" but really, it takes common sense to see that islam degrades women like a cattle. The Quran says it all. @nanditeplus But the Quran allows it. Whether hitting women with toothbrush or small stick, its a form of physical and emotional abuse. Of course there are others who take advantage and do more damage than whats stated in the Quran, however form of disciplinary abuse is present. Women shouldn't be abused or disciplined. His father even went as far to tell him that he could marry me for his love but he had to marry this other girl for family and respect.. Our children will understand this kind of thing is wrong. @proudfemale there is a difference between what people should do and what they actually do. my original comment on this video states that the atrocities this woman faced is not Islam, it's man's political and social distortions and oppression of women that's really the problem. no religion really wants bad things, it's the governments that claim they are religious that are bad. i stand by that. if a woman cannot choose her husband, it's against what the Prophet said.

@proudfemalechild abuse and wife beating goes on in the west just as much. we pretend to care about it through the legal system, but we propogate those ideas openly through social politics. i don't think it's fair to single out things going on in other places. and i'm not trying to be "dirty" or "dishonest," so i apologize if it came across that way to you. i'd love to see real life solutions to solving the oppresion us women face all over, but talking down about my religion won't unify us.

@PROFESSOR23MAEHEMM23 good question. i have tried to find out, but the only sources i find are outside of the Quran (i.e. hadith), which I personally do not put much credit in, given the history behind these sources. I haven't found anything in the Quran to say that for sure yet, but I will keep looking. I do not pretend to be a scholar, I am looking for answers just like everyone else and I'm always open to new info. salaam

"Men are managers of the affairs of women because Allah has made the one superior to the other."

@Victorvoyage Yes you are right. Islam devotes to domination and humiliation towards women. I love how muslims say "the rights differentiate when you get older" but really, it takes common sense to see that islam degrades women like a cattle. The Quran says it all. More and more women are trying to or leave islam because they realize in the end how they are degraded.

@Victorvoyage I agree, but I think, however, when reading the Quran it is important to remember that there are many translations which should be questioned first. Yours says "superior to the other" while another I read says "the bread winner" for instance. That is why Muslims say it should be read in Arabic only.

It is sad that someone would use God as an excuse to hurt you. Nothing should be forced on anyone, like Baqarah talks about a veil that only God can remove. But, if someone chooses Islam on their own, as I did, it can be a positive experience and if someone wants to leave Islam, I wish them peace, it is their right also

@sabdow Not all muslims should be burned or spat. There are good muslims out there who are just misguided because it was something that they had to live with; or just simply they were born muslim. If one thinks rationally, islam is man made religion who wanted to create his own rule. For example, beating women, prophet marrying a child as young as 6 or 9 (you werent allowed to adopt a child), and many more horrific act.

@nanditeplus But the Quran allows it. Whether hitting women with toothbrush or small stick, its a form of physical and emotional abuse. Of course there are others who take advantage and do more damage than whats stated in the Quran, however form of disciplinary abuse is present. Women shouldn't be abused or disciplined. We are not children or dogs, when women are grown, there are no difference between men other than physical strength. So would god allow that to be misused?

@SuperChristina1982 here is one translation of a relevant verse: 4:34 ... As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly).
i think that every woman should have the right to choose her own life for herself, which includes the right to choose her husband and leave him if she wishes as well. I wouldn't want anyone to stay with a man that abuses them in any way.

Allah does give us power to be independent.We can care for our families, start businesses, hold political power, etc.But, personally, i trust the Qur'an.It never said I couldn't hit him back.It never said I can't leave him. But, if I'm acting in such a way as to disturb the whole family, or make life uneccessarily difficult for, and he acts according to the Qu'ran(not Sharia), he is right. but maybe he needs a smack too!

@SuperChristina1982 I definitely understand the point you're making. the only thing i can say, really, is that based on my experience converting to Islam, I've asked these type of questions as a skeptic and the answers I've personally found have been very liberating for me. I won't try to convince people too much, I think an individual would need to personally reflect and go searching for answers, and then only the answers specifically meant for them will manifest anyway.

@nanditeplus What are you talking about? Did you know that women are allowed to be beaten in last resort? Why should women be beaten? That is degrading and humiliating for women. Also, quran states that men are the managers of women so we have to listen to men. Islam degrades women overall. Furthermore, I believe prophet Muhammad married a 6 or 9 yrs old child? How sick is that? Adoption was not allowed because obviously certain men wanted to have their sick mind in power. Its horrible!

No true Muslim will support pedophilia. culturally, that would be the way to care for an orphan. like marrying your brother's widowed wife was at some point a way of ensuring her safety. But, like I said, this is just what i see personally and I do not wish to force the idea on anyone else. If any woman feels like she is in physical danger, she should take action. But not everyone feels like they are.
